Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has tapped yet another lobbyist to play a crucial role in his campaign. Frank Donatelli, who is currently a lobbyist at McGuire Woods, will take a leave from his lobbying job to “serve as the new deputy chairman of the RNC” as well as “the chief liaison between the committee and the campaign.” Donatelli joins a long list of seasoned lobbyists on the McCain campaign, including chief political adviser Charlie Black, campaign manager Rick Davis, and senior advisers Steve Schmidt and Mark McKinnon.
UPDATE: Earlier this week, McCain hired “leading GOP lobbyist” John Green to coordinate his “message and travel schedule with congressional Republicans.”

Wow, this guy is just filthy with lobbyists, isn’t he?
March 7th, 2008 at 9:56 amJust another blowjob.
March 7th, 2008 at 9:57 amNice try, but Frank Donatelli was not hired by McCain as TP falsely reports. As the links state, he was hired by the RNC and will served as the RNC’s liaison between the RNC and the campaign.

You may have gotten TP on a technicality, but that doesn’t distract from the main point — that McCain is “just filthy with lobbyists”, as Fritz so aptly pointed out.

I think someone’s in need of a semantics lesson. McCain could have chosen Donatelli without actually “hiring” him, by letting it be known at RNC headquarters that McCain wanted him as liason.

Nice try back at you. TP doesn’t say mccain hired donna, it says he is the liason on the campaign. He’s on Mccain’s campaign but is in essennce his handler. And you are a stooge. One would think that an investigator for the FTC would have better reading skills…

I have seen a fair amount of taking good_golly to task regarding whether or not his 16 year old son should enlist in the military — not only on this thread, but others as well.
Granted, good_golly is a conservative and supports the war, and I know it tends to rankle those of us who don’t support the war when rah-rah-war people have no personal stake in it.
But can I just say something in defense of this kid? As long as we don’t have a draft, and participation in the military is voluntary, he should make up his own mind about how he wants to serve his country — or even if. No matter what political ideology his parents have. This kid is a person, not cannon fodder with no mind of his own.
Let’s quit trying to sacrifice this kid on the altar of GG-bashing. It just makes us look ugly. A better approach might be to ask good_golly if he would be so supportive of Bush and Cheney’s war if his own child was on the front lines. Asking him if he thinks the cause is worth the life of his son is a fair question. Demanding he send his son into battle is over the top.
Furthermore, this is all off-topic. Is anybody here concerned that McCain is surrounded by people who have made careers out of representing special interests with money?
March 7th, 2008 at 11:17 amFurthermore, this is all off-topic.

I agree that GG has gone off-topic many times. However, in this thread it was my buddies Uncle Ho, Bobwurst, and hellinabucket who started this and ran with it. I was just giving a gentle loving admonishment to them.
March 7th, 2008 at 11:34 ammissmolly, I agree the child shouldn’t be pushed one way or another. My stance is this. Those who stand behind this president and believe in this “War on Terror” should actively encourage all they can to join the fight. The term “War” is thrown around too lightly. It’s death, dismemberment and chaos. It should never be taken lightly. Nor should it be left for “others” to fight.
The greatest generation that ever lived in this country was swept into the greatest conflict this world had seen up to that time. National sacrifice and a clear purpose drove them to great heights while bearing the burden of the great losses. This round of fearmonger has all the rhetoric of a great struggle, but none of the sacrifice and clear purpose.
I truly wish no ill will on gg’s child or any other child. I wish the enormity of the problems that have surfaced due to the conflict in Iraq and our involvement be addressed.
I wish all those, who so still stubornly, hold onto the notion that Iraq was a threat to us to admit that they weren’t and that our rush to attack has caused more problems, more suffering and more bitter feelings than would have happened if we didn’t follow this administration.
March 7th, 2008 at 11:37 amMiss Molly,
my point in bringing up mcgigi’s spawn is to try and make her think about her lovely war in real concrete terms. If she had to ponder what it would be like to feel her heart in her throat every time the news mentions a humvee hit by an IED, if she has to think about what it would be like to wake up in the middle of the night worrying about her child, night after night after night, she might question her leaders. I don’t want her kid to die any more than I want anyone to die fighting in Iraq. But she needs to understand the consequences of that immoral, illegal war. And if she supports it, she should be willing to pay those consequences.
March 7th, 2008 at 11:38 amI was just giving a gentle loving admonishment to them.

Of course you’re right, missmolly.
It would just be heartening to hear some wingnut, any wingnut — even a troll — recognize that it’s a whole lot easier to support an invasion and occupation when you’ve got no skin in the game.
Like their side says “A liberal is just a conservative who’s never been mugged” and like we say, “a conservative is just a liberal who hasn’t gotten cancer yet”, ones values and priorities tend to change once an issue becomes personally relevant.
If there WERE a draft, and the burdens of this sacrifice, this “most important fight of our lifetime” were shared among the population with a little more equity, the clamor for its conclusion would be deafening. And the wingnuts know it.
March 7th, 2008 at 11:39 amBut if he’s not having SEX with the lobbyists he’s surrounded by, it doesn’t matter. Being “in bed with”, figuratively, just isn’t the attention grabber that being “in bed with”, literally, has.
Any country that allows a president to be impeached for getting a blow job; but does NOTHING about an administration that “screws” not only this entire country but the whole world, in order to make themselves richer, is not going to give a flip about another presidential candidate who is obviously going to continue the policies of the past 7 years. (Even if he DID screw around on his first wife, years ago.)
March 7th, 2008 at 11:40 amPlus, does anyone really believe that gigi even has a child? This is the same “person” who goes out of their way to claim to be a reich-wing elitist with 3 cars, a beach-front condo in an elitist gated community, and has kids attending an elitist private school.

I agree completely. Warmongers who have no personal stake in the fight are as credible (not to mention irritating) as men who tell women they don’t have any right to do what they wish with their own bodies (when a man manages to get an unwanted pregnancy, THEN I’ll listen to what he has to say on the subject of abortion).
I just didn’t want to see a 16 year old kid (who, to my knowledge, has never done anything to us) being rounded up by the TP lynch mob and fed to the lions because we disagree with his father (or mother — I don’t know if GG’s gender has ever been established).
Surely we are smart enough and creative enough that we can challenge good_golly’s positions without making career plans for his kid.

March 7th, 2008 at 11:42 amI’m reminded of Tom Friedman’s claim early on in this debacle. He said, repeatidly, that it doesn’t matter whether there are WMD in Iraq or not. What mattered is that we show the “arab street” that we were willing to shed American blood. I so wanted to ask him to look at his kids the next time they sat down for breakfast and choose which one he was willing to sacrifice to show the arab street he meant business. I’m asking gigi the same thing. Off topic though it may be. On the bright sied, I’m not violating the terms of use for this site by advocating for or against any political candidate…

Exactly. A fair question to good_golly (and everybody else who supports our insane occupation over there) would be “If your son/daughter was on the front lines of this war, would you support it? Do you think this cause is worth the life of a child of yours?”
Then we can see if they can honestly say, “yes — if my child chose to enlist in the military and was sent to fight this war, I would still support it.” Better yet, let’s see if they would support reinstating the draft (which we really need if we are going to make a practice of fighting stupid wars), knowing it could reach their child. These are fair issues to pin them down on.

No one, that I know has asked Keltoi why his kids aren’t fighting in Iraq, not because he doesn’t support the bush adminstration, but because he operates in the world of logic and fact (to the extent that we all do). mcgigi, on the other hand does not. she deserves nothing but contempt and ridicule, and to the extent that her children are dragged into this, ask Chleslia how she felt being the punch line for mccrazy’s joke.
