In an interview with the Sunday New York Times Magazine, Paul O’Neill – President Bush’s former Secretary of the Treasury – sarcastically commented on McCain’s lack of preparation to lead on economic issues:
NYT: McCain recently confessed in public that his grasp of economics is limited.
O’NEILL: Yeah. That’s a great place to start from, isn’t it?
In 2004, O’Neill was reported in a book as saying that Bush lacked “credibility with his most senior officials,” while a “puppeteer” (Cheney) called the shots. Asked if he has spoken with Cheney recently, O’Neill said, “I have been to a few events where the vice president was there, but we both did our best to ignore each other.”
Bush could care less what happens to people who aren’t as rich as he and his homeboys.
March 31st, 2008 at 1:00 pmDoes this come as a surprise to anyone? The moment McCain became the Republican nominee, he became the greatest next President in history. He can walk on water, part the Red Sea, raise the dead, and solve every problem known to man kind. Didn’t you guys know that?
March 31st, 2008 at 1:07 pmIt appears Bush learned his lesson when he dumped O’Neill; never again hire someone with integrity. They’re dangerous.
March 31st, 2008 at 1:07 pmMcNumbNuts has the economy all figured out. It’s simple: “We need more tax cuts”. It has worked so well for GDumbya, after all.
March 31st, 2008 at 1:08 pm‘C’mon & take a free ride…
March 31st, 2008 at 1:12 pmThere were other great quotes:
Q: How do you feel about John McCain, who claims to be a straight talker?
A: I don’t want a straight talker. I want a leader. And a straight talker is one dimension of a leader.
***
Q:Do you feel bitter about your service for the Bush administration?
A: No. I’m thankful I got fired when I did, so that I didn’t have to be associated with what they subsequently did.
March 31st, 2008 at 1:14 pmI read Paul O’Neils book years ago. It’s definitely recommended reading.
It doesn’t really go for the jugular, but it provides insight into a man that was around these clowns essentially going ‘dude…what the hell?’
March 31st, 2008 at 1:21 pmDoes it come as a surprise to anyone that Cheney’s been the puppetmaster all along?
Bush isn’t even smart enough to see the strings tied to his hands and feet.
PEACE
March 31st, 2008 at 1:26 pmActually, no he can’t. Bush has reached the bottom of caring, the absolute nadir. He litterally couldn’t care less.
March 31st, 2008 at 1:26 pmThe MSM’s push to ensure that McCain is the next President puzzles me. Don’t they see the damage that Republican rule has done to this country, especially the economy. Do they really think that McCain is going to be any better than Bush? I just don’t get it. Who do they think is going to consume their products when we are all flat-ass broke and can’t even afford to buy a newspaper or a TV? And, their advertisers won’t need to advertise any longer because no one can afford to buy what they are selling. So, if the Republicans totally bankrupt this nation the MSM will lose too.
March 31st, 2008 at 1:27 pmLike their Republican masters, Big Business is incredibly short-sighted and only care about what’s happening now. That’s why their attention wanes on so many important issues and the election coverage deteriorates into a horse race. I don’t know if they are incapable of seeing that far, or simple don’t care to. My guess it’s the latter – they’ve put their faith into the magic ponies that will come along and make everything better.
March 31st, 2008 at 1:33 pmThat’s pretty sad when someone from the Bush administration is critical of your knowledge. You must be truly and thoroughly miserable…Oh wait! We’re talking about Gramps McSame? Makes sense now.
March 31st, 2008 at 1:50 pmThe Repukes want a Great Depression – Why? To make slaves of the middle and lower classes by making them compete with child and slave labor overseas, just a guess, the uber rich will not be affected and will only profit from it, unless we go nuts and take their stuff, then they would not be so smug about it.
March 31st, 2008 at 2:58 pmYou know that it is ***REALLY REALLY REALLY***
March 31st, 2008 at 4:03 pmYou know that it is ***REALLY REALLY REALLY*** BAD when a Bush adminstration insider chides you for your lack of knowledge of the economy.
March 31st, 2008 at 4:04 pmI agree MapleStreet. Since the average 5th grader is better at Speeches than Bush. That would make the average person without a college education a Mental Giant compared to his current administration. The only qualifications they would need is Common Sense & Compassion.
March 31st, 2008 at 4:27 pmRepugs detest government intervention except when it can be used to bail out rich cronies and their vulcher-friends on wall street.
March 31st, 2008 at 6:18 pmO’Neil’s book was the first book I read by an ex-insider of Bush&Co. Check it out.
