Yesterday, Rep. Chris Shays (R-CT), who voted for the Iraq invasion, admitted in a town hall meeting that he never read the pre-war National Intelligence Estimate on Iraq, the faulty intelligence that the Bush administration used to justify the invasion of Iraq. Shays added that he still hasn’t read the document:
No, I didn’t, thank you. I did not read it. .. I did not read it. But I could still read it, and I probably should. So, who’s on my staff?

April 7th, 2008 at 12:45 pmWhat a f***ing idiot!!
April 7th, 2008 at 12:46 pm“I did not read it…”
“…and I do not intend to read it…”
“…in fact, nobody else ought to read it either…”
April 7th, 2008 at 12:46 pmI would have thought he’d at least read the “executive summary.”
Sheesh…
When it comes to something as important as WAR, you read the intelligence — IDIOTS!!
April 7th, 2008 at 12:47 pmSo, who’s on my staff?
If I had to guess , I’d say Jeff Gannon………..
April 7th, 2008 at 12:48 pmSo Shays didn’t even read the “evidence” Bush was using to justify the Iraq invasion. So why did he vote to support Bush? On Bush’s say-so only?
Good doggie!
April 7th, 2008 at 12:50 pmFar too many of these so called representatives of the people did not do their job when the WAR CRIMINAL BUSH lied to them about Iraq.
I wish we could just have a clean slate and kick every last one of the representatives that did not read that report out of office.
IMPEACH BUSH/CHENEY

April 7th, 2008 at 12:54 pmYesterday, Rep.
To me , this is both unconscionable and reprehensible ; how could anyone take the looming spectre of certain death to thousands upon thousands of individuals so lightly and be so flippant and uncaring about it like this jackass seems to be ?
What a stupid slug ……………
April 7th, 2008 at 12:55 pmI suspect that very few of those…people read it.
For one thing, they probably knew that we were going to war no matter what.
For another thing, the veteran politicians knew that it’d be full of crap so why bother?
April 7th, 2008 at 12:55 pmSorry Rastaman.
Correction:
For one thing, they probably knew that we were going to invade and occupy Iraq for an indefinite period of time no matter what.
April 7th, 2008 at 12:57 pmHey, I didn’t read it either and I came to the exact opposite conclusion. Dumb Idea! Finish the job in Afghanistan!
Turns out the report wasn’t even needed.

April 7th, 2008 at 1:02 pm“What, me go back and read the information I should have read 6 years ago, so that I can be an informed and competent Representative of my constituents? That is SO not gonna happen!”
April 7th, 2008 at 1:04 pmWhat about all the dems that did read it and voted for the war?

April 7th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
What about all the dems that did read it and voted for the war?
They suck …………..Just not as bad as the horseshit GOP and your imbecilic simian hero in the Oval Office.
April 7th, 2008 at 1:07 pmIm speechless
Someone needs to do a National Intelligence Estimate of all members of Congress and kick the incompetent morons the hell out of Washington
April 7th, 2008 at 1:08 pmThose weapons of mass destruction (I didn’t read about) must be here somewhere, maybe under the podium! And the crowd roared in laughter as if hearing the joke for the very first time

April 7th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
What about all the dems that did read it and voted for the war?
They ain’t braggin’, dipshit.
April 7th, 2008 at 1:13 pm.
O.K.
So I ran a stop sign(so they say) the other day and hit someone on a bike and killed them. When the arresting officer asked me if I read the sign that said STOP I responded, “No, I didn’t, thank you. I did not read it. .. I did not read it. But I could still read it, and I probably should.”
QUESTION:
Should that officer let me off?
.
April 7th, 2008 at 1:14 pm‘Perhaps the greatest irony for Shays, though, is this: What are now his personal beliefs - his view that detection, pro-active policies and pre-emption should guide anti-terrorist policy - define his sense of public responsibility. Yet his mail and calls continue to run about 50-to-1 against war with Iraq.
He insisted he would not relent.
“I know too much,” he said, “about this threat.”‘
———————————————–
That was Shays back in October 2002. Note the fact that his constituents seemed to overwhelmingly oppose him re: invading Iraq. These arrogant jerks seem to think that they’re way more intelligent than their constituents. If he didn’t read the NIE then he can’t even blame faulty intelligence for his faulty vote!

April 7th, 2008 at 1:14 pmShay, “Who’s on first……” Typical frigin dipshit GOPig.
April 7th, 2008 at 1:16 pmThis is a sad fact that happen’s with most bill’s..Another biggie was the 1400 page HMO,Pharma give away medicare, medicade bill…Late on a Friday night after the original bill was agreed on awaiting for a Monday vote Tom Delay slipped in 200 more page’s…..The bill was voted on and passed on that following Monday..Some time later some one beside’s myself screamed about some of the junk in the bill and then they had hearing’s…This is the bill the AARP (insurance firm) backed with out concern for the senior’s…In the hearing’s that followed I believe it was Senator Kerry that stood up and admitted on of his staff had read maybe 40 page’s of the bill and even he had not read any of it…Watching the entire mess on C-Span it became clear to me I knew more than our representative’s knew…It was a terrible bill and it has created a nightmare of paper work and double speek…This is how it goe’s in Washington…..They create messes we have to live with…..Blessings
April 7th, 2008 at 1:20 pmThe arrogance of these bastards is just astounding. Sending the men and women in our armed forces to war without looking at all the available information is a dereliction of duty. Not even reading the cliffs notes version of the available intelligence is downright amoral.
April 7th, 2008 at 1:22 pmJanuary 2002:
‘Interviewed in Jerusalem on CNN’s Larry King Live Wednesday, Rep. Chris Shays, R-Connecticut, chairman of the National Security Subcommittee, likened Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to a “snake in the bedroom.”
“We didn’t chop off his head [during the Gulf War] and he’s around,” Shays said. “He’s developing weapons of mass destruction, chemical and biological. We know that within three to five years he’ll have nuclear weapons.”
Speaking on the same program from Muscat, Oman, Sen. Joseph Lieberman, D-Connecticut, a member of the Armed Services Committee, said “Saddam just stands out” because of his weapons of mass destruction and his “evil intentions” toward the United States.’
http://archives.cnn.com/ 2002/ US/ 01/ 10/ ret.iraq.terror/ index.html
Nuclear weapons eh? Weapons of mass destruction eh? The “snakes in the bedroom” are Shays and LIEberman! When are they going to apologize for their mistakes?
April 7th, 2008 at 1:22 pmI love how these guys pretend they are the ones working to protect us, yet they can’t even be bothered with things like reading national intelligence estimates. McCain is no different. He claims he’s the candidate who has the foreign policy knowledge/experience, yet he can’t get even basic facts about the Iraq conflict correct.
April 7th, 2008 at 1:35 pmAt this point Chris, why bother?
And people actually voted for this guy??? To do what?
Find out the facts and vote accordingly? Ummm, no.
Act like a concerned member of Congress and vote in the best interest of his constituents? Again, nope.
OTOH, it is good to know that Shays CAN read — although he doesn’t even bother reading stuff like NIE’s when people’s lives are on the line.
Honestly, what kind of a moron votes for a “congressman” who can’t even be bothered to acquaint himself with the facts or issues before the congress?
April 7th, 2008 at 1:36 pmYou voted for treason and didn’t read the menu? Mr. Shays, resign before you are indicted. You should consider suicide as the honorable thing.
April 7th, 2008 at 1:41 pm#20 Actually he isn’t. VA may be a partisan hack, but he isn’t quite a bannable troll. You may wanna take a que from VA or Exeley so you don’t have to create 5 accounts a day.
April 7th, 2008 at 1:42 pmWhat about them? Kick ‘em to the curb. Wrong is wrong. It doesn’t matter whether they have a D or an R next to their name.
April 7th, 2008 at 1:43 pmThe manipulated pre War inteligence report is the evidence of how the Criminals in the WH and in the Pentagon LIE to the American people and to the World community. It should be read by everyone, specially the politicians responsible for the Iraq FIASCO! PAUL WOLFOWITZ DOUGLAS FEITH STEPHEN HADLEY RICHARD PERLE ELLIOT ABRAMS SCOOTER LIBBY JOHN HANNAH DAVID WURMSER ANDREW NATSIOS DAN BARTLETT MITCH DANIELS GEORGE TENET COLIN POWELL DONALD RUMSFELD CONDOLEEZZA RICE DICK CHENEY GEORGE W. BUSH should all be indicted, investigated, imprisioned, and executed for WAR CRIMES!
April 7th, 2008 at 2:02 pmAnd if you’re reading this Exley, suck on it!
I was proven right. Congress has never seen this intel - still!
April 7th, 2008 at 2:44 pmThe outrage should be just as great at Hillary Clinton, who also did not read the NIE before voting to give Bush the power to invade Iraq. You just know that if there were not a sign-in log showing those who did take the time to review the NIE that Clinton would lie through her teeth and say she had! Get both of these incompetents — Clinton and Shays — out of office ASAP.
April 7th, 2008 at 3:01 pmThis effing idiot admits in public that he is en effing idiot who approves war, sends soldiers to die, and is complicitly responsible for the destruction of a country and its citizens; and he never read the intel brief??! WTF
April 7th, 2008 at 5:00 pmWhat about all the dems that did read it and voted for the war?
VA Voter - in fact, hardly any of either the Dems or Republicans read the damn thing and most voted in the affirmative anyway. Those few who DID read it didn’t vote “yes.” But the bottom line is that this was a huge transgression against the Constitutional purpose of the Congressional branch, and except for the minority who voted against that god-awful resolution, they ALL bear responsibility for that horrendous blunder.
April 7th, 2008 at 5:28 pm“I was elected to lead, not to read.” - President Schwarzenegger, Simpsons The Movie
These Republican cockroaches parody themselves.
April 7th, 2008 at 5:28 pmHonestly, what kind of a moron votes for a “congressman” who can’t even be bothered to acquaint himself with the facts or issues before the congress?
For some, as long as he has an “R” after his name is enough. Sad.
April 7th, 2008 at 5:33 pmNot surprising.
According to a report from The Hill…
The Hill contacted all 69 sitting senators who voted on the war authorization in the wee hours of Oct. 11, 2002, as well as former senators who did so.
Twenty-two senators told The Hill that they read the document [NIE] before the vote. The offices of 38 senators said they had not read the full report or could not recall, while six senators did not comment. Nine sitting senators and 21 former senators did not return repeated requests for comment.
