Hagel: McCain too busy campaigning to deal with GI Bill.

Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA) is leading the charge on a new “21st Century GI Bill” that will dramatically expand the scope of education assistance provided to returning veterans who served after Sept. 11. While Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has said he is “obviously committed” to “quality education” for GIs, his support for Webb’s bill has thus far been AWOL. In an interview with the Huffington Post yesterday, Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE), who supports the bill, explained McCain’s absence:

“We have talked to John,” Hagel said of the measure, which would remove the buy-in cost for veterans to receive greater education benefits. “John as you know has been involved on other pursuits. He has taken a close look at it, his people are. Both Webb and I had hoped he would get on it. Obviously Obama is on it and Clinton, three out of four Vietnam veterans in the Senate are on it, people like John Warner and James Inhofe are on it.

Indeed, Sens. Barack Obama (D-IL) and Hillary Clinton (D-NY) have both co-sponsored Webb’s bill even though they also have been “involved in other pursuits.”

Republicans are just liars when they say they support the troops.

Put together by veterans……graded and posted. Based on verifiable facts…..there won’t be a troll on this thread either.

How much time does it take to decide if the people putting their lives on the line deserve what they were promised ? Tuition as anyone knows is through the roof, the GI Bill needs to be updated. Roosevelt knew this Bill would also hel the economy.

  6. gummitch says:

McCain was too busy (for a year) to read the bill, according to yesterday’s press. Does he have to pay us all back for the time he’s clearly spending not being a Senator? If I lived in Arizona, I’d figure he’d vacated his office and it was time for a special election.

“Sorry, got no time, got no time. Sorry, we’ll talk about this after I’m King, er, president. Sorry, don’t mention immigration!”

  7. Fritz says:

Gramps McSame is too foggy to pay attention to something so minor as supporting our troops.

  8. misshusseinmolly says:

If McCain thinks the bill is frivolous and not worth his time, that’s one thing. If he doesn’t support the bill, that’s one thing. Even though I wouldn’t agree with him, I’d have some respect for his honesty.

But McCain has told us how “committed” he is to this issue. And expects us to believe he’s “committed” even though he doesn’t have time to even READ the bill.

How many ways are there to say, “liar, liar, pants on fire”?

  10. Marie says:

Republicans in general do not care about the troops — they are far more concerned with their wallets and taxes. They are the Elmer Gantrys of politics — they boast of their patriotism, they wear their little flags, they criticize anyone who doesn’t stand straight enough or remove a hat or hold their hand over their heart when singing the anthem as proof that their patriotism is questionable — but the phonies who salute, and make sure the cameras see them pledging their allegiance are the ones who condone violations of the Constitution, who disrespect troops, who cut the benefits and wages of the troops, who put troops in harm’s way with inadequate armor, who cut corners on food and supplies for troops in the field — McCain is just one of the flock.
He has broken his own campaign finance laws, he has no time to consider this GI bill, he has time only to court the big spenders for his campaign.

It doesn’t matter anyway. No matter what Obama does it will be distorted and lied about by clueless vile fascists like you. The link to the fascist paper that you provide is proof of that. Why don’t you do America a favor and take your fascist diatribe elsewhere?

Flag this fascist troll. This thread is about McShrub’s refusal to support the troops, just like his fascist troll apologist hypocrite friend here. Flag his sorry wimpering butt out of here.

Do you have a point? They both co-sponsored the bill so obviously they took the time to read enough of it to do that. Do you think both Hagel and Webb are for a GI Bill that isn’t good for veterans?

Oh and Ginbreath, Obama’s was the first MLK speech on the news today, idiot.

Even though this is WAAAYYY off-topic, I will repeat here what I posted in another thread in response to another troll:

Obama is in Indiana today, while the other presidential candidates are in Memphis. While obviously, the most significant thing that happened 40 years ago was the assassination of King, it was in Indianapolis that Robert Kennedy gave a crowd of people the news that King was killed. It was largely due to Kennedy’s plea for calm that Indianapolis remained quiet while virtually every other sizable city in the country was beset by riots.

Let the other candidates exploit the anniversary of the tragedy for votes. I’m glad Obama is in Indiana — I feel comfortable with that symbolism.

  30. tombaker says:

To think someone would be so hateful and hysterical as to go to the trouble or registering here over and over and over again, all just for the sake of making some stupid-sounding comment that no one’s ever going to pay heed.

What sad, sad, sad losers our righty troll friends truly are.

  31. Freedom Rebel says:

I’m sorry but campaigning is not a good excuse to get out of doing his sworn duty. He is being paid currently to be Senator and vote in the best interest for the people in his state.

Since Hillary and Obama can keep up; it’s making him look incompetent. I hope the 19%ers are taking a good long look at what their future would be like with McCain. Not pretty…they will be forgotten as soon as the election is over.

  32. Fritz says:

What sad, sad, sad losers our righty troll friends truly are.

They are simply a reflection of their sad, sad, sad loser republiscum leaders.

  33. Freedom Rebel says:

I found out the reason he has no time for the GI bill. He saw CNN’s Gallup Poll on Thursday and it wasn’t pretty. (For Him)

The Situation Room Thursday brought up a Gallup poll that asked people who they least wanted in the White House. Grandpa McSame topped the list, for most of the reasons we bring up constantly: his position on Iraq, his emulating Bush and moreover, because he’s a Republican. Republicans, by a near 2 to 1 margin, preferred Obama to Clinton, their critiques of her much more personal in nature (40% either don’t trust or like her).

Sorry-a little off topic. He is redoubling his efforts at campaigning, trying to save his political butt.. Just give up McCain..

If McCain had any political sense, he would be making headlines by cosponsoring the 21st century GI Bill.
This Bill would be great for veterans…great for recruitment…great for stimulating the economy…great for
    America’s future.

We should have learned our lesson from Iraq…about releasing young people with military training into a jobless economy to fend for themselves.

Education for All Qualified Citizens should be a National Goal..but lets start with the veterans.

  42. MonkeyButt says:

I’m a soldier currently deployed to Afghanistan. The opposition to this bill have sited “retention,” as one of the major reasons to not support this bill. Let me just state as a soldier, that it’s difficult to return to civilian life with the current system that’s available. I will be returning to civilian life with no home, no job, and no system to support me. I’m getting out because if I don’t get out now, there’s no way I can in the future. What they offer for re-enlistment is slowly getting less and less worthwhile, while at the same time, the support available when you get out is horrible. They don’t want to take care of us while we’re in, and they sure don’t care about us once we’re out. It’s a catch 22. I’m opting for the harder decision. Even if I have to dig myself a financial hole to pursue my dreams outside of the military, I’m willing to do it. But on the other hand, the opposition has refered to the new bill as a “free ride.” There’s nothing free about it. I will have finished an initial enlistment of 6 years, having spent 27 months overseas. I know soldiers who have been in four years and been deployed for three of them. Our soldiers have at least paid in full for a good education. It seems to me as if too many of our government officials are willing to spend money on the war, but no the soldiers who are fighting and dying in it. I’m writing my Senator. I hope everyone does the same for the sake of the soldiers who are still healthy enough to go to school when they come home.
