Bush taps Wainstein as new homeland security adviser.

The AP is reporting that this week, President Bush will be appointing Kenneth Wainstein to be his new homeland security adviser, replacing Frances Fragos Townsend. Wainstein currently heads the Justice Department’s anti-terror efforts and has been a strong supporter of the administration’s wiretapping. At the lavish farewell ceremony for Alberto Gonzales, Wainstein was unabashed in his praise for the loyal Bushie, stating, “He gave us the authority to conduct comprehensive oversight on all aspects of national security investigation.”

Update Newsweek reports that the White House had trouble filling this position, repeatedly being rebuffed by top candidates, including Army Gen. John Abizaid. One official "involved in the recruitment process" called it a "friggin' embarrassment."
Update During today's press briefing, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino announced, "Today President Bush is pleased to announce that he has selected Kenneth L. Wainstein to serve as assistant to the president for homeland security and counterterrorism."

  6. PatrioticLiberalChristian says:

Given Bush’s popularity rating, he would have to appoint a “quarter” horse.

Too bad Himmler and Goebbels are dead. They would have been a perfect fit.

I’d say a dried pile of horse shit would be more apropos.

So he is reaching down to the second and third tier to find someone to be on his team — what a leader! People can’t run away fast enough from the loser-in-chief.
Only other losers need show up; suck up to the boy-king and earn a slot on his roster of sycophants.

When the CEO can’t even fill six-figure positions within his own company, it’s time for the board to oust him.

That reminded me of “Meet the Parents”.

“Oh sure, you can milk anything with nipples.”

    “Could you milk me Fokker?”

Someone blow a limb off a mallard and send it to the West Wing. Maybe it’ll be a well received replacement, and the chymp can go cut brush in Crawfish, TX.

Comprehensive oversight? Wainstein’s predecessor, Fran Townsend, didn’t oversee the White House response to Hurricance Katrina in the least. She was on a plane to Saudi Arabia. Her “robust” investigative report was nothing of the sort. It failed to mention the hospital with largest death toll post landfall, LifeCare. The Carlyle Group purchased LifeCare just weeks before Katrina struck.

It’s a good thing Kenneth is a lawyer, because someday, this department will have its day in court over Katrina. Carlyle’s defense for those patient deaths? “It’s the feds fault.” That should compel some testimony. Is that why Fran resigned? Are some of those wrongful death lawsuits coming up? Should that be the case, Kenneth Wainstein saw how Alberto Gonzalez testified. Let’s hope Ken does a hair better.

Well, come on, to be fair, there is a finite supply of leg-humping toadies out there. Chimpy has already gone through his rolodex three or four times, and his sycophants have started moving on to the private sector where they can cash in these “Bush Administration” poker chips for some REAL money.

So basically, Bush is left with a dwindling candidate pool for jobs like this. He started with right-wing Cronies (a substantial pool of applicants) but now he’s down to right-wing Cronies who are also saps. Or right-wing Cronies who feel most comfortable living off the government teat and are thus hypocrites. (Oh, wait, I already pretty much said hypocrites when I said right-wing Cronies, didn’t I?)

  19. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

No one, not even Bush sycophants, wants to be associated with this losing team.

  20. Zimzone says:

He’ll probably be very busy, seeing as how Chertoff has to attend all those meetings in Israel.

Incompetence will always be the Bush cabal’s middle name.

    Worst. Administration. Ever.

  21. SP Biloxi says:

    “friggin’ embarrassment.”

That certainly is a description of the Bush as the President and his legacy. Daddy Bush may be think it is friggin embarrassment for his son to carry his first name. Daddy Bush should have named him Buck.
