Speaking at the Baker Institute for Public Policy in Houston, TX, last month (Feb. 28th), McCain stated the following:
But Al Qaeda is there, they are functioning, they are supported in many times, in many ways by the Iranians.
Watch it:
This is at least the fourth time that McCain has asserted a direct Iran/al Qaeda connection. Previously, he made the false claim on the Hugh Hewitt radio show and twice during a recent press conference in Jordan. His campaign has also made the connection in his name.
Gramps McSame is using the Bush doctrine of lying in order to keep the sheeple afraid. These aren’t “senior moments” – these are sly little lies.

March 20th, 2008 at 10:37 amYes. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
I’m sure the trolls will be here with all their rightwing blog links to “prove” there really is an Iran-Al Qaeda connection, no matter how tenuous or convoluted.
And all that will do is just create noise to distract from the real question — does McCain know for sure of an Iran-Al Qaeda connection, is he inventing one in order to get support for bombing Iran, or is he just flapping his lips without engaging his brain?
If McCain truly knows of a specific Iran-Al Qaeda connection, he would look less like a fool if he would elaborate on that, and convince us why Sunnis and Shiites are working together when we know they hate each other.
I suspect that instead of there being a real Iran-Al Qaeda connection, that McCain is just ramping up passion for attacking Iran. And he knows he can get American support for such a move just by mentioning the term “Al Qaeda” in the same breath as “Iran” as often as possible.

Does anyone remind him that the “mission” was to find WMD’s and keep Saddam from launching a “mushroom cloud?” No. That’s old news.

March 20th, 2008 at 11:11 amCombined with his other statements and song and dance, it does certainly seem like he’s laying the groundwork for attacking Iran. Bush and Cheney are probably more than willing to do him a solid and get the ball rolling before January or even November.
On the Saudi-Qeada connection: has GG or any other rightwinger ever addressed the documented and undisputed connection? Have they advocated ‘taking measures’ to stop this menace to Iraq? Why not i wonder. It couldn’t be that rubber band minds might just snap if they admitted that Bush holds hands and trades pecks on the cheeks with funders of teh terrah, is it?
March 20th, 2008 at 11:12 amWorking with Al-Qaeda would be tremendously counterproductive to Iran’s goals. They are already working with the Badr Corps, which has a tremendous presence in the government of Iraq. And the Badr Corps fights against AQI daily. Hatred of Al-Qaeda is the only thing that the Badr Corps and the Mahdi Army can agree upon, and both Badr/Mahdi have received support from Iran.

March 20th, 2008 at 11:27 amOh gigi, the United States and USSR is not really a good comparison. Are you intimating that George Bush has turned the United States into the equivalent of Nazi Germany? The US and USSR were fightging against a violent war of aggression by Germany which was noted for violating international laws (like concentration camps and torture – waterboarding as an example.) This drove the US and USSR together.
What you really are saying then is that Bush went from invading Afghanistan to take out AQ (which had the support of the vast majority of Muslims and Iran) to making the US reviled throughout the region and uniting those who had been implacable enemies for centuries.
Good job George. Good job Gigi – You once again prove that the neocons who brought us into this mess are nothing more than a bunch of witless idiots.

Wouldn’t you get a gun and shoot the invader? Al-Qeida, insurgency, terrorist… they can give any name they want. People have the legitimate right to resist the US occupation, while the US does not have the legitimate rigtht to be there… and for as long they are there, occupying another country, based on lies to steal their resources, there will be resistance. Legitimate resistance!

Daryll, you have to check the ties between Al-Qeida and the USA! There are there you know! Oh Oh… and what about that beautiful photo of the War Criminal Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam Hussein? They were shaking hands because the US had just approved a stockpile of Chemical weapons to be given to Saddam… you those weapons he used against the Kurds in the 80’s. OK, this should PROVE that Frank M is nothing but a parodist. It’s tough to believe that anyone could really be this idiotic with a straight face.
Frank does not care if McCain is wrong. Or if he’s misinformed. Or even if he’s downright stupid. Or maybe it’s that he doesn’t care if Iran has any ties with Al Qaeda or not.
Frank apparently cares about nothing except the Republican winning. It doesn’t matter what kind of president the candidate would make — all that’s important is that the Republican wins.
Sad.
And he’s even wrong about McCain being “ahead by double digits”. The Rasmussen poll cited by the Drudge Report only has McCain ahead of Clinton by 10 points. No other poll shows McCain’s margin to be that large. Furthermore, the only other polls showing McCain to be ahead AT ALL are Gallup, Zogby and the LA Times. CNN, ABC News, USA Today, NBC News, Newsweek, and Cook all still have their most recent polls showing both Clinton and Obama ahead of McCain.

This point has been so obvious that it must be downright painful for the righties by now. Ignoring Saudi Arabia while being consumed by every jot and tittle in every document regarding Iran and Iraq is like a detective laboriously doing luminol tests (those of you who don’t know can google it) in the bedroom while blood is splattered all over the living room — simply because his case will go better if he can tie the bedroom to the crime scene.

A few of the the people believed to have committee the 9/11 attacks may have travelled through Iran to take advantage of their lax visa policies. That is a far cry from “supporting the terrorists.” Iran no more “supported the terrorists” than Spain or Germany.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:55 amAnd,what I should trust everything from the mouth of Commander Codpeice?
March 20th, 2008 at 11:57 amDaryll… do you remember 9/11? 13 of the alledged kidnapers were from Saudi Arabia. Bush had plenty of warnings but somehow did nothing to prevent it. It make me think ‘Why?’. Plus they still did not show a 757 hiting the Pentagon, nor did they ever explained what an E-4B plane was doing flying ober Washington on that day. …and this is just a begining. Your claim about al-Qeida/Iran sound very much like the administration, I should say criminal adiministration’s claims about Al-Queida/Saddam connection, which has been proven false. Who proved that? The Pentagon itself did this week in a report about pre-war inteligence which was released this week.

Daryll,
For the third time: what about Saudi Arabia? Why don’t you advocate taking action against them? Do you dispute the mountains of evidence firmly linking them to teh terrah? If so, please produce some counter evidence.
If you don’t dispute the ties, why not bomb them? Please explain…
Saudi Arabia had and continues to have proven ties to the 9/11 attackers. Why do you hate America and love teh terrahists so much?
March 20th, 2008 at 12:16 pmDaryll, I fear for your nephews and the future generation, too, but for a different reason. I fear because people like you and those in power think that violence is the solution to this and most problems of foreign policy.

I think about 9/11, the Underground bombing, Madrid and terrorist attacks and, at times, I feel depressed for my nephews and the future generation because people like you and your party want to run away from this problem. Why do support the destruction of our future generation by terrorists?
Terrorism will always be around. It has existed since the beginning of human civilization and it will exist until the end of human civilization. There will always be people using violence to achieve political goals. There will always be people shouting “Death to America” somewhere in the world. There will always be religious nutbags – Christian, Jewish, Hundu, and Muslim – who think violence will bring about some sort of end-state peace.
Military solutions will never stop that.
The only way to address these problems is diplomacy – and not the hegemonic “transformational diplomacy” we’re currently pursuing, but actual dialogue and reconciliation, combined with a ruthless assault on poverty, inequality, and human rights violations.
And as part of that diplomacy, the United States needs to take a good, hard look at itself and its imperialist history since 1953. We have a shitload to atone for.

Now, the same right-whiners refuse to take responsibility for their distracting Pres. Clinton from taking Usama “out.”
