Chris Shays: I still haven’t read pre-war Iraq NIE.
Yesterday, Rep. Chris Shays (R-CT), who voted for the Iraq invasion, admitted in a town hall meeting that he never read the pre-war National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq, the faulty intelligence that the Bush administration used to justify the invasion of Iraq. Shays added that he still hasn’t read the document:
No, I didn’t, thank you. I did not read it. .. I did not read it. But I could still read it, and I probably should. So, who’s on my staff?

That was Shays back in October 2002. Note the fact that his constituents seemed to overwhelmingly oppose him re: invading Iraq. These arrogant jerks seem to think that they’re way more intelligent than their constituents. If he didn’t read the NIE then he can’t even blame faulty intelligence for his faulty vote!

April 7th, 2008 at 1:16 pmThis is a sad fact that happen’s with most bill’s..Another biggie was the 1400 page HMO,Pharma give away medicare, medicade bill…Late on a Friday night after the original bill was agreed on awaiting for a Monday vote Tom Delay slipped in 200 more page’s…..The bill was voted on and passed on that following Monday..Some time later some one beside’s myself screamed about some of the junk in the bill and then they had hearing’s…This is the bill the AARP (insurance firm) backed with out concern for the senior’s…In the hearing’s that followed I believe it was Senator Kerry that stood up and admitted on of his staff had read maybe 40 page’s of the bill and even he had not read any of it…Watching the entire mess on C-Span it became clear to me I knew more than our representative’s knew…It was a terrible bill and it has created a nightmare of paper work and double speek…This is how it goe’s in Washington…..They create messes we have to live with…..Blessings

McCain is no different. He claims he’s the candidate who has the foreign policy knowledge/experience, yet he can’t get even basic facts about the Iraq conflict correct.

VA Voter - in fact, hardly any of either the Dems or Republicans read the damn thing and most voted in the affirmative anyway. Those few who DID read it didn’t vote “yes.” But the bottom line is that this was a huge transgression against the Constitutional purpose of the Congressional branch, and except for the minority who voted against that god-awful resolution, they ALL bear responsibility for that horrendous blunder.

According to a report from The Hill…
The Hill contacted all 69 sitting senators who voted on the war authorization in the wee hours of Oct. 11, 2002, as well as former senators who did so.
Twenty-two senators told The Hill that they read the document [NIE] before the vote. The offices of 38 senators said they had not read the full report or could not recall, while six senators did not comment. Nine sitting senators and 21 former senators did not return repeated requests for comment.
