Bush’s order ‘barely made a dent’ in FOIA backlog.

A new study by the National Security Archive finds that despite “ordering improvements more than two years ago, President Bush has barely made a dent in the huge backlog of unanswered requests under the Freedom of Information Act.” Of government agencies with backlogs, “31 percent even saw pending requests rise during the two years.”

As if anyone would expect anything other than such an outcome…

  2. Ms_Joanne says:

What hasn’t been burned MIGHT make the light of day only after this criminal regime leaves office (if they don’t suspend elections and install martial law).

Only then MIGHT the FOIA be restored to functionality. Especially if a dem is elected…the goopers will scream to high heaven if they don’t comply, because IOKIYAR.

  3. brently says:

They can’t oblige those requests. If they did, they would give too much away regarding 9/11. This country is going straight into the shitter and nobody in the press seems to care.

  4. Merlin says:

As John Dean said; this is the most secretive administration ever! Expect the Dems in 2009 to have to replace every paper shredder in the government.

  5. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

I really do wish there was some way that we could stop them from destroying the evidence of their misdeeds. Maybe there are loyal Americans working for this government who are copying files and then keeping them for the future Democratic president. We need to know about all the crimes that have been committed to be able to start the healing process.

So the order is working just the way the Chimp meant it to work.

    Well stated!!

Red Herrings! They are everywhere! The corporate controlled media with its bought and sold “talking heads,” speak as one to distract and confuse. They have reached the pinnacle of success as we can see every day. It took the corporate right 30 years to do it, but they have succeeded magnificently. We, the people, have a tremendous amount of work to do to unravel this Gordian Knot called the corporate media!

    Hi Zooey!…

    Exactly! Well stated!
No disconnect from reality, no stupidity, no ignorance! That they botched it up is no problem for them. It is easily fixed with more of the same.

    This backlog is killing Democracy.

    Hi, Merlin. :)

I used to think they did these things because they were stupid. Now I know they do it because they’re not interested in governing or democracy. They’re interested in power and profit — above all else.

INDICT IMPEACH IMPRISON BUSH CHENNEY & Co.!

  12. WaltTheMan says:

If NMcCain does not make it, every computer in the White House will be given a deep format of its harddrives on the night of January 19th, 2009. Cheney’s man size-safes will also experience exposure to thermite bombs that same night.

  13. cerberus says:

His orders mean nothing. They’re just smoke and mirrors.

  14. cerberus says:

Walt: Would that be on the order of Building 7 at WTC and what occurred there? I think we can count on it.

  15. ForTruth says:

The Supreme Court will let Cheney off.

    Now back to topic.

Time is wayyyyyy past to impeach.

  17. pete says:

Well, in the Chimperror’s case, I don’t think the vapidity and instability are an act. No one is smart enough to act that syupid.

  19. Gregor Samsa says:

Not that this administration actually wanted any information to come under scrutiny: The public might find out what every one of them has been up to, all these years.

  20. katy says:

just finished watching “JOHN ADAMS”… powerful… engrossing… enlightening!

one beautiful example of relevancy: during one meeting of the continental congress, a proclamation from king george was read, after which the president of the congress says, as is protocol, “god save the king”…

and one of the representatives (which? my memory is so bad), replies, sternly,
    loudly, “god DAMN the king!”

and the ball went rolling, nonstop, from there…

    fantastic movie…
but, damn the king’s english! it takes a while to get used to!
    ha!

maybe our own congress took the time to watch their history also…
    g’nite all…

  21. RUCerious says:

Freedom of information has gone the same place our fourth amendment rights went. Away.

  22. fletc3her says:

Even if Bush honestly wanted to clear up the FOIA backlog, I doubt he’s competent enough to order something like that properly.

  23. jb says:

There is so much dirt swept under the rug by this administration the rug looks like a mountain.

  25. osage says:

I believe the Bush administration started out lying in a desperate attempt to hide their incompetencies to avoid political consequences. Eventually, the only way to hide their incompetencies and prevent their lies from becoming known, was to ignore and or violate laws, which they needed to cover-up to avoid political consequences. Like a child who tells a lie to avoid punishment, when accused of lying the child either has to take his/her punishment or tell another lie, and another lie, and another lie. The Bush administration’s incompetence was so profound that it led to lying, ignoring and or violating laws and covering up what they’d done to prevent poltical consequences and legal jeopardy. In effect, for the want of competence the Bush administration was lost. Of course, there are those who believe that the only thing the Bush adminstration is good at is making a bad situation into a catastrophic one. In fact, one could make the case that it’s their standard MO.

  26. just john says:

Next year, we’re going to be hearing a lot of “Why are people still going after Bush?”

And the answer will be that it was set up by the Bushies themselves, by creating the backlog in the first place.

So prepare for the whinefest from that camp.

  27. williamf says:

Bush doesn’t want a dent in the FOIA backlog. He and his gang fear legitimate information and its power. They fear it because the information would nail him and his crew for criminal acts. ‘Nuff said.
