28 percent:

28 percent:

Americans who don’t know that the number of U.S. troop deaths in Iraq is near 4,000, according to a new Pew Research Center poll. Nearly half put the tally far lower, near 3,000. As of today, the Department of Defense has confirmed the deaths of 3,973 U.S. soldiers.

The same 28 percent who still support Chimpy and his gang?

  2. raynman says:

Almost 4,000 Americans not returning home to their families, economy in the toilet, gas reaching $5 by the end of summer…

Yeah, 4 more years of this sounds great, don’t it

  3. Zimzone says:

Coercing the MSM to not cover the illegal invasion must help some…

  4. OsirisHusseinOsiris says:

Since the fascist media is in the hands of the criminal puppeteers, the people cannot trust what they watch on TV or read in the papers. This collusion will make these two media modes totally obsolete in the near future. They’re sealing their own fate each day.

  5. OsirisHusseinOsiris says:

Newspapers are tanking every day; Faux News’ nielsons are tanking and the day of the 24 hour programs who cherry pick the propaganda will soon be epilogue.

  6. toasterhead says:

Of course, that 3,973 figure is not counting the 150 soldiers who died in the US or Germany from wounds suffered in Iraq, or the 20,000 wounded.

    Details, details…

  7. OsirisHusseinOsiris says:

raynman-how can this mentally incompetent GOPher named John McSame align himself with all that’s wrong with this country and believe that he has a snowball’s chance in hell of winning? Denial is not just a river in Egypt; denial is alive and well in the body habitus of John McLiar.

  8. OsirisHusseinOsiris says:

zimzone – not just “help” but “payoffs”, too.

  9. raynman says:

    I don’t know what scares me more…

the fact that McSame will be running on the concept of 4 more years…

Or that there will be millions of people who will vote for him….

  10. missmolly says:

I am encouraged to realize this no doubt means that 72% of Americans are aware of the U.S. troop body count. This seems to be a higher percentage of awareness than normal when it comes to world events.

Of course, it probably still doesn’t come near the percentage of Americans who know who last season’s American Idol winner is.

  11. Mr. Evil says:

And nearly 50% of Americans still believe Iraq had something to do with 9-11. We all pretty much agree that Bush is dumb. But when push comes to shove, Americans can dumb themselves down faster than anyone.

  12. Marie says:

This has nothing to do with the fact that the war news is off the front pages of newspapers, and barely given note on the news networks.
The ill-informed public suffers from ADD, and the lack of journalism plays a large role in the ignorance.
The corporate moguls in charge of the news and information reaching the public have determined that pretty faces, well-coiffed heads and repetition of gossip, he said/she said reporting are more suitable to their profit motives.
Meanwhile, 4000 families will never be the same; tens of thousands of wounded vets will never be the same; the toll of those suffering from the invisible psychological scars of this war has yet to be determined — our children and grandchildren will be seeing that statistic.
The Bushies and their minions will continue to lie and twist facts; they will continue to keep the truth hidden; they will continue to support the shredding of the Constitution — and the 30% brain-dead of the population will applaud.

Clearly from this poll and many others 1 out of every 4 Americans is an ignorant tool.

I think the number in the end will wind up around 15-20%. It took years but it’s hard to find the OJ is innocent crowd anymore – these people are the political equivalent.

Wonder how many Americans know the number Iraqis killed (documented and estimated) or the number of Iraqi refugees and displaced because of their presidents illegal war.

I took that Pew news quiz and apparently my “news IQ” is higher than 83% of Americans. And I’m not even American. I flunked on the economy questions

Just took it myself. my “news IQ” is higher than 91% of the general public. The only one I got wrong was the DOW JONES industrial average…

  18. Charles James Napier says:

The Pew poll also found that 53 percent of Americans think the U.S. will ultimately achieve its goals in Iraq.

    That’s good news right?

Success means getting our troops and contractors out and leaving Iraq. So yes, we want the US to succeed.

  21. backup says:

Although Iraq topped the list of the public’s most closely followed news stories in all but five weeks during the first half of 2007, according to Pew’s research, interest fell rapidly in the fall, and Iraq has not held the top spot since October. That corresponded with a sharp drop in the rate of U.S. casualties in Iraq and increased news coverage of the U.S. presidential campaign.

How many more have suffered brain damage, loss of limbs, loss of sight, and loss of hearing? How many will suffer the rest of their lives with hobble of PTSD? All for non-existent WMD and fictional connections between Saddam and Al Qaida.

  23. mcavalletto says:

The headline/summary here is reversed — the article states that “Twenty-eight percent of the public is aware that nearly 4,000 U.S. personnel have died in Iraq…”

    ***********************************************

I just took the quiz and got all twelve questions right, along with (apparently) only 3% of all Americans. According to the website, the national average is only about 6 out of 12 correct answers. Good grief — that’s not just pathetic, that’s frightening. What makes it even worse is that the questions are multiple-choice, meaning that you have a 25% chance of choosing the right answer purely by chance. To top it all off, at least in my estimation, most of these questions were unbelievably easy — such as “Can you name the Chairman of the Democratic National Committee”? As far as I can tell, you have to be very nearly comatose in order to get fewer than three-fourths of the questions right.

That’s 4,000 that has died in Iraq.
My bet is that over 10,000 U.S. troops are dead from Iraq, and probably another 15,000 missing body parts.

Here’s Your Score: You correctly answered 12 of the 12 possible questions along with approximately 3% of the public. You did better than 97% of the general public.

Yea,backed up, there are alot of tools like you that don’t care about nothing but their favorite sporting event or what britney’s doing. But most folks understand $5.00/gallon gas and higher cost on all shipped goods.

  30. 2MillionLightYearsToAndromeda says:

THEY JUST CANNOT GET ENOUGH DEATH!

…An Associated Press poll in February found that the average American believed about 9,900 Iraqis had been killed since the end of major combat operations in 2003. Recent evidence suggests that things in Iraq may be 100 times worse than Americans realize.

…Finally, last month, the respected British polling firm ORB released the results of a poll estimating that 22 percent of (Iraqi) households had lost a member to violence during the occupation of Iraq, equating to 1.2 million deaths.

…So multiple polls and scientific surveys all suggest the official figures and media-based estimates in Iraq have missed 70 percent to 95 percent of all deaths. The evidence suggests that the extent of underreporting by the media is only increasing with time.
