Cheney: Obama and Clinton are ‘wannabes.’»

In an interview with ABC News yesterday, Vice President Dick Cheney asserted that President Bush “carries the biggest burden” of the Iraq war and even compared staying the course in Iraq to the pardoning of President Nixon. But Cheney also took time out to insult Sens. Barack Obama (D-IL) and Hillary Clinton (D-NY) for “announc[ing] that the solution in Iraq is to withdraw,” calling them “wannabes.” Watch it:

Dick Cheney is a mad man and a murderer.

  2. ralph the wonder llama Says:

Well, in the strictest sense of the term, yes, they are “wannabes” because they both “wanna be” president.

However, I think the Dick was using the term in the pejorative sense, which illustrates either his desperation or his diminishing mental capacity reflected in a limited vocabulary.

He nailed the trifecta in dumbass out of touch blatherings.

    Way to go (you) Dick.

  7. Badmoodman Says:

Yes Dick, “wannabe” as in, “I don’t wannabe in Vietnam!!”

  8. Cats r Flyfishn Says:

When he mentions pulling out of Afghanistan, he must be referring to his decision and boy Bush’s decision to place 90% our military operations in Iraq and leave 10% with Afghanistan. After all, the Taliban is regaining control in Afghanistan and where the heck is Osama bin Laden?

  9. Fritz Says:

I guess he can afford to be so nasty and arrogant because he knows nothing will ever be done - there will be no accountability.

Too bad for you Dick. One of those “wannabes” is a “gunnabe”.

  15. hellinabucket Says:

    Thank you Mr. Mondale:

In a blistering close to his 30-minute presentation at the Humphrey Institute for Public Policy, Mondale said that in looking back on his tenure as Jimmy Carter’s vice president, he took pride in three claims: “We told the truth; we obeyed the law; and we kept the peace.” The Bush-Cheney administration, Mondale said, “can’t say any of that with a straight face about those first four years. And it’s cost us terribly. Let’s not make that mistake again.”

    “Better hope you shredded everything…”

Well said, Wayne. Sadly, though, I fear nobody in the Bush Crime Family will EVER be held accountable, beyond the slap on the wrist received by Scooter.

  18. gummitch Says:

WTF is he talking about — “that’s exactly what happened in Afghanistan”? Is he conceding that we never should have pulled forces out of Afghanistan in order to invade Iraq? Somehow, I don’t think so.

I can’t imagine who thinks Cheney is doing the GOP any good with these comments; the only people who will be nodding their heads and muttering, “yup, yup” are the mouthbreathers who still think Bush is doing a heck of a job. If I was strategizing for the Republicans, I’d tell him to shut it and keep a low profile until November.

  19. McWars Says:

If I were you, Dick, on January 21st, 2009, I’d seek to avoid accountablity by hoping that the fourth heart attack will be the charm.

    Goodbye, you clogged rump.

Hmmm…maybe Cheney has been hypnotized by the Democrats to spew this twaddle until the election. If he doesn’t shut his piehole, most Americans will be reminded this is exactly the mindset they are trying to get away from.

  22. mary Says:

I agree Witch1 - Cheney makes me sick. Just looking at his picture negatively affects my immune system.

“He’ll make a decision based on what he thinks it takes to succeed” he said in that interview talking about Bush.

I’m pretty sure he MEANT to say, “He’ll do what I tell him to do.”

There were so many lies in that interview!

Too bad this man has access to better healthcare than the rest of us.

  24. hellinabucket Says:

Well said gummitch. I’m hoping the more Cheney speaks the more people see just how out of touch and dangerous he has been. I do hope people see that all who side with him (and the republican party) are the problem and not working towards the solution.

Bush, Cheney and this administration has damaged the GOP for years to come. Now we need to get the democrats to focus on what’s good for this country and get past their in house bickering and have a united front.

  25. misshusseinmolly Says:

Of course, Cheney was using the term in the pejorative sense — suggesting in a sneering way that Clinton and Obama are woefully unqualified and their chances of getting elected are laughable, without saying so in so many words.

All presidential candidates are “wannabes” — when was the last time a party had to draft a candidate and then drag him kicking and screaming to the White House?

And let’s not forget that Cheney himself was a “wannabe” — so bad that when tasked with searching for the most appropriate veep candidate for Bush, he came up with…himself!

  28. hussein toasterhead Says:

Body of War is an intimate and transformational feature documentary about the true face of war today. Meet Tomas Young, 25 years old, paralyzed from a bullet to his spine - wounded after serving in Iraq for less than a week.

    Body of War
is Tomas’ coming home story as he evolves into a new person, coming to terms with his disability and finding his own unique and passionate voice against the war. The film is produced and directed by Phil Donahue and Ellen Spiro, and features two original songs by Eddie Vedder. Body of War is a naked and honest portrayal of what it’s like inside the body, heart and soul of this extraordinary and heroic young man.

Body of War unfolds on two parallel tracks. On the one hand, we see Tomas evolving into a powerful voice against the war as he struggles to deal with the complexities of a paralyzed body. And on the other, we see the historic debate unfolding in the Congress about going to war in Iraq.

The film opens as Tomas and his fiance Brie prepare for their wedding. However, because of his disability, we see how the simple everyday activities for Tomas are involved and challenging. War is personal and the film takes us into the skin and bones of what it means to have no control over basic bodily functions.

    So?

  42. JMOHR Says:

One thing that Tweety has been dead on when it comes to liberals and Democrats. We need to know how to wage a battle of ridicule. We need to publicly laugh at Cheney and Bush.

Call Cheney a coward when it comes to his own patriotism. Yes, five deferment Cheney would not risk his life, however, you are suckers for letting him risk your sons and daughters to make him feel like a man to make up for his cowardice.

Call Bush the wannabe. Talk about wannabe’s - Bush wanted to be the great Commander-In-Chief and look at how he screwed up Iraq. Even the Republicans in Congress admit that he was incompetent. Look at the great free market, global deal maker. Yeah, old wanabe Bush will be the only president to have two recessions in on presidency. Look at the great domestic leader. Old wanabe Bush did so well in saving the country from Katrina.

Then we need to take on McCain. However, this kind of response to the absolute pigs that occupy the White House should be instantaneous, consistent and constant. We need to set the narrative.

  47. hellinabucket Says:

Well said JMOHR. I have already done this when confronting the ones that still cling to the neocon dream and are willing to stand up for their beliefs.

The incompetence from this administration is undeniable. The single minded power grab is exposed once you point out the failure after failure of this administration.

My question to every republican is how can they square themselves behind a candidate that they thought was worse than Bush back in 2000?

  48. The Shadow Says:

For all of the idiots who defend this idiot, ask yourself one question. Where was he during Viet Nam? Why did he ask for a receive deferment after deferment? Why did President Bush join the Texas Air National Guard instead of going to Viet Nam? If they believe in war so much, then why didn’t they fight when they were young healthy men? There was a draft back then, but both Cheney and Bush avoided it. Why? They expect young men now to volunteer to fight their war, but they wouldn’t fight their (Viet Nam) war. I can question them because I served right after Viet Nam in 1975 until the 1980s and I wanted to go to Viet Nam as a young man, but wasn’t old enough. Not only that three of my brothers also served in the Military including my oldest brother who was drafted as fought in Viet Nam. My uncle also fought in Viet Nam. I visited the Viet Nam wall to honor a family friend who died during Viet Nam. His name was “McIllvery Mays”, look for his name on the wall if you go. He was only 18 years old when he died in 1966, so believe me I know what I’m talking about. Many of the young men I knew served in Viet Nam, and many of the soldiers I served with in the Army during the 1970s were Viet Nam veterans including both of my Drill Sergeant in basic training. I saw the scars they suffered both physically and mentally. I always looked up to and honored them. I sam a Army Sergeant Major with drinking problem because of Viet Nam over 12 years afer the war. He drank everyday because he fought for over 6 years in Viet Nam. This man was my hero, but that war clearly had a negative effect on his life. When he was forced to go into rehab or be forceably discharged, I almost cried.

There is no greater burden than carrying the decision of the ultimate sacrifice by a loved one.

Cheney has no right to diminish the suffering and the “burden” that the families of all soldiers are dealing with now and for the rest of their lives.

At the end of their term (god willing) this administration will be given the proper exit they deserve. No matter what the law and god decide for them it will not equal the pain these true patriots experience.

  56. Kay Says:

Boy, when this piece of shit finally leaves the Crime House, they will have to do some mighty exterminating.

  57. krazeeinjun Says:

Dick “5 Vietnam Draft deferments” Cheney has no credibility, none whatsoever, on the Iraq issue — or any war issue for that matter. Aside from being wrong on every aspect of his and Bush’s disastrous decision to invade Iraq, this is the cowardly ass-hat who, while braver and less fortunate kids were dying in the rice paddies of southeast Asia “had other priorities” like racking up a couple of DWI’s and knocking up his high-school sweetheart. Cheney ought to shut his sickly pie-hole and just stick to duties he’s good at - you know - like getting sh%t-faced and unloading a round of buckshot in his friend’s faces.

  58. Kay Says:

Can you imagine the World Party when this piece of shit dies?

  68. AngryOne Says:

In another unfortunate case of premature Iraq elation, the Wall Street Journal last week celebrated the decline and fall of Iraqi Shiite leader Moqtada Al-Sadr. Echoing the “bring ‘em on” taunt of their former boss, ex-Bush advisers Dan Senor and Roman Martinez triumphantly asked “Whatever Happened to Moqtada?” But as the renewed turmoil in Baghdad and violent chaos in Basra suggest, the answer may be, “he’s back.”

  72. Zimzone Says:

PBS’s Frontline did a 2 1/2 hour show last night called ‘Bush’s War’. The second part runs tonight, I believe.

Cheney is everywhere in it. From the point he recommends himself for VP, to where he stiffs Colon Powell & has Libby write the UN speech, ad nauseum.

Big Dick comes across as, well, a big dick.

Watch it if you have time or interest. Even though it’s a little like re-living a nightmare, they’ve done a good job producing it.

  73. paleolib Says:

If ABC insists on giving The Dick a microphone it could at least ask VP Cheney to evaluate the performance of Sec Def Cheney in 1991 when he insisted that the war to free Kuwait’s oil did not justify overthrowing Saddam’s regime. Did he simply “misspeak” in 1991? For that matter it could ask why Sec Def Cheney failed to notice the increasing instability in Afghanistan that followed the Soviet withdrawal and eventual collapse of the puppet communist government — all of which happened on his watch.

When it comes to the essential test of the trade debate, Clinton has been identified as a liar — a put-in-boldface-type “L-I-A-R” liar.

    And a corporate whore.

When the rest of us are asked to do above our normal work duties, we call it multi-tasking or the like. If your a Congress person, it’s called politics as usual. It must be nice to be in a job where you’re not held accountable for your actions…or lack there of.
Hey, how many of you would pay to see Veep Cheney being waterboarded? It’s not torture.
As I told my Senator, I don’t mind if Dicky stays until the end of his term, provided he’s tried for treason. That’s a capital offense, afterall.
