A new report by the Energy Information Administration — “the statistical and analytical arm of the Energy Department” — predicts that “average gasoline prices will shoot up to $3.60 a gallon in June and remain nearly that high into fall.” These record prices are also expected to “reduce summer gasoline demand for the first time in 17 years.”
And so it goes
April 8th, 2008 at 2:10 pmI assume that the price of diesel and jet fuel will also be going up. Expect this to domino over to affect the price of any goods that get to market via truck or rail, and expect the tourist industry to suffer as more people stay home this summer due to travel costs.
Would somebody please explain to me how all this is supposed to convince me that invading other countries for their oil is such a good idea? It really doesn’t seem to be working out.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:17 pm.
Do I hear $3.70? $3.70!
How about $3.75? $3.75!
Give me a $3.90. Do I hear a $3.90?
o.k. $3.85… $3.85…
Going Once… Going Twice…
$4.00 from the gentelman wearing the robe standing in the shadows at the back …
.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:18 pm$3.60 a gallon? COOL! Cuz right now I’m paying $3.67 as of this morning.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:20 pmPFFFFT.
That means Soaring food prices, airline tickets, clothing, and all the basic necessities.
Miss Molly you are right, more people will stay home. So all the places in the US that are normally packed in the summer, will have vacancies. That is a shame, those places count on the summer to make their whole year.
Thanks Georgie for ruining everyone’s summer plans.. Great Job.

That is very, very good.. I love it. Sad, but true.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:25 pmRemember that $3.60 is an average. That puts the $4.00 range in play for many, many people.
Badmoodman, where are you? When I was in OR a few weeks ago the price of gas was significantly more than Chicagoland (where I live).
April 8th, 2008 at 2:28 pmHere in the PNW, especially in the San Juans, it already is at @ $4.00 Reg unleaded.
I fear… er… predict $4.50 – $4.75 come Labor day… YEA!!!
:(

Look on the bright side. when the dem’s are elceted to the white house TP will be outa business! BUHAHAHAHAHAHA

Yeah — just like Rush Limbaugh and his ilk were all out of business once the Republicans controlled the White House, both houses of Congress, and the Supreme Court? Rush still earned his living by blaming everything on the liberals and continues to do so.
However, bashing the other side merely for the sake of bashing isn’t why TP will survive. Holding our leaders accountable for what they do will never go out of style, whether our leaders are Democrats or Republicans; liberals or conservatives; progressives or reactionaries.
Unlike some people who are convinced that their side can do no wrong, we believe oversight is more effective in making the world a better place than merely drinking kool-aid.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:36 pmMsMolly, you’re pissing in the wind trying to get any goopers to understand the concept of accountability and that us liberals don’t care who’s screwing up, they need to be held acountable.
Goopers don’t believe in being responsible for anything…yet they are irresponsible in every regard.
F**kers. Talk about infuriating!
April 8th, 2008 at 2:39 pmAs of 4/4/08, I had to pay 3.77/gallon thank you very much.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:39 pmI predict that the cost of gasoline will increase until about December 15, 2008. Then there will be a drastic reduction to about $2.00 per gallon by January 21, 2009. When the Democratic Congress passes a retroactive excess (windfall)profits tax they will scream “Who, us?” And Daddy Bush and The Dick Cheney will flip us all off on their way to the Cayman Islands Bank. It was, is, and will be a plan, Man! In the old days Before WTF Bush it was called a conspiracy or a monoply. Now it is called upyours.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:40 pm$3.60?
We have that now.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:43 pmHad enough?
April 8th, 2008 at 2:44 pmdem’s are elceted to the white house
Spelling lessons are a good investment.

Well said, misshusseinmolly. You articulated the viewpoint of most of us perfectly. We expect accountability from our elected officials, regardless of party.
April 8th, 2008 at 2:55 pmI’d say that’s a safe bet. We have $3.46 already — and it hasn’t even stopped snowing yet.

It works out really well if what you’re about is selling oil.
April 8th, 2008 at 3:38 pmThe cheapest I’ve seen in N. Cali is $3.59 for 87 octane.
Predicting gas will be $3.60 by July……I’m not in awe of these non-rocket scientists.
April 8th, 2008 at 3:42 pmWell shit, gas prices are predicted to go up this spring and summer? What will they tell me next, to conserve energy, turn off power!?
April 8th, 2008 at 3:43 pmGuess the Energy Information Administration (paid by our tax $$s?) just can’t keep focused long enough to get it right. Pacific NW has been +3.75 in Columbia River Gorge this year. Wonder if they are ever going to get busted and pay us back the mega bucks they stole from Washington and Oregon?
April 8th, 2008 at 3:43 pmGood thing we are still filling plastic bottles with water to ship around the world to places which already have water. Boycott FIJI water.
April 8th, 2008 at 4:13 pmmeanwhile in my neighborhood, the high-volume local stores are selling MILK at $3.98 a gallon, the smaller store that I usually shop at is selling a gallon at $4.29.
April 8th, 2008 at 4:19 pmA gallon COSTS them $3.64. A ten percent profit margin would result in a cost to me of $4. I don’t mind payoing more at the small store because its more convenient and Ive shopped there for over a decade.
Whining Americans addicted to oil. It costs more in most other countries. Even Canada is over $4.00 a gallon at $1.12 per liter.
April 8th, 2008 at 4:48 pmno need to wait ’till June, they’re here now in California!
April 8th, 2008 at 4:55 pm$3.60 a gallon by June?
That’s already a reality where I live…
April 8th, 2008 at 5:21 pm$3.60 by June? In what reality? In parts of L.A., we’re already paying over $4.00. At least one station in Northern California is charging over $5.00.
April 8th, 2008 at 6:44 pm“Energy Department predicts $3.60 a gallon gas prices in June.”
Geniuses!
