Gay and lesbian activists staged a rally yesterday against Sally Kern, the Oklahoma state representative who said gays are a “bigger threat” to our nation than terrorism and would be the “death knell” of this country. Kern has “vowed not to apologize for her remarks,” and she avoided the rally of about 300 people at the state Capitol yesterday. Kern told an Oklahoma paper that she will use “different analogies” next time:
“The message of my speech would not change,” she said. “I might use different analogies.
“Just the fact that you’re talking about an agenda that someone has does not mean that you hate them,” Kern said.
Robin Meyers, senior minister at Mayflower Congregational Church in Oklahoma City, said Kern’s homophobic comments are a “national embarrassment for Oklahoma.” “It is frightening to me that Sally Kern is an elected official doing the people’s business,” he said.

“Just the fact that you’re talking about an agenda that someone has does not mean that you hate them,” Kern said.

OK, let me get this straight. You are saying that sex is necessary for procreation and it is for this reason that homosexuality is morally and ethically wrong. Does this mean that heterosexual sex between a husband and wife, unless it is specifically for procreation, is also wrong? Do you believe that birth control methods should not be employed? Do you believe that sex between a husband and wife should only occur at the optimum time of conception? Do you believe that once either the husband or wife is incapable of procreation that all sex must cease?
If this is the case, we don’t need to worry about the “gay agenda” — the heterosexuals have already lost the war. Think of all the married couples using birth control because they either choose not to have children, or have already had all the children they want. Think of all the post-menopausal women still enjoying sex with their husbands. Think of aging men with low sperm counts still enjoying sex with their wives.

That’s actually two concepts and Christ says so Himself in Matthew. He says to love God is the first greatest commandment and to love you neighbor is the second greatest commandment, but your are correct that He says this is the essence of the Mosaic Law. Believe the implied message here is that one can’t do the second greatest command without doing the first greatest command.
You might want to check out Leviticus 19:18 and the preceding verses. Verses 18 is important because when the Lord states the Gold Rule this is what He is quoting.
Here for your convenience is what it says:

Since verse 18 is the basis for the Golden Rule I assume that these other verses offer clarification of verse 18.
Note verse 17 says don’t hate you brother in your heart, and then it says, correct him when he does wrong. These are not contrary actions.
To illustrate children who go undisciplined are the ones who are unloved.

Because the Hebrew people, just freed from slavery and about to enter the country where pagan worship and exploitative social behavior was accepted needed guidance. The Baal worshippers engaged in sexual rites, homosexual and heterosexual acts divorced from love, to honor their god. Note that all of the commandments are about respecting and loving God and others, nothing about homosexuality because that is not what was concerned about. You’d have a TON more credibility if you would give a chapter and verse whenever you make a claim that such-and-such is in the bible.
Are you talking about Romans 1:26-27? Here’s that text:
“Because of this [idolatry], God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.”
This passage is probably only second to Leviticus 18 and 20 in its use as justification for anti-gay bigotry. Yet, if you take a look at it, you will notice that GOD MADE these people gay as punishment for idolatry. These were heterosexuals who became inflamed with lust for members of the same sex because God made it so. Why would this be a punishment? For the very reason you described earlier — it would eliminate procreation, essentially eliminating a man’s lineage. This was a far bigger thing in those days than it is now.
The passage does not condemn people for practicing homosexuality. The passage describes punishment for idolatry.

I don’t agree with what she said or how she said it, but the First Amendment is a right, even for rigth-wing politicians who use social/religious views as political footballs; That while Asexual reproduction, homosexuality, and bi-sexuality do exist in the broader natural world and it has been discovered that there maybe genes that PREDISPOSE, NOT DETERMINE, a human to a certain orientaton that maybe more feminine or masculine, homosexuality is an anomaly (in other words an exception to the rule, NOT the rule) in the natural world. Why? because one of the chief concerns of any species after their specific survival, is to pass on their genes to another generation. One may argue then, using science, that homosexuality in the animal kingdom is therefore nothing but weakness of genes. That may be plausible, but predisposition DOES NOT EQUAL actually BEING Homosexual. NO gene that means a human will definitely BE homosexuality has been found, so therefore it can further be inferred (and please excuse me if my choice of words keep sending you to the dictionary) that one who has genes that predispose him/her to be more feminine or masculine, it is that person’s CHOICE whether he/she is going to be homosexual or not. And, I might add, it has been medically, and psychologically, and socialogically shown in many different studies, that the choice of being homosexual is a result of: his/her conditioning based on familial and social responses toward that person’s femininity or masculinity when he/she was a child (prepubescence and teenage years); or sexual abuse; or phsychological and physical abuse; or any combinations there of. In conclusion, 1.) homosexuality is a choice (whether through positve or negative conditoning) 2.) and I and anyone else DONOT have to respect that choice! If one chooses that lifestyle, DO NOT try to push me into believing that you had NO CHOICE (unless you were under severe duress or abuse was severe) in being that way, and, DO NOT berate, belittle or try to shut me up when I, or anyone else, publically disagree with or put out our opinions based on known facts!!!!!!!!!!!! And fear can easily drive one to hate. (Do you hate things like bees? Because you’re afraid of them, right? Or any other creature that gives you the willies. Do you love those things you fear or hate them?)
And, yes, it is her constitutional right to say those things. But you know what? All that means is that the government cannot do anything to her because of it. That does not mean that listeners and other people who care about their fellow human beings can’t let everyone know that speech like this, while constitutionally protected, is no way to talk in public. Not if you want to be taken seriously.

Funny, I thought only God had that power…according to your beliefs. The latter one fits nicely with the first because it now you have I will do and be whatever the heck I want, you do the same, and we wont condemn each other for it. And those who do, well they are just biggots, homophobes, bible-thumping facists, and so on. Well, I tell you what, Iam not a christian (in fact I wonder if any religion is THE WAY, though I believe there is a God)but I know I and any human, unless menatally handicapped, have the capacity to reason, and I offer no apologies for expecting others to live up to their full potential. And I wont artfully select convenient and artfully dodge inconvenient: scientific, medical, spiritual, moral, or logical facts so i can beleive what I want to believe.
