MCM, it’s not even a question of the “bitter partisan atmosphere”. How is the invasion of Iraq ever gonna look like a wise move? How is the trashing of the economy ever gonna look like an achievement? How is the debasement of the Constitution ever gonna look like an enlightened strategy?

Bush has low approval ratings, not because difficult decisions have taken longer to pay off than expected, but because stupid decisions have had utterly predictable (and predicted) results.

That kind of shit doesn’t get better with age.

But, just like history views Truman more favorably than his low approval ratings during his presidency, Bush’s efforts may be viewed more favorably, when they are viewed without the haze of today’s bitter partisan atmosphere.

We will see.

I wonder if, by the end of Chimpy’s reign, I will finally just assume that as a matter of course, our president will be rude to everyone he meets, instead of clinging to my lifelong belief that a person who has been elevated to that position would have some sense of decorum and courtesy.
