Shortly after being crowned executive editor of the Washington Times, John Solomon, a former AP and Washington Post reporter, claimed that the “style of journalism” at the Times under his leadership is “going to be about being fair and balanced and accurate and precise.” But U.S. News reports that Solomon assured the folks at the conservative Heritage Foundation last night that his days at the Post didn’t infiltrate his conservative bona fides:
Whew. Readers of and workers at the conservative Washington Times can breathe easier now. New Editor John Solomon, who toiled at the Washington Post for a year and before that at the AP, says he didn’t drink the Post ’s Kool-Aid. “I didn’t get the bug,” he told an intimate gathering last night at the Heritage Foundation
Solomon appears to now be telling the truth. Shortly after he took the reins at the Times, the newspaper published a front page article baselessly claiming the military “fears” Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL).
That should bring relief to those inside and outside the paper who had worried that the recent hire was an indication that its owners wanted to tilt it center-left.
Who the hell would worry that John Solomon might tilt anything “center-left”, aside from paranoid tighty-righties?
And why are so many of them overfed, pasty and bald?
March 26th, 2008 at 5:40 pmbaselessly claiming the military “fears” Sen. Barack Obama….
But the military is contributing large amounts to Barack’s campaign, hoping that someone with some common sense and decency will see to them getting the hell out of Iraq as soon as possible.
Solomon looks like a Cabbage Patch Kid gone bad.
March 26th, 2008 at 5:47 pmwill remainpartisan????
March 26th, 2008 at 5:49 pmWhen will the era of truth telling begin?
Nobody should be surprised that the Washington Times will continue to be a conservative mouthpiece under Solomon. What they should take away from this is that Solomon was at the WashingtonPost for 15 years!
Anyone who still thinks that the media is liberal should remember that people like Solomon and Judith Miller and Michael Gordon and Brit Hume have alway been inside the so-called liberal institutions like the Post, the New York Times, ABC News, and the rest.
News Corpse, The Internet’s Chronicle Of Media Decay.
March 26th, 2008 at 5:51 pmWhat Mr. Solomon is drinking now comes straight from “The Father”, Reverend Sun Myung Moon. I’m sure Mr. Solomon is proud to be working for Father, as all Good Children of the True Church should. Just ask the Bushes.
Hey Righties – ya think you’d stand a snowball’s chance without the generous financial support of that Korean guy that claims to be the Second Coming of Jesus? You guys proud of that??
March 26th, 2008 at 6:03 pmSolomon’s a complete hack no matter where he is.
March 26th, 2008 at 6:05 pmWhen will the media cover the lunatic ravings of Rev. Sun Myung Moonie?
Why do conservatives hate America by supporting an America hating Rev. Moon who wants to destroy America?

March 26th, 2008 at 6:12 pmWe print what we’re told.
Sieg Heil.
Thanks for nothing, schlub.
March 26th, 2008 at 6:16 pm“Fair and balanced” has a new, clear meaning (which has little to do with the English language). “Fair and balanced” means right wing propaganda.
March 26th, 2008 at 6:23 pmSolomon assures conservatives Washington Times will remain partisan.
Leave it to the garbage GOP and their imbecilic backers to redefine what a “newspaper” is supposed to be …….In a bad way.
March 26th, 2008 at 6:24 pmIn a righteous universe, anyone daring to speak the words John, Solomon, Journalism, and Integrity in the same sentence would instantly be on the receiving end of a divinely-rendered red hot lightning bolt which would leave the offending utterer of such blasphemy a smoking pile of gelatinous flotsam.
Just saying . . .
March 26th, 2008 at 7:11 pmThe Washington Times has never made a profit.
I guess it’s your typical neocon business model.
March 26th, 2008 at 7:23 pm#12
Ain’t that the truth. The Moonie Times loses about 1 million dollars a month. Ever pick up a copy? There’s hardly any advertising in it. I thought right wingers are all about business and profit?
Then again, when the self proclaimed Messiah is the owner of the paper, he doesn’t care if he makes any money, it’s all about having an outlet to disseminate lies and propaganda.
March 26th, 2008 at 7:34 pmCrackpot Realism.
“Loren Thompson, who runs the Lexington Institute and stays in touch with defense industry executives, said Mr. Obama is difficult to categorize.”
Not the military. This is Rovian spin.
March 26th, 2008 at 7:46 pmOh Ha! He was a hack at the Washington Post – He will be a hack at the Washington Times.
His articles were so stupid – he probably got fired.
March 26th, 2008 at 8:40 pmLook up some of his about Bill Clinton.
March 26th, 2008 at 8:40 pmXisithrus,
….and the Lexington Institute is a right-wing think-tank funded by the defense industry and Exxon/Mobil. They advocate MORE privatization of our military. Gee, I wonder why? It couldn’t be because they are funded by the defense industry, could it?
Solomon served his neo-con masters well, and has been richly rewarded.
March 26th, 2008 at 8:47 pmNew rule…
If you work for a radical religious cult leader, you are not allowed to criticize anyone else as being a “Kool-aid drinker”.
March 26th, 2008 at 8:48 pmBeing a professional liar pays very well, for those that have the stomach for it.
March 26th, 2008 at 9:31 pmI f()ckin hate these guys.
March 26th, 2008 at 9:48 pmI would call John Solomon a disgrace to journalism, but one needs to actually have been a journalist at some point to qualify for that distinction.
March 26th, 2008 at 10:03 pmWe will first get rid of the stupid politicians and then we are going to get rid of newspeople who’s work is based on a agenda that serves no one except distortion. The truth always wins in the end.
March 26th, 2008 at 10:21 pmMaybe the entire Washington Times staff can have a mass wedding to satisfy the dead leader. I call Norplant in the punch, that would be some scary ugly spawn if the guy that runs that rag is any indication.
March 26th, 2008 at 10:38 pmJohn Sullivan is akin to your common concern troll: They can keep up their act for a while before they lose it and demonstrate their true wingnuttiness. For years, Sullivan toiled away at the WaPo pretending to be an objective journalist, all the time writing spurious hit pieces on Democrats by inflating non-events into apparent scandals. We’re all better off the mask of objectivity has been ripped from his smug face forever.
March 26th, 2008 at 10:39 pmI wouldn’t wipe my butt with this rag. Another thing, if the conservatives want partisanship rather than consensus and compromise they’re asking for war. After awhile the nasty nature of these people makes others nasty too. Nothing is sacred if they are going for slash and burn.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:15 pm.
Because what America needs more than ever is a Fourth Column WITH an objective.

March 27th, 2008 at 12:44 amEditors do what the Publisher tells them. The Publisher decides on the political slant of the paper and signs the editors’ paychecks, thereby they own them. The editors makes sure the paper comes out on time, handle the day-to-day assignments/aspects and that the subscription rate only drops slightly or somehow, miraculously stays even during their tenure. That’s how the daily newspaper journalism world works, sadly.
Solomon is just being the a$$clown for his boss. But Solomon probably wanted to slack off anyways and it’s not like the Times is a real source of news. Hell, it’s sad when you only see one of their reporters on the 700 Club…just as a token gesture that they still exist.
March 27th, 2008 at 3:59 amAnyone who goes to work for the washington times knows what she/he is working for. Anyone reading the wt is like someone listening to rush or beck or …, it’s only to reinforce fraudulent “knowledge.” It is just disheartening to see wt “reporters” given their time on Washington Journal.
March 27th, 2008 at 8:42 amHis article about the militarry is similar to his reporting at the Post. Factless. The Ombudsman at the ‘Post,’ Deborah Howell, ripped one of his pieces to shreds, politely, when she said, “there is no there, there I believe about the Edward’s house purchase. Maybe not. Anyone who would think he didn’t give the secret handshake, start to convert to ‘Moonieism,’ and genuflect or kiss the ring or what ever they do to submit to the loonie owner to join the ‘Times,’ is simply loonie themselves. This is a hire similar to what Richarf Mellon Scaife has at his papers editorial boards.
March 27th, 2008 at 11:18 amJohn Solomon should be called to account on whether he will accede to the mad demands of his employer, the Reverend Moon, seen in my new documentary screaming at Times staff that they must leverage the power of the paper to “lead the way to prevent free sex.”
