Brian Williams tells McCain: ‘You got a very nice reception.’

Despite the fact that John McCain faced some heckling from the audience today after acknowledging he “was wrong” to vote against the MLK day legislation in 1983, NBC anchor Brian Williams told him, “You got a very nice reception from the ground.” Watch it:

McCain told Williams he was proud to have later worked “very hard” to get MLK day recognized in the state of Arizona. But in 1987, when then-governor Evan Mecham rescinded the holiday, McCain said Mecham was “correct in his decision.”

The best thing about the interview was, the whole thing was drowned out by the speaker in the background. It was difficult to focus on what McCain was saying much less hear him. It was a sad and pathetic performance and excuse for an apology. McCain emerged from this week’s news cycle a diminished spectacle and an irrelevancy who stood in the way of civil rights progress offering only the most token argument in support of his position opposing the establishment of MLK day. I watched this on TV and didn’t know whether to burst out laughing or gag.

Brian Williams: “You got a very nice reception from the ground, the boos and heckling were polite”

McCain: We don’t cotton to the needs and wants of Black folk here in Arizona, until we’re forced to.

Nice to see TP going after Rush Limbaugh’s Number #1 Fan Brian Williams.

Remember this Golden Oldie from Mr. Willaims:

“I think Rush has actually yet to get the credit he is due because his audience for so many years felt they were in the wilderness of this country,” Williams told C-SPAN interviewer Brian Lamb in December 2004.

“I think Rush gave birth to the Fox news channel. I think Rush helped to give birth to a movement. I think he played his part in the [Republican] Contract with America. So I hope he gets his due as a broadcaster.”

Williams added that when he worked in the White House press room, he would join with his “friend Brit Hume,” now a Fox News anchor, in citing alleged examples of liberal bias by “you members of the perhaps unintentionally liberal media.” [C-SPAN’s Q&A, Dec. 26, 2004]

McCain is funny if the NBA, NFL, NHL and Government/Companies hadn’t boycotted Arizona he still wouldn’t have a King Holiday. Now as for McCain’s apology it makes since to lie for a vote. If elected he would recall the King Holiday for sure. Brian Williams to really love his job to have to be nice to McCain knowing McCain is a true racist. Brian should have said he had a cold and needed someone to step in for the McCain interview.

Obama didn’t need to show up as he’s been using Dr. King for votes. It might seem a little odd for those to listen to Dr. King’s speech and then here how Obama has changed the meaning of the King Speech.

Leahy, Pelosi and other Senior Law Makers sucking up to Obama were right to ask Hillary to step down. President Clinton signed the Bill for the MLK Monument in Washington DC. Yes the Clintons have been working for Civil Rights during Dr. King’s life and death while Obama just got to read the title I Have A Dream but didn’t bother to read the message he was giving. So if anyone chooses to read what Dr. King did say they will find out it’s nothing like what Obama is saying. Mr. and Mrs. Obama might want to thank Hillary for the years in college as she set up a recruitment for Blacks to enroll in colleges that both Obama’s benefited from, but I wont wait for that. Obama is now selling the snake oil story that his Father got to come to the US because of President Kennedy, only problem is it was President Kennedy but the story sounds good and Americans will buy it.

I agree the best part of the interview was that is was drowned out by the speech in the background. The only part I really caught was at the end when he said” I’m humble to be here”.

Spare us the disingenuous rhetoric. We know how you truly feel about the holiday.

Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.

Ditto. I saw this live also and was wondering, WTF. Can’t they afford those little tiny earmuff gizmos that have little microphone thingys on them, or what??

He always gets a very nice and unearned reception. He is plain frightening and every Democrat on the planet needs to be saying this every day (with charts and video).

  19. flavorino says:

The corporate media serves a a big pile of crap to America everyday and Brian Williams’ job is to sell that crap.

This is the same corporate America that sold those cigarettes that didn’t cause cancer and weren’t addictive, that said seatbelts weren’t necessary, that pushed America to feed junk food to it’s kids.

They will continue to sell crap until they can no longer get away with it, meaning; YOU STOP BUYING IT.

Anyone who trusts television to give you real information is a fool.

  20. Uosdwis says:

What a tool Williams was. I noticed people pointedly looking up at him. Does he even know how to speak softly? And, how do I put this delicately, he was more or less in the direction the shots came from.

  21. jw307505 says:

Hey in case anyone was wondering, theres still an alternative in the republican party, and his name is Ron Paul. And he’s old, I’ll give you that. But he’s wise. McCain, he’s senile.

  22. Fool Zero says:

But in 1987, when then-governor Evan Mecham rescinded the holiday, McCain said Mecham was “correct in his decision.”

Mecham — I’d almost forgotten him. The “picanninny” guy!

While governor, Mecham became known for statements and actions that were widely perceived as insensitive to minorities. Among these actions were the cancellation of the state’s Martin Luther King Day, attributing high divorce rates to working women, and his defense of the word “pickaninny.”

    Wikipedia article on Evan Mecham.

Back in the day, I was wondering who’d ever picaninny like him for governor. And McCain defended his racism?!

  23. kassandrasduplex says:

The corporate media propagandists have succeeded in making Clinton look racist and McCain look like a multiculturalist.

  24. Exit Stage Left says:

Polls cited last night by Rachel Maddow (while sitting in for KO) have McCain 5 points behind both Obama and Hillary. Last week he was closer (maybe even ahead in one). I still have hope that he will continue to poll lower as America catches on to what a two-faced, psycho, racist old geezer he really is.
