On Saturday, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) spoke to a group of Minnesota GOP. During that speech, reports the West Sherburne Tribune, Bachmann highlighted the progress in Iraq, stating that God is on the side of America in the war:
What our service men and women have accomplished over there has been nothing short of astounding. Though you never hear about it in the media. God has not abandoned us.
Bachmann also said that global warming is “all voodoo, nonsense, hokum, a hoax.”
Yep, you can always count on Michele Bachman to bring Teh Crazy.

YIKES!!
March 17th, 2008 at 3:15 pmI just posted this on the McCain thread but, for some strange reason, no seems to be on that thread (is it the scary picture?):
‘CNN’s Kyra Phillips speaks to some Iraqi soldiers about the U.S. presidential election and democracy in Iraq. While they spoke enthusiastically about the American soldiers teaching them discipline and how to effectively combat their enemies in Iraq, the soldiers were less effusive in their praise for those managing the war and their plans for bringing about democracy. Phillips tried in vain to locate any McCain supporters among the group.
“Just to be perfectly clear here, I did ask them are you following any of the republican candidates?…Do you want to talk about John McCain? Within that whole group, not one wanted a republican in the US presidential seat. They were all for a democrat. They were all for that type of change because they said they were living a republican war.”’

March 17th, 2008 at 4:09 pmFACT, the majority of Iraqis want the occupation to end, so this fundamentalist war monger , contradicts her own position .
March 17th, 2008 at 4:11 pmI’m sure she says also , ” we are bringing them democracy “.
WELL, if they have a REAL democracy , they have a right to tell the U.S. to get out . Even if they didn’t have a democracy , they have a human right , to not live under a foreign occupation .
This lying psychotic fundamentalist , fails to mention there were NO WMDs , bush’s reason for invading a destroyed country and to say U.S. troops did an outstanding job in Iraq , is ludicrous .
Iraq’s military was half destroyed before the invasion from the first gulf war, constant bombing and sanctions, so defeating them was like killing a kid in a wheel chair .
Now what you have left is not a war, but a RESISTANCE to U.S. occupation , period.

And her as VP would be priceless. I’d pay to see that!
March 17th, 2008 at 4:11 pmHaving been quoted in the story as saying that the media picked McCain, I doubt there would be much interest in the veep spot. Besides, Johnny seems to prefer bottle blonds.
Based on the platform outlined in the article — seven of 17 bullet points devoted to immigration and a pledge to defend the right of Minnesotans “to be free from government-imposed health care systems and universal coverage policies” I suspect Frau Bachmann passes for normal at the local bund meeting.

This is probably a better translation that the King James “Thou shalt not kill.”
Exodus 20
13 “You shall not murder.” (NIV)
It’s clear in the Old Testament that killing and murdering are not the same thing just as they aren’t the same thing today.
Don’t believe there is a reason to assume Exodus 20:13 is excluding killing in war.
This is bitblt’s opinion, and this comment is about the Bible, not about present day politics.
In the New Testament book of Matthew Christ makes it clear that the attitude that would cause one to hate someone enough to murder is also wrong. Christ was interested in both actions and attitudes.
March 17th, 2008 at 4:19 pm“Bachmann highlighted the progress in Iraq, stating that God is on the side of America in the war”
– Yes, I understand that Jesus was very big on picking fights with others, especially pre-emptive attacks (snark)
“What our service men and women have accomplished over there has been nothing short of astounding.”
– Wonderful! It’s about time we got some astounding accomplishment over there — I know this will be good for the morale of the troops. I don’t suppose Ms. Bachmann would care to give us some specific details about these astounding accomplishments? Or is she just parroting the party blather, hoping it will stick?
“Though you never hear about it in the media.”
– Wow, you’d think that if there were astounding accomplishments, the media would be all over it. Especially Fox News. Yet Fox News spends less time reporting on Iraq than the other news outlets. Why is this?
“God has not abandoned us.”
– God will never abandon us, even when we do things that might not be pleasing to Him (like exploiting His name to justify abuse of power, foreign policy like a playground bully, and beating up other people whom God will not abandon).
Bachmann also said that global warming is “all voodoo, nonsense, hokum, a hoax.”
March 17th, 2008 at 4:24 pm– I think that statement pretty much speaks for itself. Just more blather with no scientific evidence.
Bachmann also said that Michelle Bachman is “all voodoo, nonsense, hokum, a hoax.”

March 17th, 2008 at 4:54 pm“Doesn’t speak very well of the people of Minnesota.”
Minnesota is one of the most progressive and educated states in America. Bachmann won in a district that is primarily rural. Minnesota is the only state which Reagan lost in both his presidential campaigns. Both Bushes also lost here. The only reason Norm Coleman won is the sudden death of Paul Wellstone late in the campaign.

So shouldn’t the Islam be victorious over us ?
March 17th, 2008 at 5:37 pmThis woman couldn’t be a bigger nut if she tried. And she certainly is not helping the case for Christianity if she is saying that God would have approved the slaughter of over a million people so that one country could try to steal oil from another country. It’s a pretty well-known fact, actually. Muslims, Christians, and Jews worship the same God. They all have a different perspective on Him and call Him different names, but it’s the same deity. The Qur’an builds on the New Testament just as the New Testament builds on the Torah.
March 17th, 2008 at 6:08 pmPeople domestic and international do not die in large numbers because of a progressive agenda in America. You cannot say that about the republican agenda….sorry…stick to facts…..you are the party of death….not progressives.
March 17th, 2008 at 6:25 pmActually, the “progressive” movement has one, overriding, goal. A return to accountability in our government. Since Ms. Bachmann is only answerable to the voices in her head, she doesn’t fit in with our plan.
March 17th, 2008 at 6:31 pmWhile Minnesota certainly has some GOP influence for various reasons (the poor are the “other” and segmented off, deserving little money and attention in some areas, for one) it is a liberal state and there has been a lot of progress, with dozens of shifts and holds in 2006.
Unfortunately, it has attracted some nasty drones parroting not their own more logical brand of Republican politics, but intense Bush rhetoric. Coleman, Pawlenty, Bachmann… all “in” and an affront to the state, with little to say for themselves other than folksy garbage.

March 18th, 2008 at 12:44 amSince when does Bachmann have a “Red Phone” to God? She’s no a theologian, she’s a politician — the world’s second oldest profession and almost as far away from heaven as someone can possibly get even without breaking the law, in my opinion.
To a rational person with at least two functioning brain cells to rub together, the phrase “God is on our side” is about on a par with “the Devil made me do it’ — nothing more than a convenient blanket self-rationalization, and a rather flimsy one at that. In much the same way that most people who say “the Devil made me do it” are trying to avoid accepting responsibility for their own behavior, saying “God is on our side” is a feeble attempt to avoid any potentially negative consequences of our actions — because nothing that we do (such as say, torture?) could ever possibly be bad or evil or wrong because God wouldn’t be on our side if it wasn’t…right?
God is on our side because everything we do is okay, and everything we do is okay because God is on our side. Talk about circular — not to mention remarkably convenient — reasoning (more like magical or wishful thinking if you ask me)…
