Scooter Libby disbarred.

Former vice presidential chief of staff Scooter Libby has been disbarred, according to Washington, D.C. radio station WTOP. “A three-judge panel on the DC Court of Appeals stripped Libby of his ability to practice law after he was found guilty last year of obstructing the investigation in the CIA leak investigation,” according to the station. President Bush commuted Libby’s sentence in July 2007.

  5. WaltTheMan Says:

Can't W un-disbar him? Isn't that a prerogative of the unitary executive? Perhaps a signing statement would help!

  6. tombaker Says:

He's a wingnut welfare queen now - why would he bother "working" as a "lawyer"??

    >Can’t W un-disbar him?

I'm reasonably sure the authorization to use military force (AUMF) covers this, and the answer is, yes. If the terrorists would be emboldened by Libbys disbarment, then, in a time of obvious war, the president would have the power to do whatever is necessary to emotionally castrate and unemasculate the terrorists, up to and including the possibility of putting estrogen in thier bottled water to turn them into hermaphrodites who could be thier own 72 virgins.

  12. Ms_Joanne Says:

Now we need to disbar Miers for ignoring a subpoena.

BTW, this is OT but everyone should see this. (HT:Joe Cantwell) Welcome to the future, brought to you by two generations of Republicans.

  13. missmolly Says:

When Bush pardons Libby at 11:59 am on January 20, 2009, I wonder if the ABA will reverse the disbarment? Or will it stay even though Libby's slate is wiped clean?

What about the ROOTS OF THE ASPEN TREES?

Not a bad start but when will they disbar Alberto Gonzales and those other criminals David Addington & John Yoo for all their Constitution shredding shinanigans?

So there *is* a tiny little drop of justice in this...

If there were REAL justice, Scooter would be sharing a 6x8 cell with a Hell's Angel named "Killer."

    Ms. Joanne,

Thanks for the You Tube link, I had no idea that tent cities were popping up, ala Hoovervilles.

    good_golly Says:

The disbarment was not contested as Scooter Libby no longer practices law, and thus does not need the license.

Interestingly enough, Gigi, many have used the same logic to dismiss the Clinton disbarment as irrelevant.

    Do you agree?

  26. lzcrmc Says:

Here comes the pardon ... won't be guilty anymore ... no grounds for disbarment

  27. Jackie Says:

Yes Cheney will order Bush to pardon the loyal soldier Scooter or he just might be our next Vice President. Sara Taylor is a criminal drug addicted hired by NBC so anything can happen.

  28. SP Biloxi Says:

    In one word: Good!

And yes, the ball is in the Hot Air-in-Chief's court to whether he will pardon Libby of his crimes before he leaves office. If he does that, will he pardon The Bugman DeLay since DeLay's trial has started?

  29. greggp Says:

The President has the power to give criminal pardons, but he does not have the power to to reverse an administrative decision of the D.C. Bar. The DC Court of Appeals has specifically held that the granting of a Presidential pardon does not nullify the Bar's authority to impose professional discipline based on the underlying conduct. In re Abrams 689 A.2d 6 (1997). That case was about Elliott Abrams, one of the Republican criminals from Iran-Contra).

Also, even if Libby is pardoned (a good reason to impeach GWB on January 19) Libby will not be automatically subject to reinstatement. Reinstatement is based on a showing of contrition, rehabilitation, and a showing of present good moral character.

Valid point -- I meant the DC Bar Association and my fingers typed ABA. My bad.

    (...need...more...caffeine...)

  31. greggp Says:

Bush cannot pardon DeLay, unless he becomes Governor of Texas again.

  32. greggp Says:

Actually, I think DeLay is on his own, no matter what, because he was in charge during the time Christopher Ward was embezzling money from the NRCC and numerouse GOP PACs.

  33. paleolib Says:

Republicans -- this generation's at least -- don't do contrition and see no need for rehabilitation since they never admit to wrongdoing. Scooter's chances of practicing law again are pretty much nil even with a full pardon.

  34. sacopenapa Says:

He should be in prison serving his 30 months sentence!

    Good.
