MSNBC cancels Tucker Carlson.

By Amanda Terkel on Mar 9th, 2008 at 7:34 pm

MSNBC cancels Tucker Carlson.

TV Newser reports:

Tucker Carlson’s 6pmET show Tucker is getting the axe, but Carlson stays on as a political contributor to all MSNBC shows at least through the 2008 election. The official announcement, expected tomorrow, will include details about who will replace Tucker at 6pmET as well as other political programming additions. Sources say the network is going to beef up its schedule with more NBC News talent. [...]

Carlson is expected to host the show through next week, with his new role and title to take effect March 17. We’re told he’ll also be reporting from the campaign trail.

I make it a point to change the channel anytime Tucker’s smug little face appears on the screen. This is good news indeed.

I definitely wouldn’t mind seeing Rachel Maddow or Allison Stewart replacing him in the timeslot.

Well, Jeremy, it looks like you won’t hafta change the channel nearly as often from here on in, huh?

Good news about Savage though, just saw in Saturdays Chronicle that the judge in Savages trail with Moslem folk got thrown out by the court. seems as though Savage thought he could sue under copywright laws and tried a full court press wrapped up in the 1st amendment.

I’m trying to think of a pundit that would be a good fit between Chris Matthew’s “Hardball” and Olbermann’s “Countdown”.

What NBC pundit hate’s Hillary’s guts as much as Olbermann and Matthews, and also gets weird sensations up their legs everytime Obama opens his mouth?

    Russert?
    Maddow?
    Shuster?

Gotta have a Clinton hater and an Obama fluffer in that spot.

This election is way to important. We gotta change Washington! And only an overly ambitious, win at all costs lightweight can do the job! Yes he can!
    Yes he can!

  49. 2MillionLightYearsToAndromeda says:

Does this mean Rachael Maddow is getting a show?

  50. tanglewood says:

If MSNBC were smart they would also dump Matthews, and Scarborough–it would be a trifecta. “Morning Jerk” has an audience of 300,000 listeners–and he keeps losing more each month. Matthews numbers are terrible also.

To think that MSNBC will put someone great in that 6PM slot is wishful thinking. They will probably give it to “Hand talker” Buchanan. Buchanan can’t open his mouth without his arms and hands flapping.

That network is irrelevant to me. At 6 pm., I’m watching BBC news in the market I live in.

  51. tanglewood says:

OxyCon: Hit the bricks. You don’t know what you are talking about. Obama is a breath of fresh air.

I agree with that one thousand percent.
I just checked Scarborough’s wikipedia entry.
What an ass! His Congressional legislation was ridiculous and he decided to resign in the spring of 2001 less than six months after taking office. Wtf did he run for is he was just going to resign?
    Something doesn’t smell right.
    Google Lori Klausutis

Matthews is a babbling idiot who constantly interrupts his guess, talks nonsense and sprays spittle.
How does an idiot like him even have a high profile job?
Pat Buchanon is a relic from another era. I wish we could put him in a time machine and send him back to the ’70’s so he can fight communism. He’s a dinosaur.

Both Rachel and David Shulster should have their own shows. That’s tremendous news to hear Tucker is on the way out. Let’s not use him for anything , and he can go find a game show to do right now! Tucker Carlson is the most extreme right wing, biased, incompetent pundit on MSNBC. He’s a severe insult to anyone’s intelligence!

  63. Aanya says:

One more thought, how could I have forgotton Joe Scarborough. Instead of “Morning Joe”, how about ” Cup of Shulster”? I don’t watch too much of Morning Joe, as I live on the west coast. What I do see, he’s a lame, cranky, know it all, and could do the show entirely by himself. He overwhelms every moment he’s on. He both asks the questions, and he answers them. He’s a one man show, and he’s also his biggest fan!

  65. tanglewood says:

I have a very bad feeling it may be Huckabee–he’s been on MSNBC an awful lot–especially on “Morning Jerk”–it wouldn’t surprise me in the least.

Any network that got rid of Phil Donahue for no other reason than his strong antiwar feelings is not worth watching.

on cable… but it would only be worth it if they would let her do
HER SHOW… somehow i don’t think nbc could handle it…
whole lotta truthiness going on there…

the changes to AAR lately include giving her show a 3rd hour, taking calls, with david bender… starts this week… and on the days that she is scheduled to be on countdown, bender will take over… it was planned that way to keep her available for the “tv machine”…
    go rachel!

    oh… and, poor tucker…

  68. Mark @ News Corpse says:

    I finally made it happen!

You can all start thanking me now. I have been making the case for canceling this show for two years. Most recently, this very morning:

    Tucker Carlson’s Ethics Education

And I produced slick presentations, with eye popping graphics describing why this show was bringing down the whole network:

    Tucker Carlson: The Biggest Loser

And there was my signature pitch for Tucker’s banishment from TV:

Tucker Carlson: A Ratings Black Hole

It was a long slog, but now I can say with confidence that it was all worth it.

    Hallelujah!

We’re all wrong — David Gregory got the slot according to Huffpo.

  108. kritter says:

I like Gregory as a reporter, but he has no personality as a host and stumbles badly when interviewing guests. Don’t look for the ratings to go up with him on board! They need someone a little controversial and spunky like Maddow or Shuster that will call a spade a spade, and not just sit there nodding politely.

  109. sissydee says:

Glad to hear that he is being dumped. Never did like him. Really hope he would be replaced with someone who would be able to be nonjudgemental…..if that’s possible.

  110. drock234 says:

welcome to FOX News Tucker. Fair and balanced. and not crazy…

  111. batteries says:

If MSNBC were smart they would also dump Matthews, and Scarborough–it would be a trifecta. “Morning Jerk” has an audience of 300,000 listeners–and he keeps losing more each month. Matthews numbers are terrible also.

To think that MSNBC will put someone great in that 6PM slot is wishful thinking. They will probably give it to “Hand talker” Buchanan. Buchanan can’t open hp ze2000 battery,hp dv4000 battery his mouth without his arms and hands flapping.
