Cheney speech met with ‘polite’ applause.

On Friday, Vice President Cheney gave a graduation speech at the Great Lakes Naval Training base in Illinois. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Cheney “got some enthusiastic and some just-polite applause,” especially from those whom have had to serve multiple tours in Iraq over the last five years. Naval Training officer Marcus Perkins — who has served five tours in Iraq — was not impressed:

It took him eight years to get here … at the end of his tenure,” Perkins said of Cheney. “This was more like a pep rally. He could have sent an e-mail for that.

A better reception would have been to march him in irons to the end of Navy Pier.

  2. GSD says:

Did he shoot any graduates in the face?

Cheney at a ‘pep’ rally? I could see Shooter going to a slumber party, but not one which would require conscienceness – it’s just not his style…ZZZzzzzzzzzz…

  6. The Republic of Stupidity says:

There’s something ironically appropriate about Cheney talking at a land locked Navy base…

  7. Zooey says:

He should have gotten the same treatment Rove got in Iowa.

  8. Marie says:

Cheney told the recruits that his father came through this base during World War II and he was proud of his father’s service.
    ———-

Chutzpah – he has plenty of that – to appear before sailors who have done multiple tours in Iraq.
That stainless steel heart of his is matched with brass balls.
No earthly punishment is enough for him, but I’d like to see them all attempted anyway.

  9. RUCerious says:

Sorry, he lost that email. So go Cheney yourself.

Darth Cheney had to deliver his speech in person. Apparently, he’s been having bad luck with e-mails lately.

Yeah, this traitorous leech on the American taxpayers only speaks to captive audiences that are obligated to obey their superiors.

He will never give a speech to the American public.

Great lakes Naval training center is not landlocked. It is on a Great Lake.

Iraq is not landlocked either. It has a skinny bit of coastline on the Persian Gulf at Basra. Nevertheless, a great many Naval personel have lost their lives in Iraq. Tragically, the Military is so stretched for troops, that has deployed Sailors in the desert.

but, really, you had to make a snark about “the Great Lakes Naval Training base” ???

    ha!

my daughter’s friends would plan trips to chicago for fleet week…
not bad… not bad at all…

Ya know, katy… I had distant memories of a high school teacher mentioning that base once and saying something about land locked, and I did start to Google it, and got “SOMETHING” about land locked…

Shudda looked closer… I mean, how often do I do that? Really?

BTW, you used the magic word… “SNARK”!

  28. bogtrotters says:

Believe it or not, I had a good friend who, during World War II, was an elevator officer on a paddle-wheeled aircraft carrier at that base.
Their record was immaculate–not a single Zero tried to strafe Chicago.

I forgot to ask him, with the paddle wheel and all, did they have their own Dixieland jazz band?

To be fair…Great Lakes Naval Training Center is A TRAINING center. It is where recruits receive their BASIC TRAINING.

That’s why it is located in the heartland…and does not see Naval combat apart from training exercises.

  32. celtic cynic says:

I wonder if the Navy had to pay Cheney to make an appearance as in Rove and Gonzalez and Rumsfeld speeches at different schools.

  34. Cal Malenky says:

What was the carbon footprint on that little junket? Dick flies in a 757 to O’Hare or Milwaukee, he helicopters to his destination. More than one helicopter. One’s a decoy. A fleet of black Suburbans.
    Shoulda sent an email.

  35. 99Luf Balloons says:

I am sure the answer from Darth Cheney’s lair would be:
“The Vice Precedent’s office does not give detail on his travel arrangements, and we can do whatever the FU(K we want, got it? Good. Fu(k you and your carbon footprint. Bend over, I will show you a footprint.”
