The Hateful And Divisive Record Of Bigot Steve King»

In comments typical of his xenophobic and hateful record, Rep. Steve King (R-IA) recently told a local Iowa radio station that al Qaeda would “be dancing in the middle of the streets” if Barack Obama were elected President “because of his middle name.” He said terrorists “will be dancing in the streets because of who his father was and because of his posture that says: Pull out of the Middle East and pull out of this conflict.” Watch it:

Despite having once called John McCain an “amnesty mercenary,” King said he is now supporting McCain for president. McCain has yet to repudiate King’s comments about Obama.

Steve King took office in 2002 after gathering “66 percent of the vote in a heavily Republican district that covers 32 counties in western and a bit of south-central Iowa.” And since that time, he has been a non-stop source of inflammatory hate speech. Some examples:

– King compared immigrants to “livestock” in proposing an electrified fence for the southern border.

– He has called undocumented immigration a “slow-moving terrorist attack.”

– King said that each senator who votes for the comprehensive immigration reform bill should “wear a scarlet letter A for amnesty.”

– King said the abuse of Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib amounted to little more than “hazing.”

– King refused to vote for an innocuous House resolution commending the Muslims on the Ramadan holiday. (To attack those who did, he turned around and proposed a resolution commemorating Christmas.)

– King has decried an “assault on Christmas” from “secularists” who want to “eradicate Christ from Christmas.”

– King released a “report” baselessly claiming that undocumented immigrants have murdered more Americans than the combined death toll of U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2002.

– King praised Joe McCarthy as “a great American hero.”

– After the terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed, King derisively said he was now at a place where there are 72 virgins who “probably all look like Helen Thomas.”

In addition to his impressive record of hate, he has also been prone to remarks of pure idiocy. For example, King said in 2006 that the average civilian in Washington DC is probably “at far greater risk” of being killed than an average civilian in Iraq. After Bush vetoed a bill that would have expanded children’s health insurance, King declared it a “victory” for kids. The Des Moines Register wrote in 2005: “Spare us more embarrassment: Replace King.”

UPDATE: McCain spokeswoman Brooke Buchanan told Fox News:

“The Senator has been clear that he intends to keep this campaign about the issues. He has condemned similar comments by (radio talk show host) Bill Cunningham. He doesn’t agree with King’s comments,” Buchanan said. “He intends to run a respectful race and keep it about the issues.”

Well, he is a leading wingnut, so idiocy would b a prime requirement. He is the perfect embodiment of the reasons we are losing all three wars and the treasury. Osama wouldn’t have had a chance without the help of traitors like King.

Off Topic but worth the read:
McBush and the neocon enablers make much ado about how Iraq is a great place to be now that we executed Saadam, took care of some troublesome cities (with WP) and made the surge work. Well, here is a link to an article on the DailyKos about how wonderful the women feel it is. Worth the read!

Iraqi women continue to bear the brunt of the Iraq war as religious intolerance becomes commonplace and their rights are ripped away. Women-owned businesses all over Iraq are being closed, violence toward women has sharply increased, and nearly 70% of Iraqi women are now forbidden from attending school. Sounds like those Iraqi women are really enjoying our “freedom.”

Christmas is actually a Pagan celebration.
King’s comments remind me of a quote, “I am not prejudiced. I hate everyone no matter what race colour or creed”.

  27. Bad Eye Says:

I’ve been recently watching the classing movie The Day The Earth Stood Still and 57 years later there are a few quotes from Michael Rennie’s character (Klaatu, the alien) that I think fit quite well regarding today’s current events (i.e. the “war on terror” and all that goes along with it, including ignorant remarks from the likes of King).

For those of you who have not seen the movie, I highly recommend it, especially if you like science fiction from the 1950s. The gist of the movie is that a member of an alien race visits Earth to warn of the dangers of nuclear technology, especially to other planets since the technology will soon be applied to spacecraft.

    Anyway, here are the quotes:

    “I am impatient with stupidity.”

    and

“There must be security for all, or no one is secure. Now, this does not mean giving up any freedom, except the freedom to act irresponsibly.”

My first thought? WHO CARES if the ‘terrorists’ dance in the middle of the streets? If they’re happy, that kinda means they aren’t seething in anger, thinking of ways to kill Americans as retribution for despicable US foreign policy under Bush.

If electing Obama is enough to stop the violence, all the more reason (on top of many already good reasons) to elect for him post-haste.

  41. impeachcheneythenbush Says:

Here is another of Rep. King’s brilliant ideas:

“Controversial attempt at restricting the travel of Speaker Nancy Pelosi
On June 21, 2007, King introduced an amendment to the $34 billion State and Foreign Operations bill to prohibit funds from being used to travel to Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan or Syria.[14] According to a King spokesman, “The measure only applies to one position — the Speaker of the House,” and the amendment was introduced specifically to restrict Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s travels. When asked why the measure did not apply to Republican House members who had also made trips to the countries in question, such as Eric Cantor, David Hobson, Darrell Issa, and Frank Wolf, King’s spokesman replied that he was unsure whether that had been considered, or why it might not have been.”

  46. Bad Eye Says:

As ignorant as King’s remarks are, he really doesn’t believe what he is saying. What bothers me is that many (R) voters will. They lack the capacity of common sense.

It’s like the conversation I had with a nutjob on a local message board a few weeks ago. He had posted a link to a story about Obama’s church, which suggested they practiced black supremacy. Running with this, the nut claimed that Obama is the only candidate that is a practicing racist. I understand that Obama’s church has about 8000 members; I asked the nut if any of the other 7999 members were also racists, and he said he didn’t know. “I don’t know what’s in their hearts. How could I?” he asked back. I asked if he had any other proof of Obama’s supposed racist inclinations, such as public comments or actions, and he declined.

A$$holes… why can’t we just use the esses (s)? The most murderous president and vice president we’ve ever had and I have to disguise my words because you seem to think someone here is going to be more offended by mere words than by what George Bush has done?!!! Pussies, just like our Congress. Think Progress, stop treating us like scared little children like Bush does. Let us have our freedom or speech!

  58. Marie Says:

Foster’s win in Illinois is a big upset for the repugs. The race will be run again in the fall, as this was only a 6-month interim position, but the repugs blew a million dollars on this campaign (20% of their treasury) and they lost.
This win portends a turning of the tide so to speak — this district is very repugnican, but Dems are gaining every year and this proves it.

Obama’s win in Wyoming, the anticipated win in Mississippi will put him even farther ahead of Clinton. She is not going to go down easily - she will try everything (ethical and unethical) to get the win, but Obama remains calm and cool.
Who do I want to answer that red phone? I want the guy who is calm under pressure, doesn’t act impulsively, and is sincere.

Just one more brain dead Rethuglican hood. King you are worse than scum. I do hope you read this, if you know how to read. You don’t deserve any respect, and I give you none.

  69. The Shadow Says:

Rep. King is wrong, the terrorist will be dancing in the streets if John McCain wins. Why? Because we will stay in Iraq and they get to recruit more terrorist. It’s simple, the main reason for them hating us is because we are in Iraq. I’m not saying that some of them don’t hate America anyway, but us staying in Iraq is their best recruit tool. Why wouldn’t they be able to convince young unemployed Arab men to join, when they can simply say, “They are fighting against Islam”. Don’t get me wrong, I want to kill every terrorist on the planet, but I don’t want to help them recruit more of their kind. To do so is the stupidest thing we could do. As for Rep. King, he’s clearly a racist who’s afraid to come out and use the “N word” so this has become the next best thing.

  70. The Shadow Says:

I nominate Sen. Geo. Macaca Allen for John McCain’s running mate. Why not, he’s racist, and he’s conservative. Oh, I forgot, they are both the same thing. So, he only has one quality, who needs for than that to become VP. The Republicans are all members of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan and darn proud of it.

  71. The Shadow Says:

Dear Voters in Rep King District

Either you people are a bunch of morons for electing this guy or you believe the garbage that he believes. Which is it? I’d like to know because this man is clearly sick and needs help. I understand you voting for him because you are Republicans are so is he, but don’t you guys hold you Representatives responsible for what they say? If my Congressman said something this racist, I’d demand that he step down.

Why are you remaining silent in the face of his clearly racist or bigoted at best remarks. I mean come on what do you guys say to the black soldiers who are fighting for us in Iraq? Thanks, but no thanks? We want you to fight and die for us, but don’t dare run for President? I’m a veteran and American who happens to be black, and I don’t want to believe there are really people like that in this country. The enemy who I stood against didn’t care if I was black, white, they wanted to kill be because I was an American.

Answer this question: Did the terrorists care what race the people in the world trade center were? No, they were out to kill Americans, not because of race, but because they hate ALL of us. Remember what President Lincoln said: “A house divided cannot stand”. How long will you people let fools like Rep. King divide America? Why couldn’t he just say, he was against Obama because he’s a Democrat? There’s nothing wrong with that at all. I support his right to disagree, but the words he continues to defend are indefensible and you guys know it.

Mccain didn,t repudiate him because he is a part of that crowd, people need to wake up and see that these people are not about liberty and freedom all they know is hate for anybody who they think is a threat to them, that is what Mccarthism was all about, read your history…….
