FRC: I ‘prefer’ to ‘export homosexuals’ from the U.S.

Discussing his opposition to the Uniting American Families Act — “which would allow gay Americans the same right straight Americans have to sponsor a foreign partner for citizenship” — Family Research Council Vice President Peter Sprigg recently offered rhetorical support for exporting gay men and women from America. “I would much prefer to export homosexuals from the United States than to import them into the United States because we believe homosexuality is destructive to society,” said Sprigg. And I think bigots are destructive to society. Does this mean I should support exporting bigots from the United States? Not that it isn’t a bad idea…

So who is this “we” that this person is speaking of? As far as I can tell a majority of people in this country are fine with homosexuals. They recognize that being homosexual is an act of nature and recognize that they are not a threat to heterosexual marriages. The treat to heterosexual marriage is infidelity and divorce.

Generally, once people realize that they have friends, neighbors, and co-workers who are gay, they understand that they are people like everybody else and are no real threat.

Somebody once said (I can’t remember who) that if all gay people turned blue overnight that straight people would be amazed to discover they encounter quite a few gays in their everyday lives — with no ill effects.

Bigots, on the other hand, are a different story.

But your right side pundits are telling anybody within ear shot just the opposite. They say Wright DOES speak for all progressives. And if Sprigg has a prominent right siders attention, his talking points become part of the dialog – so Sprigg, indirectly, DOES speak for all conservative.

With the current Administration’s new laws many people will be denied their once Constitutional Rights and just as Rome fell so will the United States of America. Just think it took Bush/Cheney only 7 years to destroy a once great country that had lasted for 224 years.

  90. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

Sorry Daryll, I mean no disrespect but most of those that I have met who claim to have been born more than once are a bunch of weak, feeble, and needed losers who need to be lead around through life.

That’s been my perception also. Every born-again I have met was so lacking in self confidence they found they needed to turn their lives over to a “higher authority” to tell them how to think, how to act and what to believe in. They remind me a lot of the Moonies and other people who have joined cults.

  91. Merlin says:

Someone should form a study group to determine how many useless wasted hours are spent thinking and talking about homosexuality. Take Daryll for instance. I bet it is years of his life. Hell, maybe it is all of his life. And considering that it is a totally fraudulent argument to begin with… maybe it is fair to say Daryll has no life except a fraudulent one.

From Daryll’s view, on the positive side, Daryll does not have to face himself psychologically, like in therapy, for instance. Why, if he is lucky, and works really hard at it, he might get through his whole life on this fantasy of his. That would certainly beat finding out the truth about his utter sinfulness and having those awful feelings about that. Additionally, the pain of regret for the loss of his real life to a fantasy, because of his deep seated fear, added to the shame and guilt might be overwhelming…

I better stop this! I’m beginning to feel sorry for poor Daryll…

More Repuglican Hypocrisy: Bible Belt States Have the Highest Divorce Rates. And they Worry About Gay Marriage?

Christian conservatives are hellbent on keeping gays from marrying, saying such same-sex unions are an affront to the great institution of marriage, threatening the very social, emotional and legal fabric which binds a man and woman in holy matrimony. Ironically however, it’s these very same bible-thumpers who have the highest divorce rates in the country. The Bible Belt is the breeding ground for broken marriage.

Despite this fact, the right wing evangelical fanatics like to point to states like “liberal” Massachusetts, holding it up as some sort of Sodom and Gomorrah. To the contrary, Massachusetts has the lowest divorce rate in the country at 2.4 per 1,000 population.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the states with the highest divorce rates are to be found in the Bible Belt, where they exceed by 50% the national average of 4.2 per thousand people. The 10 Southern states with some of the highest divorce rates were Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma, North and South Carolina, Florida, Arizona and Texas. By comparison nine states in the Northeast– where allegedly amoral, faithless, Volvo-driving, Birkenstock-wearing, NY Times-reading lefties are found–were among those with the lowest divorce rates: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Rhode Island.

Perhaps these born-again Christians should actually practice what they preach. Family values? Now that’s a joke.

He’ll never finish it, but the galleys make great reading. He’s quite thorough.

I’ve carried the notion that the religious excuses for warfare have been the cover-up for what has always been simply a grab of resources from people less fortunate and unable to defend themselves and their resources.

You are a delusional fool. Mr. Magical Invisible Faerie does not exist, moron. You can lie to yourself all you want, but in the end when you die, it is over, you will become just dust, your “soul” died when your body died.

And you are secretly gay, and we all know it.

Exactly, Merlin. My bro-in-law has said virtually the same thing as our Daryll — that he couldn’t survive without Jesus/God guiding his life, and he wondered aloud how I lived day to day without Jesus in my heart.

I said, “Are you f_cking kidding me?” He hasn’t said 12 words to me since. I view it as a plus. ;)

Yours is a “magic statement”! It drives away the demon who appears like a saint. I’m reminded of a cartoon from Playboy where a priest, in confronting a Dracula like figure, is holding a cross up to him. Dracula cringes behind his black cloak in the face of the almighty power of the cross. But then… Dracula produces a large phallic dildo and thrusts it at the priest, who then cringes behind his robes in the face of the power and reality of sex, which he is frightened to death of.

A powerful visual that is all too true in the real world (not to mention how funny it is!)

I’m inclined to the belief that virtually all wars are about grabbing resources, whether that be land, oil, gold, slaves (all too common) — even GoodWars™ like the American Revolution are ultimately about resources and who controls them. Humans never really go to war to right wrongs, although they (hint hint) gussy them up to look that way.

    Fred I’m soooo jealous!

Won’t be for me again until Easter morning – gave it up for Lent, and I don’t even go to church anymore!!! What WAS I thinking??

I needed the break. A very interesting experience that I don’t think I’ll ever repeat. :)

Somehow I believe that religious wars (like some of those from Rome) were more about subjugation, rather than resources. Unless you consider “people” resources which I don’t.)

I don’t, either, but big corporations do. That’s why they did away with calling them “Personnel” departments and started calling them “Human Resources” departments. To them, a person is just a tool for doing business, like a laptop computer, only not as smart and lots more expensive. I hate Corporations.

    2) This thread is about the unChristian thought of deporting those we disagree with. WFT is that??? Heck, when can we reintroduce slavery, since it’s mentioned in the Old Testament.(snark!!)
I’m sorry (and a little buzzed), buy when did Christianity include loving thy neighbor only when they are of the same color and sexuality???

In the not so distant past, human labor was needed to extract and process the natural resources. The subjugated peoples became a resource and were made to adhere to a particular religion, giving more control to the conquerors.
In the modern age, a few men, and a few more men with weapons, plus lots of machinery, can pillage a country’s resources very quickly.

I suppose one could argue that the Crusades were more about subjugation then about resources but I tend to agree with gummitch that even these were about control of the trade routes from the East- hence resources.

    Point of clarification, DRxJ…

When I read the above comment, does it mean you consider “Drinking Michelob Light” to be your favorite sporting event, OR, are you drinking Michelob WHILE watching your favorite sporting event?

If you actually consider “Drinking Michelob Light” a sporting activity, I must say I’m intrigued. Tell me more… what sort of rules does this game have? And what’s the objective? And does drinking other brands of beer count?

I mean, we could have whole classes in this sport: porters, pale ales, stouts…

I think this idea has SERIOUS merit!

The Crusades (which one?) were pretty complex. For some of the Crusaders there was definitely a sincere religious element. For the various Popes, it was a mixture of power and religion. But not only trade was at stake, especially in the early years; a lot of Crusaders stuck around and created kingdoms for themselves, which was certainly about controlling resources–and attempting to control those resources into the future.

As others have noted, people comprised the greatest resource of the time: labor (manual and skilled), battle fodder, and wealth (taxes, food, etc.).

Be that as it may, and as I’m soon to be 42, let’s just say that actually attaining a day off to watch March Madness, and consuming Michelob Light in the process, and my wife agreeing to said events, in itself a “victory” for the old man!!!

I know this is the homophobe thread but breaking news out of Washington DC. Barack Obama’s passport record file was breached by 3 contract workers in January. The unauthorized file access tripped several alarms within the system. When they couldn’t give a legitimate answer as to why they did this a supervisor was called in. Two of the contract workers were fired and the other was disciplined. The bigger questions are who did they access this for and why has it taken 2 months for it to get out? K.O. is reporting on it now.
