CNN beats Fox News in key demographic.

The New York Times reports today:

The political season continues to be very good to CNN, which will officially announce on Tuesday that for the first time since 2001, it managed to beat the Fox News Channel in prime time for one quarter of the year in the category of news viewers most desirable to advertisers, according to Nielsen. Thanks to its debate coverage and heavy focus on the presidential primaries, CNN’s ratings in prime time for viewers 25 to 54 were up 90 percent, to an average of 453,000 for the first quarter of 2008. That was enough to edge past the perennial leader, Fox, which had 438,000 viewers, up 12 percent from last year.

Fox still leads in the category of "viewers which most strongly believe Tinky Winky is a homosexual al-queeda member who wants use our tax money to have gay moslem wedd1ngs"

  2. hussein toasterhead Says:

That's great! Now if only CNN actually covered the news instead of superficial horserace fluffery, there'd be something to celebrate.

  3. ralph the wonder llama Says:

    This tells me two things:

    1) the Democratic candidates' refusal to debate on Faux had an impact

    and

    2) the CNN slump to the right will be seen as "the way forward" for the corporate management, and they will become more like Faux.

  4. PatrioticLiberalChristian Says:

Tweedledee and Tweedledum still fighting over who gets to have Humpty Dumpty for supper.

Can't wait for BillO's evening rant about this. Damn CNN! Damn Countdown! Olbermann that evil bastahd (or as otherwise known as He Whose Name Must Not Be Spoken).

Put that in your hat and smoke it, Fox.

May you never RIP either. Die a slow death, fine, just die. One less propaganda network. How many more to go?

    Knock em dead Glenn!!

Lowest rated show on CNN, matter of fact. Can you say, "In spite of, rather than because"?

Except for the "dull" part, it sounds like winning Right-Wing TV!

I suspect it's because CNN is trying very hard to mimic FNN.

Campell Brown will read anything on a teleprompter. (Anchorman)

But the ones Lou Dobbs feeds us have that extra spicy salsa sauce in them, just so you remember who to blame. ;)

  18. Bilbo Hussein Baggins Says:

Ouch, that's got to hurt. And I believe it is only going to get worse for Fox. The station was born of neoCON conservative rule and could just die under progressive rule.

That's also the key demographic that Keith Olberman carries during Countdown.

438,000 24-54 year olds watch FOX? Seriously?

And your mom moved up from free lance crack whore to ann coulter impersonator, what's your point?

  23. americangoy Says:

Wait - am I supposed to cheerlead for CNN over FOX?

We have a pure propaganda organization, similar to the Goebbels Nazi propaganda machine in WW2 Germany or Soviet Union's Pravda (FOX duh), vs Krokodil (a satirical Soviet Union era popular magazine, heavily censored put forth as an "alternative" to FOX errr Pravda).

We know you prefer Pravda. Why do you hate the Blll of Rights? Is that your definition of "patriot'?

  27. Bushie Says:

Just goes to show, most audiences wouldn’t know polemic from rhetoric in these “debates”. Wolf Blitzer would be right a home at Faux News.

  28. davemartin7777 Says:

Fox New's constant sewage-flow of GOP propogada becomes really tiresome after a while.

    It's like a non-stop GOP informercial.

Makes sense people would lose interest.

The only thing Fox can really do to get back to #1 is to open it's tabloid brittiny spears journalism floodgates .

15,000 is the difference between the two and this is news. CNN is hiring more pretty women to keep with all the pretty women on Fox. It’s obviously working. Our TV media is becoming more like the British TV media. Nothing wrong with hearing your news from a smart, educated, and beautiful woman while drinking your coffee in the morning, as opposed to a fat, boring, know it all, fifty something man. Turning off the teleprompter and more mini skirts would have the ratings going through the roof.

So, you've got a thing for Sean Insanity and Bill O'Loofa, huh? Thought so.

CNN may be getting more viewers, but at least democrats are starting to recognize that Fox is the most objective:

Cap'n, I think you meant to type " democrats are starting to recognize that Fox is the most objectionable".

And, no, Democrats have known that since the mid-90s.

  36. backup Says:

    Nice one, ralph.

It's kind of a joke. I don't think there is such a thing as 'objective' media.
