Hoekstra: American mental health at risk without PAA.

House Republicans are so intent on forcing through the Senate-approved surveillance bill “that they’ve tried to attach it to some strange vehicles,” including “an unrelated mental health parity bill (HR 1424).” Attempting to justify this move, Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-MI) was forced to stretch logic:

This bill is intended to ensure the mental health of Americans; yet, no American’s health can be fully secured if they are under attack by a terrorist or facing the potential threat of terrorist attack.

hmmm... if this bill is about the mental health of Americans... shouldn't Impeachment be attached to it too?

  2. dietrich Says:

Oh,the irony of a loony like Hokstra(sp) talking about mental health.
He's right in a way, the trolls here are always shitting their pants.take care tony and guide dog lido

  3. Uncle Ho Says:

I'm ashamed that horseshit Hoesktra is from Michigan, but thankfully, he does not represent my district. He is an awful embarrassment to my state.

  4. DieNowForPeace Says:

Yes, we should pass good legislation withou-

LOOK, A BIG BEAR COMING TO KILL US AND FEED ON OUR CHILDREN!!

    RUUUUUUN!!!!!!!

  5. The Republic of Stupidity Says:

Whoa... now there are 2 subjects Hoekstra's unqualified to talk about... mental health and national security.

Perhaps he should spell his name "Hoaxstra"...

  6. IgnoranceIsNotBliss Says:

This bill is intended to ensure the mental health of Americans; yet, no American’s health can be fully secured if they are under attack by a terrorist or facing the potential threat of terrorist attack.

But it's okay to torture people because it doesn't affect their mental health right? RIGHT?

Man these people will try anything.

  7. civil behavior Says:

My own mental health has been stretched to the limit.

I've had it with these dogs.

We had a local election here yesterday in a city of 90K people and less than 5K voted.

Americans deserve everything they have coming to them.

  8. Evil Spaniard Says:

Obviously, the PAA is a mental health issue. I mean, no one sane enough would have written down such an outrageous bill.

  13. missmolly Says:

This makes about as much sense as attaching a minimum wage bill -- because if you are the victim of a terrorist attack, you can't work.

  15. Doc Rock Says:

Makes you wonder about how hard the heads of the folks who vote guys like Hoekstra into office may be! Perhaps we can adapt Mohs hardness scale to check? It probably would just scratch the surface of the issue though.

  16. Ms_Joanne Says:

We've been under attack from terrorists continually for the last seven years. Our government is constantly trying to terrorize us into acquiescence. Thus far, they have succeeded.

Of course, a little evesdropping here and blackmail there doesn't hurt, either. Just ask Pelosi and Reid. We are already learning about Spitzer.

  17. civil behavior Says:

    Republic,

In case you hadn't noticed most Americans don't vote.

If 5% of the people get out to vote and 3 % of them represent big business then all Americans deserve everything they have coming to them and guaranteed........it's coming.

No one is going to stop this freight train now.

speaking of mental health (he-hum) Hoekstra is a candidate for a complete psychiatric evaluation with this hypothesis. He can take the Chimp and Deadeye with him, too. Both have mental health issues and are on serious meds.

Isn't it time to check this president's meds? After his tap dance and "pretty face" comment, I'd say that his Prozac needs serious adjustment down.

I have indeed noticed. What did my comment say?

"Those that don't vote"... I've skipped 2 small local elections since the late 70's. Other than that, I ALWAYS vote. Not only do I vote, I actually take the time to read those little booklets they send in the mail, local, state and Federal. I read them MORE than once, usually about 3 times.

As I like to say, "As long as I have the right, at least I'm going to throw my brick!"

I don't understand the claim regarding Americans fearing terrorists. A person is much more likely to die in an automobile accident in this country than to be killed by terrorists.

Knowing that, we don't worry ourselves silly thinking about how bad cars are and how we are going to stop them. The war on terror doesn't exist. The war *of* terror does.

This is one of my pet peeves. I was listening the other day to a group of people I work with gripe about the state of our government. I casually asked them, "how many of you voted in the last election" and two out of five raised their hands. I said "well, then, the two of you can continue this conversation, the rest of you have no right to participate. If you don't vote, you have no right to bitch about what is happening in our government".

  46. nellieh Says:

Are there dumber or stupiser Representatives than Hoekstra and Burton. They must have attended the same brainwashing school to dumb down their talk to constituents. And they keep getting elected. What does that say for their districts? They both can come up with stupid sh*t!

  48. Bilbo Hussein Baggins Says:

This is a good example of why we need to pass legislation saying that a bill can only contain a single issue. It will make their work a little harder because they will need to pass more bills. But it will do away with this kind of chicanery. I imagine that the Democrats have a couple of legislative aides who work full time reading all bills submitted in it's entirety to make sure that the Republicans aren't trying to slip a poison pill into the legislation.

I thought we had already had a couple of instances where they just flat out slipped crap into bills in the middle of the night, then claimed the next day they didn't know how it got there.

  50. Bluestocking Says:

If Hoekstra -- or indeed, most other Congressciritters, Republican and Democrat alike -- truly cared about the mental health of Americans, he (and they) should have been doing more to keep President Bush in check and in his proper place as outlined by the Constitution. At least in my opinion, Bush himself has already done a great deal of damage to American morale and mental health -- yet they've done precious little to stop him.

certainly some of those buying-up shoreline, particularly Lk Mich shoreline, are Big 3 retirees, but the vast majority are rich retirees from chicago. not just retirees. many are just filthy rich and have built their million+ dollar summer "cottages" on the dunes overlooking the lake. michigan's western shoreline has become a chicago suburb. it's a real shame!
