The Republican and Democratic parties EVOLVED between the 1870’s and the 1930’s where the Republicans abandoned any pretense of representing the balck population whilst the Democrats gradually acquired a conscience as well as realizing the potential for developing blacks as a voting bloc.

It was the modern Democrats who forced the integration of the US military in WWII, the modern Republicm opposed. It was modern Democrats who fought against segregation in the 50s and 60’s the modern Republicans who opposed.
