African-Americans are amazed at how much better they are treated in France. I would say every country in Western Europe treats them better just by having progressive policies such as universal healthcare and free/affordable college.

No it didn’t. Slavery is still alive and well in many farms and factories in the United States. Only today’s slaveowners don’t use whips and shackles to keep their slaves – they use debt, death threats, and racketeering.

It’s not a question of a “concept”. You are apparently claiming that US economy as it stands is largely the product of the efforts of slaves prior to the Civil War, and I’m saying that I’m skeptical of that claim.

Of course slavery helped create a significant chunk of the wealth that existed up to that point, but then again, the Civil War wiped out a lot of that wealth. And the Industrial Revolution and the Westward Expansion contributed a great deal, yet slavery had little to do with that.

All I’m asking for is a percentage and a cite. I’m interested in the question of how much of the present US economy can be attributed to the legacy of slavery.

Then how stupid must one be to assume that such a huge, unpaid labor force didn’t benefit the U.S.A.?

Why the hell do you suppose undocumented, illegal workers are welcomed by the agriculture industry? Cause they’re philanthropic, or concerned with profits?
