“For a man who came into office as the nation’s first M.B.A. president, Mr. Bush has sometimes seemed invisible during the housing and credit crunch,” writes The New York Times. Even Bush’s conservative allies say that the President “is being eclipsed and is in danger of looking out of touch.” As Congress scrambled to “produce a bill to help struggling homeowners,” Bush left for Eastern Europe.

“For at least 16 months after the Sept. 11 terror attacks in 2001, the Bush administration believed that the Constitution’s protection against unreasonable searches and seizures on U.S. soil didn’t apply to its efforts to protect against terrorism,” according to “a secret Justice Department legal memo dated Oct. 23, 2001.” The memo’s existence was disclosed “Tuesday in a footnote of a separate secret memo” about interrogation policy.

More than 1,000 people attended a rally Wednesday in support of a Oklahoma Rep. Sally Kern (R) , who was “widely criticized” for a saying homosexuality is “the biggest threat our nation has.” Kern said the rally affirms the rights of those “who want to stand up for the truth of God’s word.”

Recent surveys by the National Patient Advocate Foundation and the Kaiser Family Foundation found that “[p]eople with health insurance are having more trouble paying for prescription drugs as higher out-of-pocket costs for medications and a slowing economy strain family budgets.”

According to a recent Defense Department Inspector General report, “[t]he Army can’t be sure some of its body armor met safety standards” because “nearly half of the Army’s contractors did not perform the most basic test on the body armor before it was sent to our troops fighting overseas.”

Yesterday, a bipartisan group of seven senators proposed legislation that would “improve health care for female soldiers returning from duty in Iraq and require the Veteran Administration’s mental health staff to be trained to counsel victims of sexual assault.”

Iraqi Shi’ite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr called on Thursday for a million-strong demonstration against U.S. ‘occupation,’ a potentially destabilizing show of force after his followers battled U.S. and government troops. The demonstration would take place next Wednesday April 9, the fifth anniversary of the fall of Baghdad, when the U.S. commander in Iraq is also scheduled to brief Congress in Washington about progress in the war.”

Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne refused to testify yesterday to a Senate committee “seeking an explanation” on the delayed decision whether to “list polar bears as threatened under the Endangered Species Act.” Instead, he sent a letter to the committee and pledged to testify once his decision was made, “now three months late.”

Just before the March recess, “House Democrats thought they were close to getting a deal on an immigration package.” But according to Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) “a senior Republican came to him” to derail the bill, saying that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) “didn’t want to deal with immigration this year.”

And finally: Edward Gabriel was the U.S. ambassador to Morocco from 1997 to 2001. Yesterday, an “in memoriam” ad ran in The Washington Post titled “Ed Gabriel: A Partner for Life.” Gabriel, however, is not dead. The ad was an April Fools’ Day prank by an old friend, J. Peter Segall. Gabriel fielded calls all day from people who thought he had passed away, including one woman who had cried for two hours after seeing the ad. Segall later admitted that his joke was “very stupid.”

What did we miss? Let us know in the comments section.

Paulson’s Fixit Plan for Wall Street: Less regulation, More Power to the Fed

Treasury Secretary and his pals at the Fed close to achieving unlimited power with zero accountability

It is being billed as a “massive shakeup of US financial market regulation”, but don’t be deceived. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson’s proposals for broad market reform are neither “timely” nor “thoughtful”. In fact, its all just more of the same free market “we can police ourselves” mumbo jumbo that got us into this mess in the first place. The real objective of Paulson’s so called reforms is to decapitate the SEC and increase the powers of the Federal Reserve. Same wine, different bottle. Paulson’s real motive is to preempt the regulatory sledgehammer that is set to descend on the entire financial industry following the 2008 election. There’s growing fear that a President Obama may tote his firehose down to Wall Street and flush out some of the cobwebs that have collected in the market’s dark corners.

If Paulson’s plan is approved in its present form, Congress will have even less control over the financial system than it does now and the same group of self-serving banking mandarins who created the biggest equity bubble in history will be able to administer the markets however they choose without the annoyance of government supervision.

Yep, the real terrorists, Bush and Cheney won, since it was their intention when (s)elected to destroy the Constitution and raid the treasury.

Does anybody have a copy of Bush’s Master’s Thesis? Maybe this is how He envisioned running a country years ago. Perhaps he has taken the unregulated market concept into government: He does have an unregulated Presidency, thanks to the fact that Pelosi and Conyers took impeachment off the table.

Under His unlimited powers as “commander-in-chief” He can do whatever He wants. He is no longer impeded by having to recognize the “constitutional rights” of the people.

Regulation and oversight only apply to the working class. The privileged class, the “haves, and the have-mores” are free to continue their plunder of America.

But don’t worry, McCain will boldly lead us into further sustained war, increasing the wealth of the ruling class; and conscripting the sons and daughters of the working class and poor. Our loss of freedoms will be purchased with the blood of our children. Eventually, you, too, will love Big Brother.

I have a couple of observations here.

    1) Why have a system of checks and balances in our government (or even a constitution!) when the president can legislate by memo?

    2) Why is the fourth amendment being trampled on in the name of “fighting terrorism” while the second amendment remains sacred? Thanks to that, terrorists can still buy weaponry in this country, but this is apparently of no concern to anyone.

You gotta love the irony. This is the belief held by the biggest terrorists on earth, the Bush Crime Family.

Agreed, missmolly, he can run, but he can’t hide. Given the fact Chertoff’s latest actions violate many environmental laws, the ‘fence’ issue is not dead, and Arizona is part of this fiasco, McPanderer is bound to be asked immigration questions.

That’s what happens when you give people no-bid cost-plus no oversight contracts. I wonder how many deaths in Iraq are attributable to greedy contractors who cut corners? We already know that many deaths are due to the fact that the military didn’t get up-armored vehicles. They didn’t get the vehicles because the Bush Crime Family wanted them to wait until 2010 so that a FOB company could make the vehicles.

I also wonder what happens to the soldiers to assault their fellow female soldiers. Somehow I doubt they are prosecuted the same as they would be if they were civilians.

Do you suppose having a million people in Iraq saying “get the hell out of our country” would be enough for Bush. Nah… he could care less what the people in Iraq think. He has his puppet Maliki and as long as Maliki thinks it is in his own best interests, he is not going to ask us to leave.

for a saying homosexuality is “the biggest threat our nation has.”

These idiots are still reading cold stats from the 1950s. And a thousand people showing up cannot be extrapolated to mean “our nation.”

Linking same-sex relationships — a harmless pact if I ever saw one — to terrorism is potential terrorism in itself. The minds of these people are apparently unstable. I’d have restraining orders drawn on all of ‘em.

Listening to Colmes last night, not on the topic of gay marriage, I heard two callers make threats. One said it was a good idea to bomb Dearborn, Michigan. The other said it was a good idea to kill all liberals — including Colmes.

Liberals, of course, are held to another standard. If we rightly compare the threat of Global Warming, a scientifically -proven effect, to the threat of terrorism by arguing the merits — that it has the ability to do harm to us on an even broader scale than terrorism — we’re just a herd of crazy loons.

But when the reich does it through bible thumping, it’s an outrage for them to be called on anything.

Of course he doesn’t. And I expect that the Democrats are going to leave it alone too. There are way too many people out there, democrats and republicans alike, who think that undocumented workers are the reason for all the problems in this country. They are wrong, but there’s no convincing them of that fact.

  22. DieNowForPeace Says:

Clinton Foundation donors remain shrouded in secrecy

The Saudi royal family gave $10 million, according to The Washington Post, and numerous foreign governments have given $1 million. The largest contributors appear to include Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim Helü, Canadian mining entrepreneur Frank Giustra and the Lundin Group, a Canadian oil and gas company. Each has publicly pledged $100 million for development projects.

These gifts raise a number of questions, particularly in the case of Giustra, who in 2005 flew with Clinton to Kazakhstan, where his connections to the former president impressed officials enough to win him a lucrative uranium mining contract. They also raise the question of what favors might be sought by other donors who don’t want to be identified.

Clinton argues that the confidentiality he promised his donors should take precedence over calls for transparency, and that he should not be judged by a different standard from other former presidents who have been allowed to keep their library donors secret.

Some philanthropic organizations go even further. Paulette Maehara, president of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, says that “if donors cannot trust charities to respect their wishes, then philanthropy simply cannot happen.”

These arguments would be valid in most contexts. But given Clinton’s unusual circumstances, gifts to his foundation could rightly be seen as a back door into the good graces of someone who could be a key adviser to the next president. The stakes are simply too high not to have principles of open government take precedence over common fundraising practices.

I seem to remember a time when anyone who advocated wide-spread killing such as the two callers you mention would never have been allowed a media soapbox from which to express those views publicly. What’s going on here? I have a couple of guesses. One — our press and our airwaves have been getting filled with people like Ann Coulter (who advocated bombing the New York Times building) and Michael Savage (who wants to kill all Muslims, 100 million at a time), whose stock in trade is being hateful. This gives hatred an aura of acceptability. The other thing is that these calls make it through the vetting process now. Why? Ratings?

Somehow, I see this mindset as a far bigger threat to our society than gay marriage is or ever could be.

    Good morning, Miss Molly.

Alan Colmes, unlike the rest of Faux news radio, does not screen his callers for political affiliation. They simply give their names and where they live. And he utilizes the free marketplace of dissent to his advantage, and it works wonders for him because he has good stamina in dealing with possibly more conservative than liberal callers. It makes him look real good. The caller who threatened to kill liberals had to be cut off when he started using profanity.

As for Michael Weiner, Mark Levine, a neocon, actually pointed out that while he brags about driving a $180,000 Mercedes and making millions a year, he’s asking out of his listeners funds for the legal defense of his crap lawsuit against CAIR.

The right advocates stopping terror when they need to take a shot against the left. Other than that, they expect others not to be listening in when they advocate terrorist attacks within our own borders to improve the outlook of their smoke-and-mirrors agenda.

As always miss molly, you’re the king and queen and logic. I’ll keep saying that as long as I’m here at TP.

Chris Smith and Rep. Mike Doyle, will hold a press conference on the Cannon Terrace to build support for critical legislation that would provide needed autism services in the U.S. and around the world.

In February 2008, a bi-partisan group of legislators joined Congressmen Smith and Doyle in introducing the Global Autism Assistance Act, (HR 5446). This landmark legislation will establish a global health and education grant program related to autism spectrum disorders and provide support to families, educational institutions, clinics and medical centers in developing nations

It about time they did something to help all of us and our children. When my son was diagnosed with Autism, it was 1 in every 10,000 children effected (2/3 of them boys). Now it is 1 in every 150 children effected. There is no excuse for it to have taken this long to try and help these children, teenagers and adults. It is hard enough that they get labeled from the misinformed or the unaware, as being bad behaved children.

I consider my son my hero, he was had to conquer so many obsticles to be able to adapt and learn. If given the proper tools the sky is the limit for these children and adults.

Believe TP forgot to mention that Rep. Kern had received more that 30,000 emails, many of them vulgar, intimidating, and threatening. Her family has been threatened and there has been the ever popular insinuation that her son is a homosexual.

Since her statements reached the media she has had State Trooper escort around the capital.

    http://www.worldnetdaily.com/ index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=60580

She told WND she’s holding up “rather well” under the onslaught the campaign against her has produced.

“I have the prayers of the people in my state and cards and e-mails from people all over the country who are supporting me,” she said. “I haven’t lost any sleep over this.”

She said the state police investigation actually was launched by another member of the Oklahoma legislature who saw some of the threats contained in e-mails and called authorities.

She was told the investigation was continuing.

“I stand by my statements. Everything I said I can verify. It is a deadly lifestyle,” Kern said.

The response to her statements, actually, would surprise few people familiar with the strategies of the homosexual activists, however.

In chapter one of his best-selling book “The Marketing of Evil,” WND Managing Editor David Kupelian exposes the powerful marketing strategies used by the “gay rights” movement to “sell” Americans on homosexuality as a healthy alternative lifestyle. One key tactic for accomplishing this is called “jamming.”

“Jamming is pure intimidation,” said Kupelian. “And what homosexual activists are doing right now to Sally Kern is a grotesque case of jamming. Basically, they’re trying to silence her by threatening, intimidating, harassing and frightening her until she can’t take any more abuse. No dialogue, no debate – just crush her. That’s their game. It’s despicable, and utterly un-American.”

This woman didn’t give up her First Amendment rights because she is an elected official.

Though the woman didn’t call homosexuals terrorists, they seem to be proving that they are.

BTW, is the need for so-called “jamming” also “inborn?”

Never. I don’t care if Obama or Feingold (who I think is one of the most honest people out there) is elected. If it is ever determined that Americans (high level Americans, at that) had either complicity or direct culpability in 9/11, there is no way in any living person’s lifetime that we would ever know about it. That would never happen.

    http://www.apologeticspress.org/articles/2553

Thus, out of a population of 106,741,426 households, homosexuals represent 0.42% of those households. That is less than one half of one percent!

The most widely accepted study of sexual practices in the United States is the National Health and Social Life Survey (NHSLS). The NHSLS found that 2.8% of the male, and 1.4% of the female population identify themselves as gay, lesbian, or bisexual (Laumann, et al., 1994).

The US attack plan reportedly calls for the Iranian air defense system to be degraded, for numerous Iranian warships to be sunk in the Persian Gulf, and for the most important headquarters of the Iranian armed forces to be wiped out.

More Republican Hypocrisy: Bible Belt States Have the Highest Divorce Rates. And they Worry About Gay Marriage?

Christian conservatives are hellbent on keeping gays from marrying, saying such same-sex unions are an affront to the great institution of marriage, threatening the very social, emotional and legal fabric which binds a man and woman in holy matrimony. Ironically however, it’s these very same bible-thumpers who have the highest divorce rates in the country. The Bible Belt is the breeding ground for broken marriage.

Despite this fact, the right wing evangelical fanatics like to point to states like “liberal” Massachusetts, holding it up as some sort of Sodom and Gomorrah. To the contrary, Massachusetts has the lowest divorce rate in the country at 2.4 per 1,000 population.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the states with the highest divorce rates are to be found in the Bible Belt, where they exceed by 50% the national average of 4.2 per thousand people. The 10 Southern states with some of the highest divorce rates were Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma, North and South Carolina, Florida, Arizona and Texas. By comparison nine states in the Northeast– where allegedly amoral, faithless, Volvo-driving, Birkenstock-wearing, NY Times-reading lefties are found–were among those with the lowest divorce rates: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Rhode Island.

Perhaps these born-again Christians should actually practice what they preach. Family values? Now that’s a joke.

If you ask the parents of children with Autism, they will say the vaccines. That is because they contained a preserative called Thirmisol. What is Thirmasol, it has mercury in it. What does it do when you use it on lab rats. Most DIE. Alot are never the same. Robert F Kennedy Jr. received many letters from parents begging him to look into the matter. What he found was startling, the panel of 10 who approved Thirmisol in Multi-pack vaccines, most were lobbying for the pharmecutical companies. What a surprise!!!

The single dose vaccines do not use Thiramsol as a preserative. He spoke after a meeting with one of the doctors on the panel who had pre-school grandchildren. He told Mr. Kennedy that he wouldn’t allow his grandchildren to get vaccinated til much later. Starting at 3 or 4 years of age. It ruined an entire generation of children in the 90’s when they were heavily using this in the MMR vaccine. It seems to affect the children who ran high fevers and had other complications with the MMR vaccine.

A doctor won a landmark case against a pharmacuetical company that caused his daughters Autism. It was a combination of things and vaccines. Of course the drug companies deny all of this. The parents they say want to lash at someone or something. Sorry, but I’m not one to have knee jerk reactions like that.

    Thanks Fred…

On the influence of divorce on a stable society…

It’s common to hear Conservative Christians (CCs) say that if the heterosexuals were behaving themselves the homosexuals would simply go back into the closets. If this is not clear it means the general moral decline is caused by heterosexual behavior – specifically the lack of respect for marriage. CCs know that Christ said the Creator’s intended was that a man and woman would be “one flesh.” This is a relationship that can only be between an man and a woman.

Believe this and profit. Ignore it and suffer the consequences.

There’s not been a new rule that supercedes this one.

Unfortunately, the suffering is seldom limited to the two people in the marriage. They suffer; their children suffer; their friends suffer; society suffers. Often society pays and pays and pays.

However, it is the case that people tend to keep the events associated with divorce, and remarriage, quiet and private. Whenever TP decides to post an article on the cost – real and emotional – of divorce, you and bitblt will be very prepared.

Regardless, this doesn’t change anything about the societal decline caused by homosexuality.

If Fred wants to start a campaign to strengthen marriage, bitblt wants to join. One man one woman forever.

Dick Durbin is on C-Span now, and one startling statistic (at least for me) he quoted, was that 2 million homeowners who default on their homeloans will drag down the appraised values of an additional 40 million homes. That’s staggering.

Early intervention- Heavy on Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy. OT is great for helping these kids with fine and gross motor skills. Also with socializing, they have a very difficult time with that. Most have severe speech deficts like my son.

Repetition is a big thing also. It helps them so much. Having a very structured home life is absolutely essential. They need structure more than the average child. For example my son takes a bath everyday no matter what at 8:30. This helps them cope better with the variables in everyday life. Concepts are very hard for them also. They don’t understand. I take my son hiking everyday. The reason, the joint compression for these kids is excellent it helps them to focus.

Most have a hard time in public and the reason for that is they can not tune out all the noise. For example you are at the Mall, they will hear everybody who is rattling change, talking on cell phones and everything else all at once. The brain is getting too much stimulation. That is when you will see them putting their hands over there ears. Some make noises at the same time. It is their way of self regulating. Most get very good at it.

If you need more information, no problem. I also work with several teenage boys through our local MRDD.

Since homosexuality has been around for a long, long time, does this mean society has always been “declined”?

Of course, it’s been declining! Back in the good old cavemen days, marriage was the way God intended and all was right with the world. The Bushmen are just trying to restore the rightful place of women as the property, pleasure vessel, and heir maker of men as the Good Lord planned. Only then shall there be heaven and peace on earth. Amen.

I read this last night and I have to say it’s scaring the crap out of me.

This brings us to the leaked news of the next US attack that is still pending against Iran, scheduled for 4 am on the morning of April 6th that is scheduled to last until 4 pm of that same day. “The first reactor at the Bushehr nuclear plant, where Russian engineers are working, is supposed to be spared from destruction. The US attack plan reportedly calls for the Iranian air defense system to be degraded, for numerous Iranian warships to be sunk in the Persian Gulf, and for the most important headquarters of the Iranian armed forces to be wiped out.

Someone please tell me I am being paranoid for no reason!

I hope this is paranoia and not reality, that’s for sure. But it could explain Admiral Fallon’s swift departure, because he has sworn this wouldn’t happen on his watch.

    Thursday, April 3rd 2008,

WASHINGTON - The California congressman who called the Sept. 11 attacks “simply” a plane crash ran for cover Wednesday under a barrage of ridicule from fellow Republicans, first responders and victims’ families.

San Diego GOP Rep. Darrell Issa was under siege for suggesting the federal government had already done enough to help New York cope with “a fire” that “simply was an aircraft” hitting the World Trade Center.

“That is a pretty distorted view of things,” said Frank Fraone, a Menlo Park, Calif., fire chief who led a 67-man crew at Ground Zero. “Whether they’re a couple of planes or a couple of missiles, they still did the same damage.”

“New York was attacked by Al Qaeda. It doesn’t have to be attacked by Congress,” added Long Island Rep. Pete King, a Republican.

Lorie Van Aucken, who lost her husband, Kenneth, in the attacks, slammed Issa’s “cruel and heartless” comments.

“It’s really discouraging. People stepped up and did the right thing. They sacrificed themselves and now a lot of people are getting really horrible illnesses,” she added…

“It seems that with the passage of time, something happened along the way where the scope of the problem and the real extent of the problem has not drifted out to California,” fumed Staten Island GOP Rep. Vito Fossella.

Homosexuals enjoy the same civil rights everyone else does.

Except the right to marry, and a long list of other things.

Not exactly an unbiased site, going by their language.

It’s not an unbiased site. The writings at this site are from a Christian world view.

Marriage is not a civil right. Law did not establish marriage.

Government doesn’t permit it, and a man and a woman who are to be married don’t ask permission of the government.

It’s incidental but marriage is older than either government or religion.

Government keeps a record and requires some health tests- this is in the interest of the government, but a man and a woman can be married without either.

The government record – the marriage license – is somewhat more advanced than simply recording the record of the marriage in the parish Bible. It’s still a marriage whether you have to go to the court house or to the parish church.

A man and a woman are married when they declare they are married.

In America, we have the right to equal protection under the law. That means there are no “second-class citizens,” who can be denied the rights we all enjoy. And who cares who “established” marriage. The point is that in America, constitutional law trumps all - and gays should be afforded the exact same rights as everyone else - which isn’t the caes today.

  131. barfly Says:

On the other hand, he’s not interested in having perversion be an influence in his life or in the lives of the people he cares about.

You, bitblt, are a twisted pervert who should not be allowed near other humans in case the sickness in your thought structure spreads.

ATLANTA - About 1 in 50 U.S. infants is a victim of nonfatal child abuse or neglect in a year, according to the first national study of the problem in that age group.
The study focused on children younger than 1 year, and found
nearly a third were one week old or younger when the abuse or neglect occurred.

“It is a particularly vulnerable group,” said study co-author Rebecca Leeb, of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The researchers counted more than 91,000 infant victims of abuse and neglect in the period Oct. 1, 2005 to Sept. 30, 2006.

The information came from a national data base of cases verified by protective services agencies in 45 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

This is very, very alarming. I grew up like many without any how-to books. It had to do with COMMON SENSE. If you weren’t sure call your MOM or the Doctor to double check. How could anyone possibly neglect a baby that is less than one week old or any age for that matter….makes me want to cry..

A marriage license is sort of the modern version of the parish Bible where births, deaths, and marriages were recorded. Also, people use to record this information in family Bibles. Now licenses are recorded at the country courthouse.

A marriage license is more of a record of the declaration of intent to live together as man and wife than anything.
