Earlier this month, Oklahoma state legislator Sally Kern drew well-deserved criticism for an outlandish rant against the gay community, in which she compared homosexuality to “toe cancer” and said “it’s the biggest threat our nation has, even more so than terrorism or Islam.” Now, Kern is saying that she is the target of a “hate campaign” as result of of her comments. “They haven’t just attacked me – they’ve attacked my family, they attacked the Bible, they’ve attacked Christianity,” Kern told CNSNews. Kern claims that her words were distorted:
“They made it sound like I was spewing hate and talking in one long rant against homosexuals,” Kern told Cybercast News Service. “I would never do that. I have never done that.”
One supporter of Kern, Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, has “accused Kern’s attackers of being ‘terrorists.’”
““They haven’t just attacked me – they’ve attacked my family, they attacked the Bible, they’ve attacked Christianity,” Kern told CNSNews.”
Think that’s bad? Your toes are next, byetch!
March 28th, 2008 at 4:41 pmI’m sure Kern merely “misspoke.”
March 28th, 2008 at 4:42 pmJeez, what a goofball. I hate homosexuals but I would never say that. Typical of religious zealots of all kinds. I’M NOT THE RADICAL, THEY ARE.
wow.
March 28th, 2008 at 4:43 pmSally Kern: “Homosexuality is the biggest threat our nation faces — more than terrorism…
What? What’d I say?
Boy you people are touchy.”
March 28th, 2008 at 4:45 pmI’m glad Sally Kern and her ilk have been emboldened. It gets them fired.
March 28th, 2008 at 4:47 pmMs. Kern has obviously forgotten – you reap what you sow. No sympathy here.
March 28th, 2008 at 4:48 pmSome PR person should inform these people that we live in a “You Tube” world and most anything said by any public official will most likely be recorded.
With that said, I’m digging the humor by the earlier posters.
March 28th, 2008 at 4:49 pmApparently Kern thinks it’s much more fun to be on the giving side of a hate campaign than on the receiving end. Such a “good Christian”. /sarc
March 28th, 2008 at 4:52 pmDoes anyone else get that little giddy feeling while awaiting Daryll?
March 28th, 2008 at 4:53 pmThe typical political DARVO tactic.
March 28th, 2008 at 4:55 pm“They made it sound like I was spewing hate and talking in one long rant against homosexuals,” Kern told Cybercast News Service. “I would never do that. I have never done that.”
Added comments: ” I only spew my vile predudice and hateful vitriol in shorts bursts, lest I be misunderstood. Besides that, my audience of brain-dead Goopers have an attention span of only 15 seconds.”
March 28th, 2008 at 4:56 pm“They made it sound like I was spewing hate and talking in one long rant against homosexuals,” Kern told Cybercast News Service. “I would never do that. I have never done that.”

So — when you said that homosexuality is “the biggest threat our nation has, even more so than terrorism,” you were saying this is a GOOD thing? You were expressing admiration?
Wow — when you DO spew hate, what does that sound like?

It’s like waiting for the Stones to take the stage.
I hope Daryll doesn’t get banned. He’s our little Five O’clock Charlie, and TP seems a might quick with the hook these days.
March 28th, 2008 at 4:58 pmYour job, Ms Kern, is to represent the people, not to judge them. Your bible also tells you not to judge, so no, I am not attacking christianity but pointing out that you are ignoring it.
March 28th, 2008 at 4:59 pmYou can say whatever outrageous thing that comes into your empty head – and it is dismissed as misspeak, and you are high offended that people take issue with you.
March 28th, 2008 at 4:59 pmWhat makes you think that what you said was not offensive, hateful and deserving of criticism.
Oh yes, IOKIYAR.
You claim to be christian — when did Jesus talk like that?
When did Jesus condemn homosexuality? Or prostitutes? or sinners?
In fact, he only condemned the moneychangers in the temple. Who do you think they would be today?
People like Sally Kern are a bigger threat to this country’s ideals than terrorism ever will be.
March 28th, 2008 at 5:02 pmOh, crap. Not another Republican VICTIM!!!!
March 28th, 2008 at 5:02 pmwow.

March 28th, 2008 at 5:07 pmThis must be one of those republican misnomers like their famous “Clear Skies Initiative”
I wonder if Sally Kern would be offended if a prominent state legislator said publicly that “Christianity is the biggest threat our nation has, even more so than terrorism.”
Think she’d see that as “hate speech”?
March 28th, 2008 at 5:07 pmKern claims her words were “twisted” and taken out of context. Knowing how that has happened to Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Michelle Obama, I think we should accept that it’s possible. I want to be fair, so I chose to give her a chance to explain.
So I went to the linked article to read her explanation of what she meant with her remarks. Here’s what I found:
“Kern said she was not talking about homosexuals as individuals, as the clip makes it appear.”
” ‘I was dealing with their radical agenda,’ she said. ‘I was talking about the political homosexual agenda that is funding homosexual and pro-homosexual candidates to run against conservatives.’ ”
“Kern said she was especially trying to publicize the fact that, in 2006, homosexual activists such as billionaire Tim Gill targeted 70 conservatives running for office and defeated 50 of them.”
So I guess homosexuals are OK as long as they don’t try to run for office — it’s then that they are a bigger threat than terrorists. Or perhaps she says it’s only when somebody FUNDS a gay person running for office that it’s worse than terrorism. Funny — I believe that evangelicals have had the “agenda” of targeting existing officeholders and replacing them with their own for quite some time. Is that also worse than terrorism? Somehow, I would imagine that kind of “agenda” is one that Kern supports.
March 28th, 2008 at 5:08 pmThere is no room in our society and government for those with the mind set such as Sally Kern. I am going to assume this is, in some form, an educated woman to be in her position…. therefore there is absolutely no excuse what so ever for her language.
March 28th, 2008 at 5:08 pmMake this woman wear a sign around her neck and walk in public.
Fred, I have a feeling that Americans for Truth About Homosexuality are in fact hiding a few truths about homosexuality. And working hard at keeping ‘em hidden.
March 28th, 2008 at 5:09 pmThis is what happens because of people like Sally Kern:
Shooting of gay student sparks outcry
By GREG RISLING, Associated Press
OXNARD, Calif. – Larry King was a gay eighth-grader who used to come to school in makeup, high heels and earrings. And when the other boys made fun of him, he would boldly tease them right back by flirting with them.
That may have been what got him killed.
On Feb. 12, another student, Brandon McInerney, 14, shot him twice in the head at the back of the computer lab at their junior high school, police say.
Police would not discuss McInerney’s motive. But the day before the shooting, King told McInerney he liked him, eighth-grader Eduardo Segure told the Ventura County Star.
If King had flirted with the other boy, “that can be very threatening to someone’s ego and their sense of identity,” said Jaana Juvonen, a psychology professor at the University of California, Los Angeles.
McInerney was jailed on $770,000 bail on an adult murder charge that could put him behind bars for life. Prosecutors also filed a hate-crime enhancement, which could bring three more years if McInerney is found to have acted on the basis of the victim’s race, religion, nationality or sexual orientation.

Murder. Cold, cruel, deadly murder. Sally Kern, this is on YOUR head.
March 28th, 2008 at 5:11 pmRaise your hands to heaven, Libs, in gratitude for the deliverance of a thread about homosexuality; and the fear and trepidation this creates for all Hell fearing neo-con christians. Praise Heyzeus, for the promised one and savior of your Friday afternoon will soon return.
March 28th, 2008 at 5:11 pmMay Daryll bless you and keep you.
Thanks once again for your clear-headed approach, missmolly. We should always keep in mind that TP is capable of misrepresenting conservative statements too.
In this case, it doesn’t sound like Sally Kern has been misinterpreted. It sounds like she’s genuinely puzzled that we don’t see the love in her words.
March 28th, 2008 at 5:12 pm.
WAIT!
So, Sally Kern can draw parallels to homosexuality and terrorism unapologetically and anyone who questions her, they’re the terrorist?
W.T.F.???
Sally Kern as an acting Oklahoma state legislator should refrain from using religion as a test against the people in violation of the First Amendment…
.
March 28th, 2008 at 5:18 pmWow, I thought the biggest threat to the country was the government industrial monstrosity, Eisenhower’s MIC on steroids.
http://stateofthedivision.blogspot.com/2008/03/blue-blogosphere-goes-green.html
Now I learn it’s gay people. I’ll have to look into that…(sarcasm)
March 28th, 2008 at 5:19 pmI happened to hear the Reich-wing Rapture freak, Janet Parsell discussing this. She tried to set the false equivalence that the was a web-site called Christian Taliban – calling Christians terrorists so everything was find with the Christo-Nazi calling homosexuals terrorists.
Kern is one of Phylis Shaffly’s wing nuts and married to a baptist preacher.
“There is no room in our society and government for those with the mind set such as Sally Kern.” There is with teh bible Thumpers in OKLA.
March 28th, 2008 at 5:20 pmPoor Sally…… her hate was taken out of context.
At least her gay hair dresser doesn’t mind. How else would she be able to mantain that FABULOUS Harriet Miers dress barn look of hers.
P.S. sally, we all heard what you said, we’re taking you to task for your bigoted views, and not because you hump the bible while doing it.

If you think about it, it follows perfectly, Max. If they’re terrorists to begin, with then they don’t stop being terrorists when they criticize her. See how easy wingnut thinking can be if you let go of that “need to make sense” compulsion?
March 28th, 2008 at 5:21 pmIf anyone needed a textbook use of “can dish it out but can’t take it” . . . we give you Sally Kern.

Exactly. This is going to become yet another word that the right will use as an all-purpose insult (generally meaning “a$$hole” or “evil person” or “person I don’t agree with”). The literal meaning of “terrorist” will become lost to the ages, and it will just be flung randomly like poop. The term will join “liberal”, “socialist”, “communist”, “fascist”, “racist”, and “anti-American” as terms hurled as invective without definition.

March 28th, 2008 at 5:28 pmThis woman hasn’t seen anything yet. There are 2 things not to mess with in this world, it’s PETA and the Gays. I can assure the Gays will not let up until she steps down…
March 28th, 2008 at 5:28 pmShe can either go quietly or drag this thing out to a slow death.
Boo hoo. The bigot can dish it out but she can’t take it. Funny how those who advocate hate always run and hide once they start to get a little of their own medicine.
March 28th, 2008 at 5:34 pmOoops…
March 28th, 2008 at 5:38 pmshould be GIRTH?

March 28th, 2008 at 5:43 pmThe anti-gay folk remind me of the white folks in wwII who wouldn’t allow black blood to be used in transfusions to white soldiers.
This is even sicker though because they can’t identify the gays by color and the fact is that 10% of the population is gay so they are getting gay blood transfused into thier gay-hating bodies without knowing it….it is inevitable. I want to be the one to tell them……
March 28th, 2008 at 5:48 pmBut people need to see this homosexual hate in action to understand what we’re up against and what results from celebrating deviance.
This is a hate group…….
And a salacious hate group at that. The film is so horrible they have to show it to you anyway. Anyone want to bet the members of this group have a pretty extensive porno library?
March 28th, 2008 at 5:51 pmwhoo, they attacked God?
Those bastards, for picking on such an old person, for Christ’s, God must be at least 13.50 billions years.
what will the homosexual community do next?
March 28th, 2008 at 5:55 pmThe Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are hysterical. They’ve been around for nearly 30 years and besides doing great theater, they’ve donated a ton of money to charity, probably many thousands of times the contribution made by Sally Kern and her homophobic buddies.
March 28th, 2008 at 5:55 pmI don’t know but they gave us Michelangelo and Freddy Mercury…….pretty wide range but it’s mine anyway……what have the christains actually contributed besides being at the heart of just about every war in the history of man?

Well obviously if you criticize Kern you must be an godless atheist, an evil Mooooslim, A demoncrat or (shudder) a terrorist!!!!
As a matter of fact if you post here you must be one of the above.
The sooner we can remove people like her from power the better off we’ll all be.
Oh crap. I’m late for my satanic lesbian/gay alliance terrorist meeting at the morgue. Or is it at the local orphanage this week? Anyone have a schedule?
March 28th, 2008 at 6:51 pmha, I wonder if they have ever made the connection?
March 28th, 2008 at 7:10 pm“They made it sound like I was spewing hate and talking in one long rant against homosexuals,”
I listened to your rant, and yes, you were spewing hate against the gays, they are Americans too, you piece of Repukian Slime.
March 28th, 2008 at 7:27 pmMy son is gay and he assures me there is no “homosexual agenda”.
March 28th, 2008 at 8:03 pmHowz it that the LBG community reacting to her bigoted words is a hate campaign,
BUT – her glavanting across the country, using her governmental official credentials, comparing the LBGT to terrorists, including in venues of groups which have been associated with discrimination and even outright violence to the LBGT – THAT doesn’t qualify as inicitement or even a hate campaign.
March 28th, 2008 at 9:17 pmLook, God is gay.
He creates the world, full of plants and animals, just as they are today, which means fully reproductively functional, right?
But when it comes to the sentient being what does He do?
Just creates Adam.
He then pals around with Adam for quite a while, anmd he gives him little jobs to do, like name the animals. He also warns him about thatTree of Knowwledge thing.
But after a while, Adam begins to get sulky. God suggests that he get aa dof or a cat–maybe a kinkajou or a cute little sugar glider. But it’s no go.
Grumbling,He realizes that He’s created this straight guy. So he follows the pattern he started in the first place, and makes Eve. (Even God knows you don’t convert one to the other.)
But He has his revenge: he doesn’t tell Eve about the tree, or tell her not to eat of it.
So when the inevitable happens, God blows it out of allo proportion, turns it into a big drama, and throws them out.
But you know what He does? After all that cursing and rotating swords and stuff?
He makes them a set of clothes. )”You’re not going out looking like THAT?”)
There’s no other conclusion possible. Gay gay gay gay gay.
March 28th, 2008 at 10:07 pmdof = dog. Sorry for the typos.
March 28th, 2008 at 10:08 pmBut take my word for it. All of that is in the Bible.
So, if god is gay, why is he all mean and vengeful and always threatening us with pestilence and damnation.
March 28th, 2008 at 10:18 pmDoesn’t sound like he’s really very gay at all.
I think many of these gay bashers are expressing the fear they have of their own thoughts. Pitiful really, if it weren’t so mean.

Well, considering the Red Cross refuses to accept blood donations from any man who actually admits to EVER having had sex with another man since 1978, the odds of getting “gay blood transfused” is pretty damn slim. The Red Cross actually allows ex-prostitutes who’ve been out of “the business” for A YEAR (!) to donate blood, but a gay man who’s been in a committed relationship with another man for 20 years is still officially prohibited.
March 29th, 2008 at 3:43 amOf course, any gay man CAN get around this simply by saying he’s never had sex with another man, but I would hope that gay men are more honest than that.
I don’t know where you live but I have donated blood all of my life and I have never been asked if I was gay or if I had had sex with another man…..
March 29th, 2008 at 10:24 amI lived in Austin, Texas, which is about six hours south of Oklahoma City for 14 years. Austin is a great city.
Like Oklahoma Legislator Sally Kern, I too was attacked for exercising my First Amendment rights. A handwritten note which I have since framed and hung on my wall was left under the windshield wiper of my car at a chain store in South Austin in 2006. The note reads,
But unlike Oklahoma Legislator Sally Kern, my free speech did not include any vitriol or hatred against conservatives, Republicans, or evangelical Christians.
The reason the nasty note was left on my car was because I choose to put a bumper sticker on the back of my car which read,
So whereas I respect Ms. Kern’s free speech rights, I am not sympathetic to her fake outrage about a so-called “hate campaign” against her. As an openly gay man, I face a real hate campaign against me all the time, not for what I say, but just because of who I am.
