THEY JUST CANNOT GET ENOUGH DEATH!

…An Associated Press poll in February found that the average American believed about 9,900 Iraqis had been killed since the end of major combat operations in 2003. Recent evidence suggests that things in Iraq may be 100 times worse than Americans realize.

…Finally, last month, the respected British polling firm ORB released the results of a poll estimating that 22 percent of (Iraqi) households had lost a member to violence during the occupation of Iraq, equating to 1.2 million deaths.

…So multiple polls and scientific surveys all suggest the official figures and media-based estimates in Iraq have missed 70 percent to 95 percent of all deaths. The evidence suggests that the extent of underreporting by the media is only increasing with time.

** I posted this piece many times awhile back. I realize I need to keep posting it for the many newbies here.

Yea,backed up, there are alot of tools like you that don't care about nothing but their favorite sporting event or what britney's doing. But most folks understand $5.00/gallon gas and higher cost on all shipped goods.

I took that Pew news quiz and apparently my “news IQ” is higher than 83% of Americans. And I’m not even American. I flunked on the economy questions

Here's Your Score: You correctly answered 12 of the 12 possible questions along with approximately 3% of the public. You did better than 97% of the general public.

That's 4,000 that has died in Iraq.
My bet is that over 10,000 U.S. troops are dead from Iraq, and probably another 15,000 missing body parts.

Wonder how many Americans know the number Iraqis killed (documented and estimated) or the number of Iraqi refugees and displaced because of their presidents illegal war.

I took that Pew news quiz and apparently my “news IQ” is higher than 83% of Americans. And I’m not even American. I flunked on the economy questions -- Galmud

***********************************************

I just took the quiz and got all twelve questions right, along with (apparently) only 3% of all Americans. According to the website, the national average is only about 6 out of 12 correct answers. Good grief -- that's not just pathetic, that's frightening. What makes it even worse is that the questions are multiple-choice, meaning that you have a 25% chance of choosing the right answer purely by chance. To top it all off, at least in my estimation, most of these questions were unbelievably easy -- such as "Can you name the Chairman of the Democratic National Committee"? As far as I can tell, you have to be very nearly comatose in order to get fewer than three-fourths of the questions right.

Although Iraq topped the list of the public's most closely followed news stories in all but five weeks during the first half of 2007, according to Pew's research, interest fell rapidly in the fall, and Iraq has not held the top spot since October. That corresponded with a sharp drop in the rate of U.S. casualties in Iraq and increased news coverage of the U.S. presidential campaign.

Wonder how many Americans know the number Iraqis killed (documented and estimated) or the number of Iraqi refugees and displaced because of their presidents illegal war.

I took that Pew news quiz and apparently my "news IQ" is higher than 83% of Americans. And I'm not even American. I flunked on the economy questions

This has nothing to do with the fact that the war news is off the front pages of newspapers, and barely given note on the news networks.
The ill-informed public suffers from ADD, and the lack of journalism plays a large role in the ignorance.
The corporate moguls in charge of the news and information reaching the public have determined that pretty faces, well-coiffed heads and repetition of gossip, he said/she said reporting are more suitable to their profit motives.
Meanwhile, 4000 families will never be the same; tens of thousands of wounded vets will never be the same; the toll of those suffering from the invisible psychological scars of this war has yet to be determined -- our children and grandchildren will be seeing that statistic.
The Bushies and their minions will continue to lie and twist facts; they will continue to keep the truth hidden; they will continue to support the shredding of the Constitution -- and the 30% brain-dead of the population will applaud.

And nearly 50% of Americans still believe Iraq had something to do with 9-11. We all pretty much agree that Bush is dumb. But when push comes to shove, Americans can dumb themselves down faster than anyone.
