On MSNBC’s Morning Joe yesterday, host and former Republican Congressman Joe Scarborough claimed that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) “has never attached himself to these people on the far right that say if you’re gay, you’re going to hell, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.” Watch it:
As Media Matters points out, McCain sought and embraced the endorsement of San Antonio Pastor John Hagee, who claimed Hurricane Katrina was God’s judgment on New Orleans for hosting a gay pride parade. Ohio Pastor Rod Parsely, who McCain has called a “spiritual guide” on the campaign trail, claims that same-sex marriage is a “brutal attack from the forces of darkness.”

Scarborough believes he really doesn’t have to pay attention to these things. All he needs to remember is “REPUBLICAN = GOOD” and “DEMOCRAT = BAD”. He probably also knows that most of the country doesn’t pay that much attention either, so any tripe he spews forth is OK, true or not.

Sounds kinda hot if you ask me.
March 19th, 2008 at 5:29 pmHagee made a claim that should be easy enough for him to prove
He said that, regarding the supposed big gay pride parade scheduled for New Orleans, the one that allegedly caused God to hit Katrina upon the Gulf Coast, that the story wasn’t picked up in the National media, but WAS in the local media
So only Pastor Hagee’s area ran a story about a gay rights parade scheduled for New Orleans on the weekend Katrina hit?
Let Hagee Prove it, and after all, who better to tell the truth than a religous fraud determined to bring about “Armageddon” no matter what

March 19th, 2008 at 5:40 pmOhio Pastor Rod Parsely, who McCain has called a “spiritual guide” on the campaign trail, claims that same-sex marriage is a “brutal attack from the forces of darkness.”
But, but, can’t we hold McCain responsible for what his “spiritual guide” has said? If we have to hold Obama responsible for things Wright said, shouldn’t the same principle apply to McCain?
I’m sorry, but I will believe what a candidate tells me (even McCain and Hillary) and won’t judge them based on something that their pastor, friend or backer has said in the past. We are only responsible for our own words and deeds.

What sound reasons might that be? I’ve never heard a single one from any Obama supporter for why they support him. I have even more sound reasons for not supporting him! Mainly that he’s a racist, a bigot, a homophobe and a liar! I respectfully hope you understand that while I’ll hold my nose and vote for him in November, it’ll be the first time I’ve ever cast a vote for someone that’s openly hostile to the gay community! And the way you start is to keep the Obama supporters on the defense by attacking the people around him as being just that while accusing any counter attacks as blatant attempts of being discourteous. Accuse your oponent of what you’re being…

McCain has not issued any strong denunciations of all the horrific statements made by his two supporters- he has only cherry-picked a few. Naturally that means he agrees with them on the others. Shameful, Mr. McCain, and shame on the media who do not subject McCain to any sort of hard scrutiny.

March 19th, 2008 at 8:17 pmOnce again you people are getting yourselves all worked-up, and in the process missing the point. Max-1, Dasm, and others, I really would like to know what YOUR idea of hate speech is. Obviously, it only includes anything said by the republicans. Well let me clue you guys in on something: First of all, not everything said by someone about others(whether concerning religion, race, or SELF-CHOSEN sexual orientation)is hate speech. It seems to me that we have come to be a nation of hyper-sensitive whiners, and the far-left are the ones trying to be the Gestapo, condeming anyone who speaks any truth when it offends someone else, and seeking to pass laws that label ‘hurtful’, or ‘offenensive’ comments about any of their core constituents as ‘hate speech’. Last I checked, there is something in the American Constitution known as Freedom of Speech. Even the America-bashing Rev. Wright has protection under that freedom. And, by the way, there is a big difference between the ignorant comments of the right-wing preachers who said those things about Islam and who said that about gays and hurricane Katrina, and Rev. Wright who has blamed the goverment for the creation and spread of AIDS (which is freaking ridiculous and easily disproven), blames white people for all of African-Americans’ problems, has said G*D***N America and much more hate-speech than that. The difference is that the things we know he said, besides being prejudicial over-generalizations, and blankleting stereo-types, but are racist, ignorant, and blatantly anti-American. No one is simply just ‘picking’ or singling-out’ Obama’s supporters in order to tear down Obama, but rather there are alot of people who are tired of the whining and finger-pointing of African-American leaders when they don’t get their way, or they are called on some bull that they are trying to serve the American public. As usual, though, they and their left-wing, socialist supporters ( both of who, by the way, think its O.K. to bash white people, males, the goverment, churches, corporations and even America in general) twist and turn their own transgressions around as a finger of blame pointing at any who call them on their bullcrap. And then on top of that, they dont deem their diatribes and rantings of blame as hate, racist or unamerican. This freaking stupidity needs to stop, and I do mean on both sides of the Isle. If we ALL can’t learn to sit down and discuss issues rationally, work things out, and quit whining and finger-pointing everytime something doesnt go the way someone wants, then how do we expect our politicians to? And if they can’t, then I say there is no hope for our nation. Abraham Lincoln said it best: “A house divided cannot stand”. Think about it.

Might I dare ask why you only described “sexual orientation” as “SELF-CHOSEN” when religion is ALSO a CHOICE?
March 19th, 2008 at 10:52 pmAccording to Christian teachings, one must CHOOSE to follow Christ–it’s not innate. How many televangelists invite their audience to come up and “accept” Christ? If one’s born a Christian, one shouldn’t need to “accept” Christ.
Many people convert from one faith to another or even one denomination to another (and, you might recall accounts from a few years ago of an Afghani man who was sentenced to death for the “crime” of apostasy–that is, renouncing Islam and convertion to Christianity, which sounds like somebody CHOSE a religion). Don’t forget either that one of the leading principles of the European colonial expeditions to the Americas and Africa was “God”, which meant converting the native peoples to Christianity (even today, most missionary work involves converting people from not only animistic and other primitive/pagan beliefs to Christianity but converting from one Christian denomination to another). And you don’t seriously believe that the thousands of Jehovah’s Witnesses and young Mormon men spend their time knocking on doors and ringing doorbells just because they want to wish you a happy day–do you? No. They’re doing that because they want YOU to CHOOSE to worship God/Jesus according to the tenets of THEIR particular practices.

March 20th, 2008 at 12:58 amI’m not a fan of condemning anyone for what their supporters personally believe - we’re voting for a candidate, and not his or her advisers and supporters - but I do think there is a huge difference between Obama’s relationship with Rev. Wright and any relationship McCain might have to a far-right religious figure. To pretend otherwise is to simply ignore that Wright presided over a wedding and a baptism, inspired Obama’s book, was Obama’s pastor for two decades, etc. So I think there’s a point to what Scarborough is suggesting - it’s a matter of what he means by “attached,” of course, but I think he has a standard of “attached” that equates to the attachment of Wright and Obama.
But as long as we’re attacking Joe, can Media Matters slam Mika for agreeing?

I can see where you’re coming from. Sen. Obama chose to stay with Rev. Wright over an extended period based on his religious upbringing and his long-term faith.
Sen. McCain is aligning himself with religious figures purely for the politics and has nothing at allto do with his religious beliefs. Sen. McCain is using the religious people with whom he’s currying favor to get votes that he normally wouldn’t be accorded.
Sen. Obama, on the other hand, has a long and close relationship with his religious advisors and with his faith. His mistake is in trying to defend the indefensible, and for claiming one standard at one time, then another standard later.
http://www.abcnews.go.com/ Politics/ story?id=3031317&page=1
Sen. McCain looks at faith from a primary persepctive: how many votes will I get by whoring myself to this or that religious leader?
Not all my comment was sarcastic, but there is a very healty dose coating it.

March 20th, 2008 at 7:19 pmOk, let me make this short and clear: max-1 and dbadass,I can admit that fustration gets the better of me and that I can have a sharp tongue (something iam working on), but that doesn’t change the point, which I see no one has picked up on. The point is that the two minority EXTREMES (on the right and left)are hijacking OUR (as in all of ours) goverment and trying to shove their ideological socio/political views down the majority’s (that means the rest os us)throat and make us swallow it. On one hand there is the religious right, who imagine that the better days of America were when everyone: went to church, never questioned authority, children never spoke until spoken to, women knew their places (at home raising kids) and anything done in secret like rape, child-molesting, or adultery (which was done even by church and community leaders) was never talked about in public (unless as gossip)but rather swept under the rug. Ah , those must of been the good old days, because those on the far-right seem to suffer from a collective amnesia and they want everyone else to suffer from it too. On the other hand, we have the far-left. They are so opposed to anything on the far right that they will go to almost any lengths to impose their views on everyone in order to magically transform America into a ‘tolerant’, ‘progressive’, and all-embracing nation. In order to fulfill this idealistic state, they must: Act aggressively in their party to chase away the Democratic conservatives and moderates(and take full control of the Democratic party). Put a check next to that item; Legally and verbally assualt school systems, local goverments and the legal system through endless and COSTLY lawsuits, in order to get them to do what THEY (again, a minority)want them to do. Check that item off the list; Get a good hold on the media, and use it as a tool to attack the far-right, to attack anyone who publicly questions any of their ’sacred-cow’ issues, to paint the news, political issues and politics in general with their ideological hue (so as to slowly condition the public to the extreme left’s way of thinking). Well, check that item off the list; The only things this EXTREME minority has left to do is to keep doing what they are doing until they get enough power to impose their socio/political ideology on ALL OF US. Now, ANYONE with just a speck of logic and reason can see that all the media spin from both extremes, the causes of our Congress being stagnant, inefficient, and fractured, the causes of our economy being in a recession (it might be heading for worst), the cause of AVERAGE Americans being peed off and fed up with our goverment, and in alot of cases just plain fed up with evereything (Iam heading there myself), is because these two extreme MINORITIES, who hate each other, are manipulative, power-hungry, ideological nuts who use the rest of us (the MAJORITY) by dividing us along lines of race, gender, age, religion, and socio/political/economical status, and then play us against each other for THEIR OWN BENEFIT!!!!!!!!! OK, there I said it, and you can believe it or not, but guess what? When our country falls apart, I wont say “see, I told you so!” I’ll be too busy trying to find all the RATIONAL people I can find so WE can start over (if its possible)! And guess what else? I will be discriminating against ALL right-wing and left-wing nuts if they still cant see the truth! Keep dreaming your ideological dreams while you can you lefties and righties, because we all might be heading for a rude awakening.
