Last week, Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace appeared on Fox and Friends and took the hosts “to task” for their “two hours of Obama bashing.” He criticized their coverage as “excessive” and “somewhat distorting.” Now, however, Wallace says that looking back, he went too far:
“I didn’t have any second thoughts about the substance because I still believe what I said was right,” said Mr. Wallace. “But after the fact, you do think to yourself–on a professional level with colleagues I very much like and respect–should I have done that off camera?”
“It’s a close call,” said Mr. Wallace. “I’m not sure I’d do it again.”
Wallace also revealed that a Fox News executive sent him an e-mail after his Fox and Friends appearance to say, “isn’t this the kind of thing we should be talking about off camera, not on camera?”

He didn’t say that he changed his mnd and the Obama-bashing was hunky-dory; he said that perhaps what he said should have been said off-camera, as a professional courtesy.
Whether those particular colleagues merit “professional courtesy” is another debate, but it still sounds to me like Chris Wallace stands by his criticism of the excessive Obama-bashing.

What a strange process of deduction this unit employs:
::Start with off-topic problem.
::Input inaccurate representation of the data.
::Equate resulting spurious conclusion to different spurious conclusion of unrelated data.
::Present unsupported equation as established fact.

So, he just admitted that Fox reports from the “conservative point of view”. You gotta love his disingenuous statement that the conservative view doesn’t get reflected in the mainstream media. If that’s the case, then why is John McCain still being called a “moderate” and a “maverick” by the mainstream press? Why hasn’t the mainstream press reported on all of McCains gaffs but printed Obama’s Wright story and Clinton’s Bosnia story ad nauseum? There is nothing “liberal” about our MSM press. But, their day of reckoning is coming.

He does say that he stands by his statement. If he were going to make this statement on-air it would probably be better to have aired it as a piece on his show rather than as a five minute diatribe at the end of another show.

March 26th, 2008 at 1:03 pmI’m putting this here just for some attention
McCain’s Speech contains plagiarism and recycled spech.
McCain today:
I detest war. It might not be the worst thing to befall human beings, but it is wretched beyond all description. When nations seek to resolve their differences by force of arms, a million tragedies ensue. The lives of a nation’s finest patriots are sacrificed. Innocent people suffer and die. Commerce is disrupted; economies are damaged; strategic interests shielded by years of patient statecraft are endangered as the exigencies of war and diplomacy conflict. Not the valor with which it is fought nor the nobility of the cause it serves, can glorify war. Whatever gains are secured, it is loss the veteran remembers most keenly. Only a fool or a fraud sentimentalizes the merciless reality of war. However heady the appeal of a call to arms, however just the cause, we should still shed a tear for all that is lost when war claims its wages from us.”
a) Rear Admiral Timothy Ziemer, July 4 1996–Seawolf Assoc. speech :
“…to the Navy for sending us to war. At the same time, none of us feel that in Vietnam there is a romantic remembrance. War is awful and when nations seek to resolve their differences by fighting, a million tragedies ensue. Look at Bosnia today. The story line should be hatred and ignorance. War is wretched beyond description. Nothing, not the valor with which it is fought, nor the cause with which it serves can glorify war. Neither do we share the exhilaration of combat ”
http://www.seawolf.org/assn/ziemer.asp
b) McCain, speech at the RNC in NY, 2004
War is an awful business. The lives of a nation’s finest patriots are sacrificed. Innocent people suffer. Commerce is disrupted, economies are damaged. Strategic interests shielded by years of statecraft are endangered as the demands of war and diplomacy conflict. However just the cause, we should shed a tear for all that is lost when war claims its wages from us. But there is no avoiding this war. We tried that, and our reluctance cost us dearly. And while this
war has many components, we can’t make victory on the battlefield harder to achieve so that our diplomacy is easier to conduct.
That is not just an expression of our strength. It’s a measure of our wisdom.”
http://www.command-post.org/2004/2_archives/2004_08.html
also, Bush in Las Vegas, 2008:
“The first — our most important job in government — whether it be the federal government, state government, or local government — is to protect you. And remember the lessons of September the 11th: that oceans cannot protect us, that we face cold-blooded killers who, in our case, resorted to mass murder to send a message.
NcCain speech today:
“We learned through the tragic experience of September 11 that passive defense alone cannot protect us. We must protect our borders.”

Bilbo Hussein, had Wallace done this behind closed doors, yes, we would never have heard about it.
But that’s a different issue than my beef with TP. The headline presents this as if Wallace flip-flopped.
He did not, as far as I could tell.
Maybe his adjusted position — that his concerns should have been voiced off-camera rather than on — is a reflection of a talking to from Faux brass. But the simpler explanation — that he actually recognized the need for professional courtesy — is perfectly reasonable.
The only real problem with accepting this explanation is that Faux has made its living off of on-camera disputes that make its favored side look good, and tis is one time when such a dispute made them look bad. But I’m willing to give even a conservative the benefit of the doubt if it makes more sense to me.

Obama’s been very honest and upfront about what he’s heard around his preacher, especially coming from a politician. Next to that, I’m not sure he was referring to all white people, just racists. Sometimes our friends say things out of frustration, true or not, and shouldn’t disown them simply because of something unagreeable. Reverend Wright, the whole person, did baptize Obama’s daughters.
I don’t think Hillary’s a better candidate for claiming she would have left that church. This is the same candidate who claims this election is all about national security (codeword for more quagmires), with not enough reference to our abadoned domestic priorities.
This Reverend Wright obsession, I believe, has more appeal to the plastic-wearing patriots who want you to believe that Wright is sending Obama to the White House to do his anti-white bidding.
I’ve said this before, and I don’t want to make it seem like I’m trying to intimidate you, but Obama is not running for President of Black America, he’s running for President of the United States on behalf of Black America.

________________________________________
1) Obama did NOT say that “most white people are racist.” He used the words “typical white person” to describe his grandmother (an unfortunate choice of words, it turns out) because he wished to emphasize that her thinking wasn’t unique. Since Obama is half white himself, with many white relatives and friends, I think he can make the statement that there are white people who behave this way, and do it with credibility.
2) The only evidence we have that Obama’s church is racist is a few snippets of Wright sermons — ignoring every other aspect of that church, as well as the rest of the body of Wright’s work. Making a judgment of the church based on that is as wrong as Bill Frist diagnosing Terry Schiavo’s case based on a short snippet of videotape.
3) Why should Obama be required to attend a “mixed” church to avoid accusations of racism? Is there some kind of mandatory white/black ratio he needs to adhere to? I am a Presbyterian, and the church I attend is mostly white, although anyone is welcome. I don’t see how this makes me a racist.
Let’s judge Obama by his own words and deeds, not those of others. And so far, I have not seen or heard anything from Obama himself that tells me he hates white people or hates America, as his opponents would have me believe.
You can fling around the “racist” label all you want, but it won’t stick with me.

Or the Hypocrisy of the Hillary (and me) hating liberal blogmates that call me a troll when I criticize Obama, yet have no problems criticizing Hillary themselves… That’s called Hypocrisy - something one would think my fellow GOP fighting bloggers would avoid - yet here we are… It’s sad to see folks like Bilbo Zooey behave more like Tracy2 and whine about anyone that isn’t their candidate supporter being a troll, while they all slam Hillary in a great act of Hypocrisy. Very sad!
March 26th, 2008 at 1:46 pmRHF has to fling around the “racist” label, as he has no arguments whatsoever except his own racism and the lies that his racism and fear generate. This is proven by the fact that rather than respond to arguments, he will resort to hatred, bigotry and smearing, just like a Republican.
March 26th, 2008 at 1:48 pm” Very sad!”
Very sad indeed that you are blind to your own immature behaviors. Plenty of posters have plenty of criticisms of all candidates; yours are always ad hominem lies based on hate and fear, rather than reasonable, provable points. Your opinions are not facts, and you seem to have the same hatred for facts, ironically, as Republicans. The only logical conclusion to reach is that you are a racist.
March 26th, 2008 at 1:51 pmWhat misshusseinmolly said! TP might as well erase #58!
RHF: There are two democratic candidates in this customary primary process. Most of us on this blog have reached a consensus to support one. Feel free to disagree, but please don’t do the right’s bidding by getting so jumpy about it.
March 26th, 2008 at 1:51 pmYou like the rest of the hopium crowd act like children, and this is a prime example! Grow up, and act like an adult for a change!
This being said by a idiot troll who calls us the “hopium crowd”.
Proud hopium smoker along with being a proud Hussein supporter. Also someone who doesn’t swallow Hillary’s lies and twist Obama’s words.
March 26th, 2008 at 1:53 pmIt is sad that the democratic party is allowing this fighting like children. When either Mrs. Clinton or Mr. Obama will be far superior to Mr. McCain.
I would prefer Obama but I will not turn my back on what has disgusted me for the last 7 years. I will not stand silently by while another missguided republican tries to save his party at the expense of the USA.
If Mrs. Clinton climbs to the top I will loudly proclaim my support for her. If it’s Mr. Obama I will do the same.
I hope the democratic party can see above this current infighting and move towards the correct path for this country.
March 26th, 2008 at 1:53 pmConsidering how crazy and dishonest the hopium addicts have become, we all know it’s far more likely that if you don’t get the results you want from the convention you’ll all vote for Nader, not vote, or vote for McCain, so stop the projection hobbitard!
Even though I thoroughly despise Hillary Rove Clinton at this point, I will vote for her if she is able to steal the nomination. I will have to go home afterwards and take a very long hot shower to get rid of the stench I will feel, but I will do it. I’ll do it because I love my country more than I despise HRC.
The thing I despise about her the most is that she is willing to throw the election to McCain if she can’t have the prize. To me that makes her a traitor to her country.

You do realize the pastor said that 911 was caused by the government and the actions of American whites - right?
__________________________________
Um…not exactly. In fact, Wright used the word “we” (not ‘those white people’) repeatedly when describing the actions of America on the rest of the world. And even when he said that 9/11 was “chickens coming home to roost”, he was quoting a white man who said that (and made the quote attribution in his sermon).
Check it out — that is, if your set-in-concrete mind allows you to do so:
http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/ 2008/ 03/ 21/ the-full-story-behind-rev-jeremiah-wrights-911-sermon/
And another point — Tracy2 said “must believe 9/11 was an inside U.S. government job.” It was THAT comparison that I was criticizing. Wright never made this claim at all, or even suggested the possibility. If you have proof to the contrary, by all means, share it with us.

One last thing on this subject. I have not heard or read any Obama supporters who say they will vote for McCain if Obama isn’t the candidate. On the other hand I have heard and read where many Hillary supporters say they WILL vote for McCain if Obama is the candidate. This just tells me how many bigots there still are out there in this once fine country.

March 26th, 2008 at 2:05 pmI wish I knew what to say to provide the unity that the progressives of America need so desperatly right now.
We must stop this infighting in public. We have a common enemy and that is the republicans. No matter how much we dislike one or the other of our democratic candidates there is no way either of them can be worse than another republican.
March 26th, 2008 at 2:06 pmAll the D’s are doing is running a primary.
All the press is doing is its very best to make mountains out of molehills and high drama out of tedium.
The breathless cliffhanger that the press is trying to use to maintain ratings is infecting people’s thinking, and creating a crisis where there is, and should be, none.
I will not allow Chris Matthews desperation to keep me watching, listening, and worrying to drive me into a panic about whether “the democratic party will even exist one year from now” or any other such hysterical nonsense.
All it does is play to the R’s favor. In fact, it’s exactly the kind of reverse-psychology they thrive on.
We need to calm down, stick to the fundamentals, and play the game to beat the R’s in November, come what may between now and then.
The best way to do that is to continue to recap the R’s record, and marvel at the fact there’s anyone left alive who is shameless and cynical enough to call themselves a Republican.
March 26th, 2008 at 2:16 pm…if you want to keep your job you go there and say: “I didn’t have any second thoughts about the substance because I still believe what I said was right,” said Mr. Wallace. “But after the fact, you do think to yourself–on a professional level with colleagues I very much like and respect–should I have done that off camera?”

I don’t object to people criticizing Obama on his record and I can even live with people who are essentially making sh!t up by tying him to comments they don’t like that he didn’t even make himself. However, the behavior I object to here is the characterization of any Obama supporters as being stupid, childish or vacant (or “hopium addicts”). That is the behavior I consider “trollish”.

March 26th, 2008 at 3:53 pmAre you incapable of posting on-topic?
Were you in church with Mr. Obama?
You weren’t?!? I wasn’t either!
So since neither of us is able to frame those remarks in the context they were given and Mr. Obama is then maybe you and I should listen to the answer Obama gave… asked and answered- move on.
You don’t like his answer?!? Well, don’t vote for him- that’s your right.
But don’t ask me to participate in YOUR racist b*llsh*t just ’cause you’re ‘outraged’ while at the same time defending the outrageous statements that Bush and Cheney made prior to Iraq… well, I think that’s outright delusional and deceitful- not deluded.
If I were Obama’s advisor Tracy, I would have advised against giving the speech… ’cause these attacs are laughable… here’s your answer:
“One day I’m not black enough and the next I’m a black racist… these scare tactics won’t work.”
It’s ridiculous- that’s what Wallace was saying- and Wallace was right. And you and Fox Snooze look ridiculous too as you fixate and obsess (absess? it does seem like a pussy ooze…) about it.

It’s not programmed to scan for topic in its trolling matrix. Its design is primitive. The programmers only had enough processor power to ingest talking points and spew them out randomly.
Hence its frequent incoherence.
Word is that the RNC is getting pretty impatient for the arrival of the new Tracy3 model. Rumors are that it will be able to at least maintain internal coherence, so posts like the one that got pulled will be avoided. Can’t guarantee on-topic, though. That function is a little beyond the budget the RNC has approved.

Well, putting aside your ignorance of the English language, you’re really as wrong as you can be. that is exactly what church is to most people, or the attendance on easter and Christmas would be no larger than it is on sundays. Church is a gathering of hypocrites to show off their clothes and false beliefs.

Obama has excellent judgment and is well educated. I give more weight to his time teaching and serving in the Illinois and U.S. Senate than I do having sat on Wal-Mart’s board or having a wealthy wife. Obama has a community service mindset. Americans really need that.
March 26th, 2008 at 5:34 pmTracy2 Says:
Choosing a candidate by the way he talks and looks above substance isn’t the way you should be choosing a candidate…
Yeah. We should choose a candidate on the basis of what others who are close to him have to say. That’s the kind of substance T2 is looking at — what are his pastor’s views on the world — that’s how we should choose our candidates.
March 26th, 2008 at 5:57 pmTracy2 Says Stupid, Ignorant Things.

Willingfully Ignorant, you ignore facts, facts you don’t want to hear, you ignore, facts in front of your face you ignore, you just hate facts, and cling to your repukian talking points, while totally ignoring facts.
Your reasoning power is amazingly low, and your posts are very immature, as well as your grammar and sentence structure. Not everyones grammar and sentence structure are perfect, but yours are less than stellar.

March 26th, 2008 at 6:22 pmHague Trials ‘09
Where have I defended the “outrageous” statements of Bush and Cheney?
Right here…
The reports from the “other” agencies BEFORE the invasion DID support the case that Iraq did have WMDs and the capability to produce them. Yes the information was proven to be false, but only after the fact. Have you ever read the 2002 NIE?
what have I said that is racist?
Your attempt to paint Obama as a member of a scary racist black church is just veiled racism… veiled like Salome… and like Salome it’s just to titilate before you lead us to the slaughter
The UCC is a church of fellowship and it embraces all kinds of world views… even you would be welcome Tracy2… Obama isn’t your candidate- fine
March 26th, 2008 at 6:41 pmIf his pastor’s remarks are all you got on him, woe to the Republicans in November (yay for sanity)
Hi Tracy2
March 26th, 2008 at 6:41 pmDid you have the same beef with those lame as white bread clergy who claimed 9/11 and Katrina where the result of gays, lesbians, etc or not. Did you call for the political leaders who have been linked to them to be held to the same standard? I figure you must have since to do otherwise would be clearly hypocritical.
I once ate dinner at the table next to George and Barbara and Billy Graham and his wife. Didn’t ole Billy have some funky shit to say about those suffering from HIV. I don’t remember the dude with the girls’s name speaking out about the hate.
March 26th, 2008 at 6:48 pmYou think that if during the 2000 or 2004 election that it was discovered that Bush attended a hate church like Wright’s that it wouldn’t be fair to question his judgment and character?
I questioned Bush’s judgment in 2004 because HE personally made bad calls… he lied about the level of intelligence, he pressured intelligence agencies to tell him what he wanted to hear, he continued to spend our economy into the ground… those are all judgment calls HE made- I couldn’t care less what his pastor said. His judgment was bad enough for me…
Back on topic, when even Chris Wallace recognizes this is ridiculous how do you justify your continued feigned interest and outrage?
March 26th, 2008 at 6:51 pmpeople go to church because they feel they are suppose to . They choose churches not based on the clergy leading them but on family legacies, proximity, and sect. Most of the time they aren’t even listening.
March 26th, 2008 at 7:15 pmTracy-
March 26th, 2008 at 7:26 pmWright was quoting Reagan’s foreign policy advisor in that sermon you liked to… guess you did kinda have to be there, huh?
Tracy2 Says:
You don’t know why people go to church…do you? Wright was and apparently still is who Obama looks to for personal spiritual guidence. If he didn’t agree with Wright’s positions why didn’t he leave the church? If my pastor spewed crap like this I would walk out. Obama had every opportunity long ago to distance himself from Wright’s hate speech, but he is just now doing it out of pure political expediency. Why is he just now renouncing his statements?
This model doesn’t have much in the way of reading comprehension circuitry, nor much of a logic program.
This rant above demonstrates pretty well that T2 says,
Choosing a candidate by the way he talks and looks above substance isn’t the way you should be choosing a candidate…
but then advocates choosing a candidate based on the way someone who is NOT the candidate talks.
This is the right wing.

March 26th, 2008 at 7:49 pmSeperation of Church and State is something I take pretty seriously and I believe that Obama does, too. It’s only Republicans who would like to see it abolished… I am listenting to the sermons and I don’t here hate, but I do see hate in what you are posting and I hear it in the two hours of Obama-bashing that Wallace was commenting on… Don’t confuse God and Government… you are dead wrong.
