Now that he is retired, yes, he should be able to speak candidly. First question out their mouths should be Admiral Fallon, why did you and do you still oppose military action in Iran? Why do you believe the White House “disagrees” with you?

Second question: What is your opinion on what we should do from here in Iraq? Stay? Go? etc.

Everything after that, unless it’s clear he would have some knowledge that would blow the roof off of some of Dick and Shrubs scandals, would be just icing on the cake of the Iran questioning.

Bush will throw the executive priviledge blanket all over this. Anything that delves into issues of accountability will be resisted in the extreme.

But I’ve got another idea. Draw up articles of impeachment and then call them up to testify about the high crimes and misdemeanors. There is more than one way to skin this cat.

Fallon should testify. Petraeus should testify (and not alone, as suggested). Hard questions should be asked and answered. Yet, I expect that if the generals appear, if the hard questions are asked, the answers will be less than informative. At least the oversight committees are attempting oversight – something we haven’t seen in the previous 7 years.

Personally I don’t see anything wrong with this. If you hire a General and don’t feel he’s doing the job he should be (whether that job is something you and I agree with), isn’t it the commanderer in chimp’s prerogative to replace him?

Hey, hey, what is this, some kinda oversight thing? Well what in the world is Congress coming to if they’re Finally performing their Constitutionally Mandated Duties?!?!??? Does this Finally mean, after 7 years of “Play Dead” that we may, at long last, get someting vaguely resembling an additional branch of functional government??? One can but hope.

I’m trying to figure out how it would work out for 2 disagreeing people to testify at the same time. Especially when the witnesses are in a “chain of command” structure. Have to wonder if having both testify independently may be the best way.
