Although I am no McCain supporter, Cecil Field is not a Naval Air Station any more. The fault of the earmarks is with local hack Rep. Ander Crenshaw. For some years he and the local Republican establishment have been trying to reopen Cecil Field as a master jet base despite massive public opposition. I think McCain is there strictly because he was stationed there during Vietnam. It's only part of his BS bus tour because of that.

>attacking McCain’s strength (Budget Hawk)

the way he's been flip flopping in the wind recently, i question whether any of that past hawishness was sincere, or merely an attempt to cast himself as some sort of "maverick".... who knows..

RUCerious Says:
April 3rd, 2008 at 12:03 pm

Zim, unfortunately, Obama didn’t have his name on the ballot in Mi. So who would get seated? All the delegates would go to Clinton. Would that be fair?

<em>Excellent question. Delegates are seated to the National, but may vote for whomever they choose.

No, it certainly wouldn't be fair to Obama to use any of the 'fake primary' results.</em>

The "irony" is that TP is taking a page from Carl Rove's book of political misdirection and attacking McCain's strength (Budget Hawk) by making a mountain out of a mole hill. Power corrupts, and no one should be surprised as the Democratic Party and its political allies slowly morph into a mirror image of what I learned to detest over the last 8 years.

VA Voter - The number of Pork barrel projects under Bill Clinton was around 1290. Under Bush the number went almost 16,000 at one point. Bush was critical of the war funding bill that he eventually approved because it had pork projects attached and only mentioned democrat's pork projects. Ironically the two most expensive pieces of pork were from republicans. The cost of earmarks is actually a drop in bucket compared to total spending. Earmarks are somewhat of a political diversion tactic for each party. Bush's war fiasco for 2008 will probably be 145 to 150 Billion, earmarks for 2008 will probably be around 17 to 18 billion. Total 2008/2009 federal budget 3.1 trillion, the largest amount of spending and debt in the histroy of this country. We do know who the big spenders are and they are not the demolcrat's.

OT, but campaign related...

Florida & Michigan. What to do?

How about seating the delegates, but banning the superdelegates?

The 'supers' are elected officials & party stalwarts, waiting to see which way the wind blows as the election draws near.

Who needs them? It looks like many of their votes can be 'bought', anyway. It's a stupid setup, & change is needed.

The Democratic Party will suffer immensely if we don't give voters a chance in Florida & Michigan. McLame would blow his horn all the way from August to November on this.

These States 'jumped the line', but we need citizens allowed to vote for a President. Republicans have put Party over People for the last 12 years; let's not make the same mistake.

All this week, Republican presidential nominee John McCain is highlighting his biography during a "Service to America" tour designed to reintroduce himself to voters. Unfortunately, with each new stop, McCain only raises disturbing new questions about his past.

For the details, see:
<b><a href="http://www.perrspectives.com/blog/archives/001005.htm" rel="nofollow">"John McCain's Bio Waste."</a></b>

The problem with earmarks isn't that the money is being spent, but that the money is not going through the normal committee process which decides how our tax money is going to be allocated. This results in absurd projects like the "bridge to nowhere" moving forward at great personal gain to Sen. Stevens and his cronies, while more meaningful projects flounder for lack of political capital.

I would advocate banning earmarks and then giving every Representative and Senator a budget which they can direct to pet projects in their state. That would allow each congress person to use discretion to fund a pet project in their home state, but would place a firm cap on the money spent in this way. It would also provide more transparency since it would be easier to track this budget than it is to cross index every earmark hidden deep in an appropriations bill.

Now that TP has pointed it out, McCain representatives will say "Well, why else would we use this location as a backdrop? <em>Of course</em> we knew all about this station's history regarding earmarks.
The criminals are running out the clock; americans are taking a long snooze right now because nothing worthwhile will be accomplished in the coming months by this gang of thugs.

There's hope on the horizon, however, in the persona of Barack Obama. Everyone's just wishing that November would roll around quickly so we can shift gears, apprehend the criminals and bring them to their deserved justice, and begin to dig ourselves out of this deep, dank, dark abyss which Bush has cast us into.

Let's face it: Everyone now knows that nothing emanating from the mouths of anyone associated with this administration CANNOT be believed. That goes for McTorture's spew as well.

Everyone's just holding their breath and visualizing the crooks and liars exiting stage right.....counting the days, in fact.

There will be joy and dancing in the streets when this cadre of crooks and liars are no longer on the radar.

Does anyone really listen to any of the 24/7 propaganda mouthpieces of this fascist regime any more?

Does anyone really read the print media (AP, UP) and believe one single word of any of it?

Didn't think so.

What a sweet and overt 'dance' the sycophantic fascist mainstream media is having with Mr. McCrazy McSame. The gig is up though as most americans recognize that our message is fascist controlled and a far, far cry from truth in broadcasting.
