Poll: 74 percent think U.S. in recession.

A new CNN poll finds that 74 percent of the American public believes the U.S. economy is already in a recession, “up from 66 percent who felt that way in a similar survey last month.” Fifty-three percent say the recession “will last more than a year.”

Well this so-called “American public” is obviously just buying the propaganda put out by the doom-and-gloom media. If they just spent their time looking at funny cat pictures instead of reading the news, there’d be no recession!!!

Yes. And another 30% think it’s a “moderate recession” and 16% think it’s a “mild recession.”

Wanna tell me what word those all have in common?

HINT: It’s not “serious,” “moderate,” or “mild.”

Pollsters also predicted that Obama would win California by double digits. That is just one recent example of why I don’t put too much weight in them.

that sea of debt had one real purpose: hide the fact that income for most are stagnating.

I never tire of posting this graph of the “W economy”, because it summarises in a nutshell what happened: growth happened, but did not trickle down to the middle classes, let alone the poor. Thanks to wage stagnation, made possible by the threats of outsourcing and offshorisation, and by the demonisation, emasculation or dismantlement of regulations and institutions (like unions) protecting workers, the fruits of growth have been captured by a very few – and this has been hidden because consumption was propped up by readily available debt and the apparently growing virtual wealth of homeowners.

    6. Joe. I still don’t put much faith in them, but if TP is going to bring up part of a poll, it is fair game to point out the missing details.

On the upside, TP has stopped talking about the National POTUS polls since McCain took the lead.

    flop

good_golly references only one poll showing favorably for mccain. Most are still leaning for either Obama or Clinton in favor of mccain and that is despite the fact that mccain has no campaining going on against him at present……how do you think it will look when that changes…

gg please notice that only two of the polls listed on the folling link show what you state(and then only barely)……all others show the opposite. Please try to be reasonable or you will be called on your lies each and every time….and it is so easy.

I love the way the lockstep morons believe in polls when they reflect something they want; disavow them when they’re outed. Their transparency is laughable.

  22. cerberus says:

#24 Don’t believe any of the McCrazy polls at all if they have him neck in neck with the dem candidate. It’s all part and parcel of the GOP plan to hijack the coming election – again! In order for them to do their evil work, the pre-election polls must be a dead heat; otherwise, the people will realize that they’ve been shafted and will storm the Bastille.

  23. Xisithrus says:

When you adjust for inflation its undeniable we are in a recession that will get worse the more Bernanke inflates the dollar.

And so I ask good-golly, what good did those tax cuts do if your dollar has devalued by 40%? The tax cut was only 5%.

Now, does it occur to you good_golly, that debsing the dollar is a hidden tax increase? Why, your own party screwed you, vote for McCain and youll get more of the same.

  24. cerberus says:

“The economy is strong and resilient” and “there is no civil war in Iraq” – both lies from the liar in chief. If he thinks that everyone is living in his unrealistic fantasy bubble, he’s sadly mistaken.

What shocks me is that he didn’t use his hackneyed old favorite word “resolve” in these two statements. Trust me, he’ll get it in there on the next one.

  25. Xisithrus says:

With the corporate fascist media doing the polling, I fear that they’re getting their ducks in a row early and setting their election tampering gremlins into motion as we type….Those Opti-Scan machines are almost as bad as the DRE’s. There’s a paper trail but will cost about $100,000 to hand count the ballots so it’s still a no-brainer and still totally hackable.

Yes, Diebold is based on Windows CE and as such is prone to all kinds of monkey business. But a very high democratic turnout would make it alot harder.

The election will be a bloodbath for GG’s team.

If you ask me, this whole thing (the war, the economy, the executive orders, the state secrets, the warrentless wiretapping) is nothing but theft of money. Personally I’d say about half of American’s money has been stolen. But hey I’m no economist, I just make a music tv show.

Here’s another scoop on the Financial Crisis. (if you don’t want to call it recession–why not just call it what it is–theft.)

well, when the price of a sugar doughnut doubled overnight (along with the price of gas) , the pot holes are still in the road after 2 years (even in the expensive neighborhood), and the job you had for 20 years got outsourced to India, I’d say the economic outlooks not to bright…

  52. sacxtra says:

Take note that every time Bush or the White House in this (Current Administration) says something..hell anything, that the truth is usually the opposite.

So when he says there’s no problem with our economy, the opposite is true.

With all these cracked electronic vote tabulation devices, and super delegates deciding the candidates and the electoral college the actual winner we effectively now live in a fascist dictatorship. Your constitutional right to vote is effectively nullified.

  53. Willy says:

  54. missmolly says:

I notice that a lot of people are bickering over the word “recession”. If three quarters of the country are feeling the pain, does it really matter what we call it?

    To ggs #2, above.

To the 71% who don’t think it’s serious, two things.
One, give it a month or two, and then tell me it ain’t serious.
Two, I have this lovely bridge I’d like to sell you.

It does make me wonder what the view was like eighty years ago as the economy crashed and burned into a decade-long wreck.
