Bolton Says Cheney Has ‘Enormous Credibility’ In Iraq, But Iraqis Suggest Otherwise

bolton-03-17web2.jpgAs the Iraq war’s fifth anniversary approaches, Vice President Dick Cheney arrived in Baghdad today on an unannounced trip to meet with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, Gen. David Petraeus, and Amb. Ryan Crocker. Cheney said he seeks to reaffirm “the unwavering commitment” of the U.S. in Iraq.

Commenting on the surprise visit, conservative war hawk and former U.N. ambassador John Bolton said Cheney can make the Iraqis “get their act together” because he has “enormous credibility” in Iraq:

“He’s got enormous credibility there, and is able to say to them in words of one syllable that they need to get their act together,” John Bolton, the former UN ambassador, said.

Of course Bolton offered no evidence of any such “credibility.” In fact, some Iraqis have expressed displeasure at the possibility of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) winning the White House because of his oft-stated position that he’ll carry on the Bush/Cheney war in Iraq. The New York Times reports:

“If the Republicans win the election, then nothing will really change in Iraq, and we need a big change to kick the occupiers out of the country,” said Abu Mohammed, a 30-year-old barbershop owner in Samarra, north of Baghdad. “I would like to show him the schools and hospitals and how the children and women suffer.”

Another Samarra shop owner, 52-year-old Hamid Saleh, said he wanted the Republicans to lose the election. “All I want is someone who works to fix my country, and not destroy it,” he said.

Indeed, that sentiment mirrors the results of an ABC/BBC/ARD/NHK poll released today. While the poll results suggest a “flicker of optimism” in the war-torn country, it also found that Iraqis oppose the U.S. presence in Iraq while a majority said Bush’s “surge” has “made overall security worse“:

72 percent strongly or somewhat oppose the presence of Coalition forces in Iraq.

61 percent believe the presence of U.S. forces in Iraq is making the security situation worse.

The reality is that Cheney, Bolton, Bush, McCain and the rest of those who support a continued and indefinite U.S. war in Iraq have zero credibility.

The only thing that these people have is enormous chutzpah…and they are still making up their own facts/reality. I suppose it still works for 30% of the American sheeple.

Yeah, well, Bolton also says that Bush is a great president, scotch is a health drink, onion dip is good for you and Lincoln only chose advisors who agreed with him.

    So consider the source.

Well, what else did you expect from a sucker?

And Bolton is a class “A” sucker, who thought his own agenda would be necessitated, when we ignored the UN and went to war in Iraq. Now he’s been marginalized, and forced to play the cranky old coot from his perch at the AEI aviary.

The Administration will be credible when…

~ They find those WMD’s besides forged documents to back their assertions up.
~ They have competent intelligence, not just the intelligence they want(read: Fife’s incompetent intelligence)
~ They find the lost links to Saddam to Al-CIA-duh
~ When they can be greeted by the Iraqis as liberators sans the body armor and phalanx of security just to buy a floor mat.

  16. MCMetal says:

If Dickhead Cheney supposedly has all this “credibility” as Bolton stupidly claims he does , how come Cheney is visiting Iraq unannounced ?

  17. The Shadow says:

Mr Bolton has no creditability nor does his idol Mr. Cheney. Both men as cowards who like to fight wars with others actually doing the fighting. Neither man served his country during Viet Nam, but now that they are too old to fighting they have become war hawks. It’s that just convient for them? I could understand John McCain being tough because he actually was a fighter pilot during the war. But even that doesn’t give anyone license to be stupid.

Just look at us spending 12 billion dollars a month in Iraq with no results or return on our money and people wonder why the economy is in shambles. Only a bunch of fools (republican voters) are willing to follow another idiot off the cliff. If they think it’s bad now, just elect another jerk who doesn’t know anything about the economy. We don’t need another (one trick pony) to run this country. That kind of act belongs in a circus, not heading our government. Any fool can get into a stupid war and stay there regardless of the facts. You’d think after serving in Viet Nam, John McCain would have better sense than to want to stay in Iraq for 100 years.

Ash yourself what would have happened if we stayed in Viet Nam for 100 years? That’s right? We’d still be spending billions of dollars with no end in sight. Please don’t tell me that the majority of the American people are that stupid. There’s another good question I have to the idiots who support the war. That is, what will we have to show for it once it’s finally over? That’ right “My friends”, nothing. Just a bunch of dead soldiers to remember and trillions of wasted dollars that could have been spent on American taxpayers.

    Cheney: “Shut the fu&k up.”

    Yep, all one syllable words.

Let’s assume Bolton is right, and all we needed to do to let the Iraqis know to get their act together was send Cheney over, I have to ask, why did this incompentent administration wait so long to do so? Oh wait, I answered my own question.

Nonsense! You just coined a new term. Incompetent + Unrepentant = Incompentent.

I, for one, am a great fan of this new term and look forward to using it in all applicable instances.

  24. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

Wow, those poll numbers are impressive. But they will have just about as much impact on what goes on in Iraq as the poll numbers here have. It is interesting, though, that just about the same number of people in Iraq want us out as in this country who want us out. Unfortunately neither country’s government gives a flying fcuk what their people want. As long as there is money to be made on both sides of the fence (the corrupt Maliki government is making money hand over fist) neither government is going to pull do anything about getting us out of Iraq.

Hopefully the sheeple in this country know that the only way to get us out of Iraq will be to elect a Democratic President and a huge Democratic majority in Congress.

  25. The Republic of Stupidity says:

Why do we need to be in Iraq for 100 years?

The way we go thru oil, it’s only going to last 25, mebbe 30 years tops.

And then, we’ll be leavin’ faster than a GOOPer senator runnin’ offin’ from a DC whorehouse in dawn’s first light. And we’ll prolly short change the Iraqis too.

    (pay them in DOLLARS… BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…)

  26. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

We would be out of Iraq today if they had only cooperated with us and turned over 70% of their oil profits for 30 years. What’s wrong with those people? Where is their gratitude for everything we have done for them?

I think the “100 years” figure comes from KBR, who thinks they can bilk the American taxpayers for that long.

Bolton is over the rainbow, around the bend, a couple bricks shy of a full load, not running on all cylinders nuts, as in bat-s*** crazy.

Neocons think they make their own reality, so do schizophrenics and psychotics.

    Liberalism’s Tragic Soul

#54 3rd Jan, 2008 When I was in seventh grade metal shop, my teacher, Mr. Taylor, announced that only two students were going to be allowed to weld; the rest of us would be using the metal bending equipment, mills, and other steel working machinery to build our projects, but these two students would be welding them together for us.

It seems to me having some introductory welding experience would be a reasonable part of a metal working curriculum and all the students should have been introduced to the art, but I digress…

Our class only had two slots for welders and the teacher was looking for volunteers. When one of the students in the back pointed up front to where I was sitting and suggested the kid sitting next to me would be a good welder, Mr. Taylor, pointed to me and laughed, “That little guy, that’s ridiculous.”

Earlier in the year this venerable instructor had explained to us the tenure system and how he had arrived at the highest pay grade, $35,000.00 a year. After the “little guy” comment which I probably took way too personally, I could only think—one way or the other I am going to figure out how to make in a day what you make in a year…dickhead.

It goes on to say that if you don’t see this as the best way to live that you are damaged goods….heh…irony abounds.

Most of these neocons seem to be repressed homosexuals.
They would probably be saner if they would come out of the closet and accept themselves.
Also it’s amazing how none of these chickenhawks have any military experience at all, let alone combat experience.
