Georgejr’s ABSENCE from any diplomatic meeting is to our advantage. Does it occur to anyone that this may have become obvious, and Gates strongly suggested Bush’s early departure, in the interest of maybe actually accomplishing something? Left un-reported was what happened after Bush left – perhaps, instead of insisting on acquiesence to DEMANDS as Bush is prone to do, was Gates able to NEGOTIATE some cooperation?

With regard to earlier expressions of sympathy for Chimpy (i.e., those who don’t like sitting through long meetings in their own jobs, the contention that Harper and Sarkozy left even before the Bubble Boy), I would offer the following contentions: 1) Chimpy did not seek this job because he needs the money. Rather, it was/is undoubtedly a matter of seeking power. Someone who doesn’t like attending meetings should not seek the Presidency. Perhaps those who have offered such sympathies are also independently wealthy and are merely working in their jobs as a hobby? 2) Stephen Harper and Nicolas Sarkozy have both attempted to shove their countries toward the reich (perhaps, in many respects, the three are of like mind). Neither Harper nor Sarkozy would reasonably be considered positive role models by any self-respecting progressive. Contending that Chimpy is no worse is no compliment.

As someone said upthread, he’s trying to convince other NATO countries to take on more of the burden of Afghanistan. What the hell does he think they’ll do now? This is such a collosal breach of protocol (yes, protocol is important in international relationships, Bush worshippers, MSM employees, and neocons).
