Kern alleges ‘hate campaign’ backlash after she compared LGBT community to terrorists.

Earlier this month, Oklahoma state legislator Sally Kern drew well-deserved criticism for an outlandish rant against the gay community, in which she compared homosexuality to “toe cancer” and said “it’s the biggest threat our nation has, even more so than terrorism or Islam.” Now, Kern is saying that she is the target of a “hate campaign” as result of of her comments. “They haven’t just attacked me – they’ve attacked my family, they attacked the Bible, they’ve attacked Christianity,” Kern told CNSNews. Kern claims that her words were distorted:

“They made it sound like I was spewing hate and talking in one long rant against homosexuals,” Kern told Cybercast News Service. “I would never do that. I have never done that.”

One supporter of Kern, Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, has “accused Kern’s attackers of being ‘terrorists.’”

Jeez, what a goofball. I hate homosexuals but I would never say that. Typical of religious zealots of all kinds. I’M NOT THE RADICAL, THEY ARE.

Some PR person should inform these people that we live in a “You Tube” world and most anything said by any public official will most likely be recorded.

With that said, I’m digging the humor by the earlier posters.

Apparently Kern thinks it’s much more fun to be on the giving side of a hate campaign than on the receiving end. Such a “good Christian”. /sarc

So — when you said that homosexuality is “the biggest threat our nation has, even more so than terrorism,” you were saying this is a GOOD thing? You were expressing admiration?

Wow — when you DO spew hate, what does that sound like?

It’s like waiting for the Stones to take the stage.

I hope Daryll doesn’t get banned. He’s our little Five O’clock Charlie, and TP seems a might quick with the hook these days.

  14. Xisithrus says:

Your job, Ms Kern, is to represent the people, not to judge them. Your bible also tells you not to judge, so no, I am not attacking christianity but pointing out that you are ignoring it.

  15. Marie says:

You can say whatever outrageous thing that comes into your empty head – and it is dismissed as misspeak, and you are high offended that people take issue with you.
What makes you think that what you said was not offensive, hateful and deserving of criticism.
    Oh yes, IOKIYAR.
You claim to be christian — when did Jesus talk like that?
When did Jesus condemn homosexuality? Or prostitutes? or sinners?
In fact, he only condemned the moneychangers in the temple. Who do you think they would be today?

  20. ralph the wonder llama says:

I wonder if Sally Kern would be offended if a prominent state legislator said publicly that “Christianity is the biggest threat our nation has, even more so than terrorism.”

Think she’d see that as “hate speech”?

  21. misshusseinmolly says:

Kern claims her words were “twisted” and taken out of context. Knowing how that has happened to Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Michelle Obama, I think we should accept that it’s possible. I want to be fair, so I chose to give her a chance to explain.

So I went to the linked article to read her explanation of what she meant with her remarks. Here’s what I found:

“Kern said she was not talking about homosexuals as individuals, as the clip makes it appear.”

” ‘I was dealing with their radical agenda,’ she said. ‘I was talking about the political homosexual agenda that is funding homosexual and pro-homosexual candidates to run against conservatives.’ ”

“Kern said she was especially trying to publicize the fact that, in 2006, homosexual activists such as billionaire Tim Gill targeted 70 conservatives running for office and defeated 50 of them.”

So I guess homosexuals are OK as long as they don’t try to run for office — it’s then that they are a bigger threat than terrorists. Or perhaps she says it’s only when somebody FUNDS a gay person running for office that it’s worse than terrorism. Funny — I believe that evangelicals have had the “agenda” of targeting existing officeholders and replacing them with their own for quite some time. Is that also worse than terrorism? Somehow, I would imagine that kind of “agenda” is one that Kern supports.

There is no room in our society and government for those with the mind set such as Sally Kern. I am going to assume this is, in some form, an educated woman to be in her position…. therefore there is absolutely no excuse what so ever for her language.

Fred, I have a feeling that Americans for Truth About Homosexuality are in fact hiding a few truths about homosexuality. And working hard at keeping ‘em hidden.

  24. L. Hussein Annie says:

This is what happens because of people like Sally Kern:

Shooting of gay student sparks outcry

    By GREG RISLING, Associated Press

OXNARD, Calif. – Larry King was a gay eighth-grader who used to come to school in makeup, high heels and earrings. And when the other boys made fun of him, he would boldly tease them right back by flirting with them.

That may have been what got him killed.

On Feb. 12, another student, Brandon McInerney, 14, shot him twice in the head at the back of the computer lab at their junior high school, police say.

Police would not discuss McInerney’s motive. But the day before the shooting, King told McInerney he liked him, eighth-grader Eduardo Segure told the Ventura County Star.

If King had flirted with the other boy, “that can be very threatening to someone’s ego and their sense of identity,” said Jaana Juvonen, a psychology professor at the University of California, Los Angeles.

McInerney was jailed on $770,000 bail on an adult murder charge that could put him behind bars for life. Prosecutors also filed a hate-crime enhancement, which could bring three more years if McInerney is found to have acted on the basis of the victim’s race, religion, nationality or sexual orientation.

Murder. Cold, cruel, deadly murder. Sally Kern, this is on YOUR head.

  26. ralph the wonder llama says:

Thanks once again for your clear-headed approach, missmolly. We should always keep in mind that TP is capable of misrepresenting conservative statements too.

In this case, it doesn’t sound like Sally Kern has been misinterpreted. It sounds like she’s genuinely puzzled that we don’t see the love in her words.

Here is pure evil of the sort that can only be found in America’s “queer” Mecca: you just have to see it to believe it. Originally, I was not going to post this satanic Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence video of their 2008 “Hunky Jesus” contest — held on Easter Sunday in San Francisco, of course — because it is so offensive and blasphemous. But people need to see this homosexual hate in action to understand what we’re up against and what results from celebrating deviance.

Exactly. This is going to become yet another word that the right will use as an all-purpose insult (generally meaning “a$$hole” or “evil person” or “person I don’t agree with”). The literal meaning of “terrorist” will become lost to the ages, and it will just be flung randomly like poop. The term will join “liberal”, “socialist”, “communist”, “fascist”, “racist”, and “anti-American” as terms hurled as invective without definition.

BUT – her glavanting across the country, using her governmental official credentials, comparing the LBGT to terrorists, including in venues of groups which have been associated with discrimination and even outright violence to the LBGT – THAT doesn’t qualify as inicitement or even a hate campaign.

  52. pbg says:

    Look, God is gay.
He creates the world, full of plants and animals, just as they are today, which means fully reproductively functional, right?
But when it comes to the sentient being what does He do?
    Just creates Adam.
He then pals around with Adam for quite a while, anmd he gives him little jobs to do, like name the animals. He also warns him about thatTree of Knowwledge thing.
But after a while, Adam begins to get sulky. God suggests that he get aa dof or a cat–maybe a kinkajou or a cute little sugar glider. But it’s no go.
Grumbling,He realizes that He’s created this straight guy. So he follows the pattern he started in the first place, and makes Eve. (Even God knows you don’t convert one to the other.)
But He has his revenge: he doesn’t tell Eve about the tree, or tell her not to eat of it.
So when the inevitable happens, God blows it out of allo proportion, turns it into a big drama, and throws them out.
But you know what He does? After all that cursing and rotating swords and stuff?
He makes them a set of clothes. )”You’re not going out looking like THAT?”)

There’s no other conclusion possible. Gay gay gay gay gay.

Well, considering the Red Cross refuses to accept blood donations from any man who actually admits to EVER having had sex with another man since 1978, the odds of getting “gay blood transfused” is pretty damn slim. The Red Cross actually allows ex-prostitutes who’ve been out of “the business” for A YEAR (!) to donate blood, but a gay man who’s been in a committed relationship with another man for 20 years is still officially prohibited.
Of course, any gay man CAN get around this simply by saying he’s never had sex with another man, but I would hope that gay men are more honest than that.

  60. djreedps says:

I lived in Austin, Texas, which is about six hours south of Oklahoma City for 14 years. Austin is a great city.

Like Oklahoma Legislator Sally Kern, I too was attacked for exercising my First Amendment rights. A handwritten note which I have since framed and hung on my wall was left under the windshield wiper of my car at a chain store in South Austin in 2006. The note reads,

Most normal people are not gay-sodomite Americans! Keep your gross, weak-minded fagatry[sic] to your perverted self. And, guess what — you’re not born that way.

right now put your radio on 1370 am – you need to hear it,

But unlike Oklahoma Legislator Sally Kern, my free speech did not include any vitriol or hatred against conservatives, Republicans, or evangelical Christians.

The reason the nasty note was left on my car was because I choose to put a bumper sticker on the back of my car which read,

    GAY AMERICAN

So whereas I respect Ms. Kern’s free speech rights, I am not sympathetic to her fake outrage about a so-called “hate campaign” against her. As an openly gay man, I face a real hate campaign against me all the time, not for what I say, but just because of who I am.
