In a recent column, right-wing pundit Pat Buchanan attempted to argue that blacks benefited from slavery because they “grew into a community of 40 million” in the United States:
First, America has been the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that 600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known.
Wright ought to go down on his knees and thank God he is an American.
Second, no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the ’60s on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream.
(HT: Pam’s House Blend)
Pat Buchanan has some choice real estate waiting for him in HELL.
March 24th, 2008 at 10:45 amI got to listen to my father in law explain how black people only have their hands out and how they don’t want to work. he did this by comparing them to the vietnamesee comign to our country. He had not clue or concern that the vietnamesee have come under much different circumstances than blacks, as have nearly every other group if immigrants.
Immigrants have tended to come intact, culturally, with their family and cultural identiy intact and have always hd the ability to return home. Blacks came from all over africa from a wide range of cultures as different from one another and the Fins are differnt from the Irish or Greeks. They came here with no clue as to how to return. They came here and had their culture supressed and their families torn apart on the auction blocks, yet some how they are supposed to behave like the Vietnamesee? I go to hear this on Easter sunday when my son was baptised at the church where my father in law is a decon.
March 24th, 2008 at 10:49 amI shoudl also add that I live in a very small town where the percentage of people on Welfare and food stamps is disproportionately high, but they are all white. And that a large portion of the local communities income comes to the farming community in the form of hand outs for set asides and farm subsidies.
March 24th, 2008 at 10:51 amWacky logic, there, Pat.
March 24th, 2008 at 10:53 amI go to hear this on Easter sunday when my son was baptised at the church where my father in law is a decon.
Sounds like typical small-minded, back-woods, bible-thumping jacka$$es to me.
Church – smurch. Worship as you wish, without lining the pockets of a theocratic mind control machine.
March 24th, 2008 at 10:53 am“Untold trillions have been spent since the ’60s on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream.”
Is that what that money was for? I guess we’re even then.
March 24th, 2008 at 10:54 amSo racist. Wow.
Buchanan’s comment portrays black people as freeloaders who have taken advantage of social services, but have never paid any taxes. This is simply untrue and so deeply racist that I do find it offensive.
March 24th, 2008 at 10:54 amCan someone please PLEASE smack the snot out of Pat Buchanan?!?
March 24th, 2008 at 10:56 amThis idiot CAN’T be serious.
March 24th, 2008 at 10:57 amSo do ya figure that Patrick thinks that the any one class of people in any kind of frame of reference didn’t pay for what they did and any folks have put out more to be parts of the great American dream? I would tend to think that “Black Folks” think that they put in a full share, much more than say um um Scotch/British Americans! Perhaps Patrick, you can tell us about Native Americans, Hispanics, and Aisians. How about telling us about them as well?
March 24th, 2008 at 11:01 amre Serevus,
March 24th, 2008 at 11:03 amIntroduce your dad in law to John Ogbu’s work entitled “Minority Status and Schooling: A Comparative Study of Immigrant and Involuntary Minorities.” It’s old, by academic standards, but it’s well worth reading.
i STRONGLY recommend that you read these, and pass them along to all…

March 24th, 2008 at 11:04 amNow though, where are black people prospering more than in any other place in the world?
TRY EUROPE, stupid a$$. Been prospering MUCH LONGER in Britain than here.

Last I remember, Pat wanted spending on these programs to be drastically reduced.
Does this mean that Pat is against helping out the most unfortunate people in our society?
What a way to stand up for the principles condoned by Jesus Christ, “Rev.” Buchanan.
/sarcasm
March 24th, 2008 at 11:06 amGood point, Pinko.
I wonder if Buchanan thinks that Native Americans have it made here, because of all the money “we’ve” spent on them over the years in social programs.
They should be so thankful that we did them the service of taking their land…
March 24th, 2008 at 11:06 amNew Mexico Governor Bill Richardson says time has come for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to wind down her campaign.
hear hear I agree
March 24th, 2008 at 11:09 am“Buchanan: ‘America has been the best country on earth for black folks.’”
And the republican party has been the best place on earth for homophobes and bigots and advocates of hatred…..ad nauseum.
March 24th, 2008 at 11:11 amI have never understood the full meaning of Karma, however I’m hoping Pat can live his second earth life, assuming there is one, as a passenger in the hold portion of a ’slave ship’ bound for those glorious days of luxury living on a southern cotton plantation circa 18th century. I would love to see a photo of Pat back then, down on his knees thanking God for his extreme good luck.

Maybe it’s time for Pat to endorse McCain.
March 24th, 2008 at 11:16 amThe modern day Republican Party has been the best place on earth for racists.
Today’s GOP, all the patience and compassion for Iraqi Sunnis that have been killing US soldiers for 5 years, not one ounce of compassion for African-Americans who have worked, fought and died for America.

March 24th, 2008 at 11:20 amthese idiots REALLY have NO CLUE what’s coming do they?
i can’t think of anything better for a racist to write before the US elects a black president and a spanish sec of state.
March 24th, 2008 at 11:21 amOh boy. Here we go again.
March 24th, 2008 at 11:21 amSee, you have this glorious view of Europe, but you really have no clue about what’s going on there.
I’ve been there many, many more times than you, and frankly, stick your stats up your dirty a$$, where they belong.
You’re totally in the clueless-dark, where you belong, obviously.
Real life experiences are much more valuable than net-stats, idiot.
March 24th, 2008 at 11:23 amWas Pat Buchanan raised in 19th century England?
“no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans.”
Yes because black people had no part in lifting themselves up against racial oppression. It was all the work of the ever benevolent supreme and civilized white man.
racist pig
March 24th, 2008 at 11:24 amClue:
If it weren’t for slavery, the U.S. would still be a 3rd world country.
But racists think they don’t owe their own good fortune to those who gave their blood and lives for their country’s benefit.
Stupid fcuking typical Wingtards. What more should we expect?
March 24th, 2008 at 11:26 am#10, 21 and 31 put the soft bigotry of low expectations on display.

March 24th, 2008 at 11:28 amTo the bigoted, hate-filled troll: black people are much better integrated throughout Latin America, and are far closer to the socioeconomic middle with respect to the countries they live in, than here in America.
March 24th, 2008 at 11:29 amWetdreamer(crusher):
Black people, as NAS points out in his song “I Can”, were robbed of all they had centuries ago, have been mistreated by everyone from the Europeans to the Persians.
LOL! So all your insight into the plight of blacks comes from songs?
No wonder you’re so F.U.B.A.R.
March 24th, 2008 at 11:29 amThis reminds me of a furor over pamphlets distributed by Marice’s Barbeque in Columbia, SC about 10 years ago.
Basically the pamphlets held that the negroe slaves were thankful to their white masters for taking them out of the jungle and putting them to gainful work. etc. etc.
To add a personal interjection:
After all, whites paid the boat ticket for blacks to come to the land of opportunity. A few years later, the Irish had to pay their own way.
Please don’t flame me. I don’t agree with the above
March 24th, 2008 at 11:30 amTo the bigoted, hate-filled troll: just because life is worse for someone else somewhere than for a typical black American doesn’t excuse the corrosive effects racism has in this country.
But you are one of those freaks who defend Bush as being slightly better than Saddam.
March 24th, 2008 at 11:31 amPat’s gonna LOVE swearing his allegiance to President Obama!!!

March 24th, 2008 at 11:33 amShorter Pat Buchanan: It’s okay we treat black people badly. White people treat black people badly all over the world.
Let’s aim a bit higher, shall we?
March 24th, 2008 at 11:34 amIt must be a sin to cite black people talking about blacks! Who should I reference? Pastor Wright perhaps?
What’s the diff? You can’t “pick and choose” the history that suits your personal bigotry.
March 24th, 2008 at 11:34 amTell me, Mr. “European”, what is your nationality? I don’t know any European who identifies himself as a European per se.

My mistake. Racists live by setting their own terms, then changing them when necessary.

2-when was the last time you apologized for the past?
3-the fact that you end your question with an exclamation point indicates that you have no interest in apologizing.
4-there s a huuuuuge difference between apologizing and acknowledging past wrongs. Buchanan, and you, apparently believe that it’s ok that our country was built on slave labor. cracker.
For the rest of you, here’s a window in the fetid mind of patrick J buchanan:http://www.mtsu.edu/~baustin/buchanan.html

March 24th, 2008 at 11:41 amYou’re the one who make the comparison if you care to read your own posts. If you think blacks in America are living such a good life why don’t you take a taxi to S. Central La. and get out and take a walk…..

And if Mr. Know-It -All had been talking about South America, it would have said it was South American, or Asian, if that had been the subject, and so on… This is a common trait of trolls: since they have no facts or logic to back up their pointless points, they try to win arguments on the back of false ethos.
March 24th, 2008 at 11:47 amThere is a kernel of truth to what the troll says: European society, particularly in the north, is a closed society to a degree, and is historically more homogeneous than the U.S. Racism is definitely a problem in Europe. But that observation in no way supports the troll’s rationalization for the way black Americans have been, and are now, treated in this country.

March 24th, 2008 at 11:49 am#68 is a typically blatant example of extreme moral relativism. This is the way Republicans think: Bush is okay because he is not as bad as Saddam, and black Americans have it peachy because sub-Saharan Africans are starving to death (aside: the plight of that part of the world has been greatly exacerbated by western colonialism and modern-day capitalism).
March 24th, 2008 at 11:51 amVerbalKint,

Fcuking tool.
March 24th, 2008 at 11:53 am#10 dreamcrusher you are measuring based on your ideals of sucess, that can be a dangerous measuring stick. Time and time again when surveys/studys are done measuring happiness and contentment the US is nowhere near the top and more often than not primative/simpler cultures are. SO are blacks really better off here in the US? Measured by material goods, they might possibly be, meausred by contentment…of course they are not.
#12, I’ll look for that one. But he has beomce one of those types who view any sort of discussion explaing the situation as being an attempt to justify bad behavior. Sad thing is is that he is a really good man, but his friends are diehard 30% club members and he woudl rather maintian his friendships rather than do what is right.
#28 because it impacts who they are today. Do you also complain about Jews brining up how they were forced out of their homeland hundreds and hundreds of years ago? Does the dying off of a group of people (in this case slave owners) sudenly make it all better? In that case in ten or twenty years we can stop talking about the holocaust and Pearl Harborand thrity years after that we can stop talking about the soviet Union?
BTW Dreamcrusher, prior to the invasionby US the Sunni’s in Iraq were at the top of the food chain. It was the Shi a who were the opressed.
March 24th, 2008 at 11:54 am“I fail to see how my nationality is of any relevance to this discussion.”
You, sir, are a liar. You are not a European. To begin with, no British person would ever identify himself as a European. Furthermore, no European from the continent would share your perfect alignment with the present-day GOP. Not even right wing, racist Europeans. There is a different flavor to European conservatism. Though you might have traveled extensively in Europe, or perhaps lived there for a time, you are American through and through.
March 24th, 2008 at 11:54 amDid Pat forget about the underground railroad? What a stupid remark, period. When are people going to start speaking from facts instead of own personal dreams? Do a little research Pat and maybe you will see that CANADA, was the haven for blacks to ascape slavery and abuse from the citizens of the US.
Why is it a republican who makes stupid remark?
March 24th, 2008 at 11:57 am#77 the problem with you and the republican MINORITY in this country is that you measure in terms of dollars and cents and mateiral goods. It reminds me of something dirty dick said when discussing El Salvador and what the US did there in the 1980’s. The interviewer listed out allegations of misconduct by the US and the death toll and asked dirty dick what he thought of all of that in hind sight. Dirt’s answer was that the eocnomy in ElSalvador was good. Nothing else. His implication is that because the economy was stong now what we did back then was ok. There is so much more to measure sucess and contentment by.
March 24th, 2008 at 11:59 amYou know everything don’t you? How does my statement not align with your qualification, and then you imply that I am uninformed.
This is not a lecture and if it were you would not be qualified to give it. Black people, as NAS points out in his song “I Can”, were robbed of all they had centuries ago, have been mistreated by everyone from the Europeans to the Persians. Now though, where are black people prospering more than in any other place in the world?
I wonder what country had its entire economy based in black slavery? What country had to enact laws against racism, after many revolts, because it was so widespread (and that was in the ’60s, not so much ago)? What country did (and do) more lynching of black folks? Weren’t almost exactly the modern Southern Red States the same ones that rebelled against the freedom of slaves? I guess that everything is an improvement over slavery, and a “handout” to them, in your little world.
Where else do you have Oprah, Colin Powell, Barack Obama, Michael Jordan, Stevie Wonder, and so on, and so forth?
I wonder why NEVER existed a black Republican candidate to the presidency of the USA.
If you anti-American delusional kids stop and think for just one minute, instead of pathologically downloading Think Progress propaganda directly, you might just see that.
Propaganda? Please, look at any picture of a RNC, and you’ll see 99.99% whites and some black, spanish or asian waiters.
Let’s not even start in on all that has been done by “white people” and “white churches” and “white politicians” to help blacks in Africa.
Oh, yes, forbide them to use preservatives instead to prevent AIDS. Such caring folks…
Come on, Amanda, you shallow hate-monger. Where else are blacks doing as well as in America? Where else in the world have blacks gotten more help than in America?
You sound really hateful and angry? Weren’t the Repubes so placid, cheerful and caring people?
March 24th, 2008 at 12:07 pm#87 Looks like DC is having a little meltdown.
You lied about being European, buddy. Now fess up. Living in “a European metropolitan area” doesn’t count. I live in a European metropolitan area too. It doesn’t make me European.
As for what I know about you and your politics, I remind you that you have been trolling this site off and on for at least two years now, and you have made your right wing Bush lockstepping political views perfectly well known to everyone here. So put your umbrage away and quit acting like a fool.
March 24th, 2008 at 12:09 pmWhy don’t you have Think Progress administrators check my IP and tell you if I’m connecting from Europe?
Can be done without TP’s help.
You sure you wanna be outed as a liar AGAIN, AND AGAIN?
March 24th, 2008 at 12:09 pmBelieve me. I rarely agree with what Buchanon has to say but there is some truth in what he says. And I’m all for the programs that try to help those that ARE diccriminated against. Would Yale accept blacks if they weren’t paid by the government? But they accepted Cheney and he couldn’t cut it. But Obama could. I know he is bi-racial. I would even suspect Clarence Thomas had a boost up somewhere along the line and forgot about it. There aren’t many corporations that willingly go out of there way to recruit black employees. Only to comply with the EEOC. Unfortunately Buchanon looks at these programs as handouts and not a helping hand. Are there rare abuses? Yes. But not to Reagan’s false claim of the “Woman riding to pick up her welfare check in a Cadillac.” First you ‘don’t pick up a welfare check,’ It has to be delivered. But are there corporate abuses? It isn’t a program to help the less fortunate that put our economy in it’s present condition. It is the same reasoning that Reagan had that caused it. De-regulation, non-regulation and greed.
March 24th, 2008 at 12:10 pmI’m sorry….you are very misinformed if you believe this.

How is this in any way relevant? Britain and France and Germany are old-world European countries which have dominant indigenous ethnicities and small numbers of immigrants. The United States is a nation of immigrants with a small and very underrepresented indigenous population. You can’t compare the two.
March 24th, 2008 at 12:14 pmSo DC, does it irk you when your European colleagues look down their noses at you as an unsophisticated American? Do they roll their eyes or look silently into the distance when you defend Bush and his failed policies?
I hope you are getting paid by the home company in dollars.
March 24th, 2008 at 12:14 pmAs an African American with a daughter and son in Iraq I find the comments interesting. How people who call the US there’s yet don’t serve in the US Military to protect it. When any Americans gets sick he/she might use penicillin to become better yes a Black man developed for all people. When you put that beer or food in the refrigerator a Black man invented it for all people. While your driving and the light turns yellow, then red you stop, when it turns green you go as a Black man invested that too. The White House that now has a sitting KKK member was built by black slaves. One would think Easter Sunday had made some stop the hate and racism but it hasn’t. We have 4000 dead soldiers we honor some are minorities do you honor them or do you know honor whites. God created all people equal, our Founding Father wrote All men are created equal, but because of hate and racism being spread by ignorant Americans we are going backward fast. Look in the face of a soldier who protected this country and say what the comments are said on this blog. I will make sure I email most of them to the Iraq soldiers to see just what Americans think of them giving their lives to protect those who hate them. Thanks for letting me know what you really feel.

Yeah, like you knew who the hell Diane Abbott was before you searched for black European politicians. Haha. Now is she a prominent politician? No, of course not. Who’s Britain’s Barack Obama? Who’s Britain’s Colin Powell? Who’s Britain’s Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Michael Steele?
All this proves is that in general, Europeans (present company excluded) are more informed about world affairs than Americans. (or those folks who reside across the pond, if anyone is pretending to be European).
March 24th, 2008 at 12:17 pmOnce again here is a “typical white conservative” giving you his perspective of black people in a nut shell. It is always nice to hear from a white guy what blacks should be appreciative of. A white guy who thinks he knows the problems of minorities. Same gu who told a young black woman to shut up on MSNBC. I’m Hispanic and if I ever meet Pat I will punch him in the face. Promise
March 24th, 2008 at 12:18 pmWhat is your point Jackie?
March 24th, 2008 at 12:19 pmWell Jackie,
Just so you know, not all soldiers are even citizens yet:
I’m sure they’re suffering even more than the soldiers who get their “feeelings” hurt.
March 24th, 2008 at 12:22 pmWhat happens in Diane Abbott’s precinct is hardly relevant
You can thank me later for enlightening you, dipshit.
March 24th, 2008 at 12:25 pmWords escape me. Look up bigot in a dictionary and the definition will be Pat Buchanan.
I have to say, though, that his blatant bigotry isn’t going to hurt Obama. It will probably help him since most Americans are way beyond the kind of bigotry Buchanan represents.
March 24th, 2008 at 12:31 pmSouth Africa
But of course Mandela wouldnt have gotten that far without the support of white South-Africa
March 24th, 2008 at 12:33 pmThese people need someone to blame for there problems! Zero sense of personal responsibility!!! When has life been fair for anyone?
Comforting words for David Duke supporters.
March 24th, 2008 at 12:51 pmI never said there were no black politicians in Europe.
Nope, but you had never heard of Dianne before my post, then you try to use it as a strawman.
You owe me 5 quid.

That’s because unlike Europe, America was forced to live with the blacks that everyone hated. Europe didn’t have to enact laws because, well, they sent all the blacks to the US instead. Not to mention that the black populations in their country, of those who were there, were infinitely small.
Oh, so the poor USA had to use the slaves that the evil Europeans provided them. It wasn’t their desire to have free workers to build enormous plantations and nice marble mansions. BTW, many of the Europeans slave traders stablished in the USA to become, guess what… rich and Republican Americans. If you’re so fond of history, search for the origin of many of the modern powerful families in Washington. These were the evil Europeans that you criticize.
What country did (and do) more lynching of black folks?
Well, you can’t really lynch black people if you don’t have any, eh? Rich white people got poor white and poor blacks to fight each other to keep their power.
So the excuse for the facts of the many lynchings is that “you had more blacks”?
Weren’t almost exactly the modern Southern Red States the same ones that rebelled against the freedom of slaves?
Oh, so you’re one of the morons who has learned the Cliff Notes version of American history. No wonder. The southern economy was dependent on the black slaves, and the north used it as a vice against the south to win the war. As if there wasn’t rampant racism and also slavery in the North. Hahaha. Seriously, did they not teach you about this in high school? What a waste.
So, now you’re jumping from slavery to racism. Well, nominally , blacks were free at the North, but of course there existed racism too. But you open an interesting thread in your argument: you admit that, without slavery, there can be damaging racism and inequality between whites and blacks. It’s the whole point of the post: Modern “black folk” keeps being treated with racist standards in modern USA by certain people (right now the standard bearer is Buchanan), and you’re agreeing with it, altough inadvertedly. Thanks, sucker.
You probably think Abraham Lincoln wasn’t racist, too. Ahahaha.
I think most modern Republicans are racist. You’re racist. And Lincoln probably was a racist, by modern or past standards. These are simple facts of life. I’m not idolized Lincoln, as many in the USA (your country) have. Your point?
I guess that everything is an improvement over slavery, and a “handout” to them, in your little world.
Well, in my little world, Barack Obama is running for president. Where else in the world has a black man come so far? Yeah, and being a murderous dictator in Africa doesn’t count…
Ha, ha taking advantage of the other party achievements. You’re a Republican, and you can’t hide it. So it’s not “your” achievement.
March 24th, 2008 at 12:56 pmYou probably think Abraham Lincoln wasn’t racist, too.
Ever read his autobiography? He was racist, but realized that for the good of the country, HIS BIGOTRY would have to be sidelined.
Jeez, you are one truly feckless c*nt.
March 24th, 2008 at 1:01 pmI was referring to this site.
Nah, your words are MUCH MORE in line with Buchanan’s litany of racist diatribes, as well as your own insinuations.
March 24th, 2008 at 1:03 pmI think everyone should just get off of DreamCrusher’s back. Take it from this 29 year-old African American girl, you will never get some one like this to “see the light.” You just have to wait for them like them to die off and put your hope in future generations. DreamCrusher will never admit that it was because of Africans and African Americans that whites in America are the most sucessful in the world. If you believe raping all other countries of their natural resources and then selling it to your own people for a 500% profit is success.
We are the ones who made the dream of America realized. “Liberty and justice for all, all men are created equal, equal protection under the law…” those all came true when we did the work. So when you read posts like his just remember, it is because of our sacrifices that he even gets to participate in this forum…and then just let it go.
March 24th, 2008 at 1:03 pmYou just have to wait for them like them to die off and put your hope in future generations.
One of the many, many influences to my screen-name.
March 24th, 2008 at 1:07 pmOh Patrick, Patrick, Patrick. Don’t you realize you’re coming from the wrong direction as soon as you use the term “black folks?” Do you discribe the Irish by calling them “Irish folks” or just the “Irish?” Remember Patrick, you’ll be a member of the “old folks” pretty soon. Sure we introduced Christian salvation to the “folks,” whether they liked it or not! Yes, we help 600,000 slaves…but who helped put them on those ships in the first place? Yes, those “folks” have freedom and prosperity but it took Congressional action to get it to them! How many of your buddies were behind President Johnson’s Civil Rights Act in 1964, Patrick? Patrick asks in his article where is the graditude? What arrogance! Patrick, you missed your calling. You were born 350 years too late. You would have been more comfortable holding a whip on a Virginia plantation.

Very well said. Thank you.
March 24th, 2008 at 1:09 pmWhy are you folks talking to the racist DreamCrusher? Rather than giving it the attention it craves, why not ignore it and flag it. Because that’s all it deserves.
March 24th, 2008 at 1:17 pmFirst, notice how Dream Crusher equates progress of black folks with having wealth. It’s like saying that Don King and Mike Tyson are more progressives than Luther King. Hint to Dream Crusher, having more money doesn’t mean to have better quality of life or enjoy more social benefits.
Now, if you ask me, it is really hard to defend Europe when it comes to the caring of black folks. They have a historical debt to pay for what they’ve done to Africa, because if it wasn’t for Africa, Europe would hardly be wealthy. Just like the US.
March 24th, 2008 at 1:19 pmWay easier than listening to reason!
Your form of “reason” sounds a lot like my toilet flushing.
March 24th, 2008 at 1:32 pmI’m astonished that Cream Cruiser and the foolcantspell would even try to defend Buchanan’s idiocy.
It’s lie a rapist telling the victim that it wasn’t ta abad because it felt good.
SIMPLY… REPULSIVE…
March 24th, 2008 at 1:36 pmStart flagging folks.
It’s time for Cream Cruiser and the foolcantspell to go bye-bye.
March 24th, 2008 at 1:37 pmI can see I got here too late again — Dream Crusher has already trashed the thread.
I will just say this — just when I start thinking that Pat Buchanan might be mellowing out just a little bit, he goes and says something like this. So blacks “benefitted” from slavery? Yeah, probably like Jews “benefitted” from the Holocaust.
And Buchanan claiming that Rev. Wright “ought to go down on his knees and thank God he is an American” — I am reminded of the character Fiddler in “Roots” telling new slave Kunta Kinte “I eats in the big house kitchen. I got pine boards on the floor of my cabin … Now that is fine living for a n****r …”
March 24th, 2008 at 1:41 pmRace-baiters? Isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black?… and I know you don’t want to be black so you may want to re-phrase.
Why are you begging for people to admit that Blacks have it best in the US? EVERYONE HAS IT BEST IN THE US!!! Well,… kinda.
America is “best’ for EVERYONE because of what Black Americans did make America less hypocritical. And I’m not just talking about surviving slavery!
We are stil lhypocritical, but when people who think like you die off we’ll be closer. Here’s hoping!
March 24th, 2008 at 1:46 pmThe Digital Brown Shirts return. If you can’t beat them in a discussion… force them out and shut them up! Love it. How progressive.
It has nothing to do with “beating them in a discussion” and everything to do with not tolerating racism. DC is a bigot through and through and its posts here prove it. The fact that TP is allowing it to post its bigotry doesn’t say anything flattering about TP.
March 24th, 2008 at 1:46 pmBuchanan is joining McCain now in senility Perhaps they can team up for a checkers game at the old folks’ home.
There is no determining how Buananan arrives at his very rich-white man-in America comment. He is completely out of touch. And for a troll here to use a half-dozen celebrities to justify how “good” blacks have it in America demonstrates how ignorant some people remain, despite full knowledge and history that refutes that.
March 24th, 2008 at 1:48 pmJust call him racist and kick him off our site. Way easier than listening to reason! I love your logic!! so Hitleresque of you!
There is no “reason” in anything either of these two racist trolls are saying. It is hate speech and bigotry through and through. I do believe that crosses the line in TP’s rules for posting here. For some reason known only to themselves, they are refusing to take care of these bigoted trolls.
TP, this can and will come back to bite you.
March 24th, 2008 at 1:49 pm…and after he said all that, he put his white pointy hood back covering his face…

March 24th, 2008 at 2:23 pmI never said you were racists. You’re ill informaed. And while that’s a typical trait of racists, I never said you were one.
You started this conversation with race-baiting and when people began to respond you called them race-baiters. That’s the pot calling the kettle black. Comprende?
I LOOOVE that you never actually comment on my posts. Do you not agree that America is “best” for EVERYONE? And it’s because of what Blacks did for equal rights, equal opportunity FOR ALL…white, blacks and everyone else?
You don’t have to answer that. I’ll just say, you’re welcome!
March 24th, 2008 at 2:25 pmTP, this can and will come back to bite you.
“report abuse” isn’t as effective as emailing them with the truth that they’re helping build a “racist” case against their own site.
March 24th, 2008 at 2:26 pmI’m no consevative and I despise Pat Buchannan, but most of the comments here involve either putting words into his mouth or emphasizing what’s on the ‘other hand’.

If only those, forgone black inventors could be given their respect by the so called white suppressive establishments, then we wouldn’t have people like “buchanose” and DreamCrusher, thinking ignorantly the way they think.

I’m going to have to see an unbiased study before I’ll accept this assertion at face value. After all, blacks had little to do with the Industrial Revolution and the US didn’t have any colonies in Africa.
March 24th, 2008 at 3:19 pmI’m going to have to see an unbiased study before I’ll accept this assertion at face value.

You call that flippant remark a study?
March 24th, 2008 at 5:19 pmThe part where its sheer volume eclipsed all paid labor before, during, and since.
Then how stupid must one be to assume that such a huge, unpaid labor force didn’t benefit the U.S.A.?
Why the hell do you suppose undocumented, illegal workers are welcomed by the agriculture industry? Cause they’re philanthropic, or concerned with profits?
March 24th, 2008 at 5:37 pmYou call that flippant remark a study?
If you require a “study” to even entertain the notion of a concept, then yes, for you, that remark is a “study”, tool.
March 24th, 2008 at 5:39 pmMy fellow Americans. I’d like to take this opportunity to apologize to all African Americans dead or alive for fattys face vile words slobbering down its fat lips with such torrent of evil racism. I know all we do is keep stabbing you in your wounds. As you all know by now not all white people are “like this moron and his patsies” I repeat I am so sorry and remember some of us are quite normal… Please don’t fear us anymore because we have all the power, but mostly stop laughing at our stupid, empty greedy ignorant, selfish disgusting psychopaths…I mean religious leaders and politicians.

“If you require a “study” to even entertain the notion of a concept, then yes, for you, that remark is a “study”, tool.”
It’s not a question of a “concept”. You are apparently claiming that US economy as it stands is largely the product of the efforts of slaves prior to the Civil War, and I’m saying that I’m skeptical of that claim.
Of course slavery helped create a significant chunk of the wealth that existed up to that point, but then again, the Civil War wiped out a lot of that wealth. And the Industrial Revolution and the Westward Expansion contributed a great deal, yet slavery had little to do with that.
All I’m asking for is a percentage and a cite. I’m interested in the question of how much of the present US economy can be attributed to the legacy of slavery.
Meanwhile, you can get a better understanding of what my views actually are here:

No it didn’t. Slavery is still alive and well in many farms and factories in the United States. Only today’s slaveowners don’t use whips and shackles to keep their slaves – they use debt, death threats, and racketeering.
