There is no push for conservation, which would decrease cost by lowering demand. Is it beyond reason, that Americans would accept lower speed limits, as we had during the oil embargo during President Carter’s term? Would Americans refuse to consider advice to consolidate errands and share rides, and develop and utilize public transport or perhaps do a bit more walking?

We’re paying for a war with borrowed money, and only feel the burden indirectly. So we ignore the cost. I think that we need to wake up a do what we can do immediately, and for the future, to reverse the trend for ever greater energy consumption, as we simultaneously develop clean, renewable homegrown supplies.

And we need energetic leadership to inspire citizens who thoughtlessly consume, and then complain. Perhaps W is not the only one who is simple.
