Last night on Fox News’s The O’Reilly Factor, Karl Rove discussed Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) “compelling” life story. In addition to his time as a prisoner of war, Rove pointed to the fact that McCain adopted a daughter from a Bangladesh orphanage:
And today, that young child — who was near death — is their teenage daughter. I don’t think most people understand the compassion and love that would come from a moment like that.
Watch it:
But as Nicole Belle points out, as an adviser to the Bush campaign in 2000, Rove attacked that young girl. From The Nation:
Rove invented a uniquely injurious fiction for his operatives to circulate via a phony poll. Voters were asked, “Would you be more or less likely to vote for John McCain…if you knew he had fathered an illegitimate black child?” This was no random slur. McCain was at the time campaigning with his dark-skinned daughter, Bridget, adopted from Bangladesh.
Last night, Fox News also failed to identify Rove as an adviser to the McCain campaign.
UPDATE: Raw Story has more.
Transcript:
ROVE: For example, I disagree. I don’t think people know a lot about him.
O’REILLY: Yes?
ROVE: They don’t know about his views and values that informed him as a young man. They don’t know about what drew him to service in the United States Navy. They don’t know all of the compelling story about the POW experience that he had. They don’t know about what motivated him, what people and places in Phoenix and Sedona touch his life.
Let me give you just one example. I think most of your viewers would be shocked to hear the story about Cindy McCain in Bangladesh, visiting an orphanage. And she has a small dying child thrust into her hands. And the orphanage — the people in the orphanage say we can’t care for her, she’s dying. We don’t know what to do. And Cindy McCain’s impulse was to hug that child to her chest, get on an airplane, and bring her home.
And when she got off the plane, there was John McCain. And he said what do you got? And she said I’ve child who’s dying. We need to get her care. And John said well, who’s she going to be staying with? And Cindy McCain was saying I was hoping she could stay with us. And today, that young child who was near death, is their teenage daughter.
O’REILLY: OK.
ROVE: I don’t think most people understand the compassion and love –
O’REILLY: I agree.
ROVE: — that would come from a moment like that.
O’REILLY: All right.
ROVE: And there’s a lot more in John McCain’s story that he needs to tell.
OMG, Rove is absolutely filthy. **spit**
And O’Reilly, doing his “standing up for the kids” thing.
Oops, I guess he forgot…

March 8th, 2008 at 6:40 pmThese Republicans whore on each other, even going so far as to allow their children to be degraded, for power.
Of course McCain doesn’t mind having Rove as an advisor. McCain called Janet Reno the father of Chelsea Clinton.
These people are disgusting, shameless monsters.

March 8th, 2008 at 6:41 pmMcCain must have lost all of his dignity in Viet Nam.
March 8th, 2008 at 6:42 pmIs Rove trying to make up for using McCain’s daughter negatively as a political tool in 2000 by using her positively as a political tool in 2008?
March 8th, 2008 at 6:46 pmThe maverick if elected will bite you Karl.
March 8th, 2008 at 6:47 pmWhen you have the “bully pulpit” you can say what ever you please. When there is no balancing force, lies and distortions become truth.
If the only mirrors are like the ones in the fun house, distorted is normal and becomes real.

Are you suggesting, perhaps, that he has some nefarious purpose to this unexpected, and, to me, baffling, outpouring of praise for her?
March 8th, 2008 at 6:53 pmSave one. Bury a million?
March 8th, 2008 at 6:53 pmThat the program is to try and put McBush in a good light this way, indicates to me that they realize what a terrible place McBush is in right now. They are working to build him a warm and loving biography! It means they believe the public sees him as a cold and unloving person.
And I certainly agree with their assessment!
March 8th, 2008 at 6:54 pmOf course Rove would say this. That is what he does. He is addicted to power; he is addicted to lying. He know he is lying. He doesn’t care. It is what he does.
March 8th, 2008 at 6:54 pmSaint Cindy McCain as Rove story goes today. Now will we hear about how McCain cheated on his wife with many woman, until Cindy decided she wanted him. Yes McCain asked his wife for a divorce when she was in the recovery room after an operation in the hospital. If Rove now wants to tell the truth go all the way with it. Christian Family Values to McCain means sleeping with many woman while married and then letting a young rich girl buy you. I often wonder if Cindy wasn’t rich would McCain have married her?

Would I suggest that??? Nah… Rove is just a sweet and loving guy trying to be nice.
March 8th, 2008 at 6:56 pmShameless, disgusting scum-of-the-earth.
March 8th, 2008 at 6:59 pmThis is the girl that he used against McCain in those sleazy ads of ten years ago.
Now McCain embraces him.
That’s the desperation of unlimited ambition.
Fu(k them all – and the “whores” they rode in on.
Hey Merlin, I think you missed this last night. ;)
March 8th, 2008 at 7:03 pmChildren aside, this is why I dont trust McCain, he will suckup to what is basically his enemy. Colaborating.

Hey Merlin, I think you missed this last night. ;)
Thanks for the thought and link! I hope you enjoyed it. Had not seen them do it live. I like the version on Parsley better. They really had it perfected by that time. How young guys could write something that deep boggles my mind. Sadly, I was out shopping for my daughter last night at that time, so I missed it then.
Thanks again Zooey, you are a gem!

March 8th, 2008 at 7:29 pmAmerica is sick of the lies and tactics… Listening to John Rothman last night on KGO I heard the angry calls about Hillary. What Hillary calls throwing the kitchen sink at Obama is what Rothman calls playing politics as usual… he added they all do it and gave examples. But to the audience it resembles Bush lies…. and most are very angry at the idea the super delegates could over vote the will of the people. I do not believe the outrage, over the idea of the supe delegate voting against the will of the people, would be so great if Hillary remained honest and did not start the tactics. In another time throwing the kitchen sink worked, but now after all the hell Bush has put us through.
March 8th, 2008 at 7:55 pmAnd Rothman concluded at the end of his show WE COULD LOSE in ‘08 because of the divide.
Oh, pullleeeeeeeezzze, sleaze!
Why don’t you show us the knife you used to stab him in the back with, back in 2000? That’d be interesting!
March 8th, 2008 at 8:12 pmWilliam Hill is funny. Ha.

But of course you understand Gannon love, don’t you Rove.

March 8th, 2008 at 8:22 pmWhile John McCain was only too eager to accept George W. Bush’s embrace at the White House Wednesday, eight years ago McCain told him to “take your hands off me.”
For the details of how John McCain suppressed his seething Bush hatred in his eternal quest for the presidency, see:
March 8th, 2008 at 8:52 pm“McCain to Bush in 2000: ‘Take Your Hands Off Me.’”
I’m hoping that Turd Blossom gets grilled on a talk show about his blatant hypocrisy.
There are days where I keep hoping Rove will be driving home in his BMW, whistling a happy tune, then suddenly a huge sinkhole opens up in the highway, swallowing up his car(as well as his fat, screaming ass) into the void.
March 8th, 2008 at 9:00 pmThat’s a joke, of course! I don’t wish harm to Karl Rove. I just think he’s about the most disgusting pig on the planet!

sanctity of marriage? yes…uhm…unless the husband wants to make medical decisions for his wife that we dont like…
life? its important, unless it has consciousness, the ability to feel pain, and isnt american..
killing a fetus? bad..unless its done by bomb dropping from a plane,,
March 9th, 2008 at 12:28 amIt should be noted that McCain was not a “prisoner of war” who was “tortured” as this article mentions. He was a detainee who was subjected to enhanced interrogation techniques.
March 9th, 2008 at 12:45 amYou all slam Rove. The majority of Americans will never be made aware of his psychopathic abilities. Right now probably a good deal of Americans think Rove is a hero. After all, they have short attemtion spans and Rove does have a prominent TV job! That counts for a lot in couch potato land esteem.
March 9th, 2008 at 3:50 amAnybody remember the phrase “Death to tyrants”?
March 9th, 2008 at 3:51 amRove’s television appearances enable the right to further destroy American democracy.

Hillary Rove Clinton throwing the proverbial kitchen sink at Obama does nothing but make her look like a Republiscum in the eyes of Americans. I doubt that we will lose in 2008, but the only scenario under which I can conceive of a Democratic loss is if the Super Delegates give the nomination to Hillary, thereby going against the will of the people. That would be tantamount to the Supremes giving Bush the White House.
March 9th, 2008 at 2:47 pmPerhaps O’reilly would have been more honest in his interviewing if he had clarified to Rove “isn’t that the little black girl McCain illegitimately fathered, the one we’ve heard so much about”?
March 9th, 2008 at 3:18 pmI don’t think Karl benefits from residual SS protection. That means that, under the right circumstances, he could be grabbed and held to the ground while someone rips a rancid fart right into his fat face.
Then the video could be posted on YouTube, and the whole world could finally have the jolly laugh it deserves at the expense of the sickest rat-bastard ever to participate in American politics.
March 9th, 2008 at 3:33 pmThe DNC should pay a PI to shadow Rove 24/7 and get the real goods on that fat little swine.
