McCain walks back claim that Baghdad is like a U.S. city.

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) yesterday equated the security situation in Baghdad with any American city, telling an audience, “There’s problems in America with safe neighborhoods as we well know.” But he quickly tried to walk back his comment, stating, “I’m not making that comparison. Because it’s much more deadly in Iraq obviously. But it’s kind of the same theory.” Americablog has the video.

So… it’s “the same kind of theory” but it’s not a comparison.

    WTF?

What does McLame think the word “comparison” means?

Just what we need — another illiterate president.

He still has claims that haven’t been “walked back”? Wow – I thought he’d already contradicted himself re: everything he’s ever said.

The whole McCain campaign is standing on one issue, and that issue is : ‘Everything Is fine In Iraq’, the surge is working’
Is there is a surge in any American city?…How about any capital in the world..?
He is painting a nice rosey picture, the same rosey picture that Iraqi government telling its people.

  10. osiris says:

By the time the election rolls around, McCrazy will have flipflopped on every major issue and will be engulfed in his own corruption. I predict that it will be a one man race for the white house – no GOP candidate worth a crap to even begin to be competitive.

  11. osiris says:

#10 And as far as the surge goes, the only reasons why the violence had been down is because everyone’s been run out of the area coupled with huge payoff money (12 billion) to Al Sadr.
Did Congress or the people approve Bush to be giving payoff money from our war budget?

    1. 911
    2. Their own propaganda channel on FOX
    3. President and both Senate and House
    4. The Supreme Court
    5. A scared, obedient public

And they only lasted 7 years.

That’s got to be a record.

The Neocons and PNAC will never be more than radical fringe groups. They had the perfect storm for world domination and make no mistake,

    They know their limitations know.

  13. BearCountry says:

Let me get this straight: going from JFK airport to downtown Manhattan is just like going from the airport, now known as Baghdad International, serving Baghdad, Iraq to downtown Baghdad, or walking in Times Square is just like being in one of Baghdad’s open-air markets. That reminds me of then President Ford’s statement during one of the Presidential debates with Jimmy Carter that Poland was not dominated by Russia.

That reminds me, will mccain grant w/cheney preemptive pardons?

  14. Above the Clouds says:

McCain is the face of everything wrong with the GOP and Bush-style politics. Old, bloated, and with NOTHING to offer America but more war, death, and debt. Had enough?

  15. tom says:

Is there is a surge in any American city?

Not to worry. McBush will select Julie-Annie as his running mate. The U.S. surge (a la NYC) will begin in 2009.
    /sarcasm off

    As found at : thefreedictionary.com

    Surge: A noun
    #4- a sudden onrush…
    Sudden: A Adjective
#3- characterized by rapidity, quick and swift…

The “Surge” was none of the above, It took months to place the troops back to Iraq, so there was nothing “sudden” about the ‘Surge!”

As incredible as this statement from McCain is, even more incredible…check out the 2 videos on Ameriblog about the MIA/POW Committee McCain was on back in the 90’s. I don’t remember ever seeing these (and only vaguely remember hearing something negative once) during his 2000 run…surprisingly. In addition, the first video is very critical of John Kerry as well, and I don’t remember seeing or hearing much or this during his 2004 run. If this is just my faulty memory, let me know.

  20. The Shadow says:

That’s funny, when I write about the Republicans, my comments get picked up by Big Brother. When I typed, “Hello” nothing happened. How do I know this? Because a little box popped up before and when I typed “Hello” it didn’t. Man I might end up in GITMO for taling against the Republicans.

  21. tombaker says:

When the VC tortured John McCain, he eventually caved, and recorded on film statements “repudiating” the USA.

“We” would therefore say torture doesn’t work, because John McCain is not a traitor.

Yet, when “we” torture prisoners, “we” say that the info “we” get is good info.

So – either torture is ineffective and wrong, OR John McCain is in fact a traitor.

One of these two must be true, so pick, righties – which is it??????

Or are you all such craven liars (that’s where my money is) that you will deny all of the above????

  22. Marie says:

Far be it from me to make any excuses for a repugnican, but I warn you all — Don’t get too excited about McCain’s stumbling attempts to explain anything — remember that in 2000, George W was not making any sense whatsoever in America and he was still elected!
(With a little help from the press and the SCOTUS.)

McCain has a short fuse, doesn’t have a grasp of economics, is living in a dreamworld regarding Iraq, has flip-flopped on too many issues to count, and for those reasons alone, he should NOT be even considered the the White House….

Do you guys want to no a secret about John McCain and conservatives. Conservatives, such as myself, are prepared to cross party lines and vote against McCain because we don’t want him representing our party. The secret is, this will only happen if Hillary is the nominee. Most Conservatives will not vote for Barack under any circumstance, because of his ignorance on foreign policy issues and his philosophy that would guide his Judicial appointments. To simplify, we can live with Hillary, but Barack is too dangerous. If you guys would make sure that Hillary wins the nomination, I can guarantee that conservatives will support you, at least until 2012.

B.S. Mandolin. Conservatives WANT Hillary to be the Dem nominee because they think McCain has a better chance of beating HER, but not Obama. No one here is fooled…by you, or Limbaugh.

  32. mandolin says:

I sincerely want John McCain to lose because I think he destroys the Republican party by bringing liberal idiots into the party. McCain is a hack and he doesn’t deserve to be the Republican nominee, much less the President. You guys are right, I don’t have your best interests at heart. I want to have a conservative in the Whitehouse in 2012. I don’t have that choice in 2008, so I would just assume that the Democrats win this year. Personally I might even consider voting for Obama as well. I think he is a radical leftist, but if he gets elected, I might have a chance of getting a decent conservative in 2012. You guys are missing an excellent opportunity. Conservatives are more than willing to help you take down McCain.

  33. mandolin says:

I’ll even give you advice on how to make McCain look worse to conservatives. McCain is ignorant about Originalist Constitutional philosophy. This is one of the biggest issues that unites conservatives and McCain doesn’t even know what an Originalist is. Media conservatives are covering for him right now, but if you can expose his ignorance on the subject, conservatives will either turn to third party candidates or vote Democrat like I am planning on doing.

  34. tombaker says:

As much as I usually give credence to small, hollow, highly-strung wooden instruments, I’m still going to just-not-care, buddy.

Have this talk with some of your other conservative friends – maybe it will give you all enough reasons to reconsider your allegiance to a corrupt and obsolete political ideology.

That would be a real step forward for y’all, and the only one that will give you any relevance in the future.

  40. mandolin says:

    Tombaker,
I hope you’re right. I hope you win this year, but I want to make sure of it.

  41. mandolin says:

I know you guys think that McCain doesn’t have a chance, but he does have a strong appeal to moderates because he is a liberal. If he is succesful in getting the Conservative and Moderate vote he will win. That is why you guys need to pray that Conservatives work against him and you would be smart to aid that.

  42. Marie says:

Based on what? The way they took that huge budget deficit that Clinton left us and turned it into a huge surplus?
The way they used those telecom wiretaps to prevent 9-11?
The way they have raised America’s standing and reputation around the world?
The way they have shown by example the best in their honesty, incorruptability and American values?
The way they have prudently handled the economy and provided stringent oversight of the taxpayers money, where it goes and how it is spent?
The way they have put the well being of our military before political concerns and well connected contractors?
The value they put on human lives and America’s future?
I could go on singing their praise for a couple hours..but I do have other things to do

neither does 99 percent of the american populace moron..you think this Originalist crap is going to be the definitive issue?.. no.. the reason you guys dont like mc cain is he doesnt march lockstep with you on every single issue, even though he agrees with you 90 percent of the time. you people are completely intolerant of dissent and thats one of the many reasons your going to lose badly without Dievine (or Diebold) intervention…without stirring up the nutjobs with innane fears of their entire paycheck being taxed away and used to finance gay wedding for al-queda, you have nothing to motivate peopel to go to the polls. yeah, mccain has some sympthathy for the hard working mexicans who make sure your apples dont cost 5 dollars apiece, he’s a real traitor to your precious conservative agenda..
