House conservatives ignore housing crisis over the recess.»

Traditionally, party leaders prepare “recess kits” for congressional members before they go on break, to help members stay on message. Today, the Hill reports that Republican recess packets distributed on Mar. 13 did not mention the housing crisis at all:

The 21-page document distributed on March 13 addressed economic concerns ranging from overspending to tax hikes to earmarks but did not address the foreclosure crisis. […]

[GOP Conference Chairman Adam] Putnam’s [R-FL] office last month distributed the recess kits, which state that the economy is “slowing.”

GOP members may not be concerned about the economy, but their constituents are. Economists have predicted that 1.4 million Americans will face foreclosure in 2008. A recent poll found that 81 percent of Americans feel the country is on the wrong track, with 78 percent saying the economy is getting worse.

Reich-wingers gladly and proudly spend 12 billion/month on Iraq, but will never, EVER go out of their way to help Americans.

    Reich-wingers HATE America…..this is a fact.

  5. Buckie Boy Says:

They could care less, they have government paid healthcare, and a government paycheck (that they don’t near earn). Let the public eat cake.

  6. tombaker Says:

GOP power-players like having the economy in this condition. It creates more “opportunities” for them to rip the public off, or otherwise get a lot of money by doing nothing. It is, after all, their “god-given right”.

I have to disagree, Matt. They LOVE America, when it reflects themselves. The trouble is that they despise the majority of AMERICANS–who aren’t ‘PLU’ ( People Like Us’).

Housing crisis is part of a choreographed plan of economic shock therapy. The “haves” get richer, the “have-nots” get foreclosed on.

These idiots have no idea what will happen to their own home values. There equity is deminishing day by day. Mr. Bernakee lost about $250k so far and going furhter down. Lets not lift a finger and let it ride out. Then when millions of Americans loose trillions of dollars in there home equity, we can all camp outside the White House and begin a new shanty town. These people have no concept on what this is doing to the nation.

  14. bluefish Says:

They were ignoring it while in session, so why would they treat it any differently over recess?

  15. tombaker Says:

sure carlos - it had nothing to do with skeevy greedy bankers screwing people - never does, right.

business is always right no matter what,

ordinary citizens can always “get screwed” no matter what.

95% of Mortgages are paid on time. This is to bail out the specualtors that bought 2 or 3 homes. Or Idiots that took out crappy loans assuming their house values would continue upwards. Think Progress wants to reward irresponsible behavior. Hey I got drunk the other day, I want the government to pay my tab! That’s what Progressives want!

Nice try bobo, but no go. You don’t read much do you? I don’t mean the comics, I mean real news with words and stuff. If you don’t like bailouts, then you should know that since the housing ‘crisi’ hit a few weeks ago, bear sterns was bailed out to the tune of billions and billions of dollars - OUR MONEY. The executives at bear still kept their payouts, they didn’t have to give anything back for the bad choices they made with the company. But you piss and moan because some of your fellow citizens need help right now. The right side simply hates people. Simply hates them. They love babies, until they are born. They love the military, as long as they are fighting an illegal war. They like retirees, as long as they die soon. The right side is a criminal enterprise hellbent on raping the treasury.

Economists have predicted that 1.4 million Americans will face foreclosure in 2008.

About 1.3 million homes received foreclosure-related warnings last year, up from 717,522 in 2006, Irvine-based RealtyTrac Inc. said.

More than 1 percent of all U.S. households were in some phase of the foreclosure process last year, up from about half a percent in 2006, RealtyTrac said.

I guess 1% of US households don’t rate anything but an ambiguous footnote that the economy is “slowing”. Do ya think???

Or could it be the fact that the US is losing jobs every month. The country is hemorrhaging loses from skyrocketing fuel prices, foreclosures, lost jobs, and bad or no health care to name a few. There best is that it is slowing. WOW.. Talk about out of touch with reality.

  23. 5th Estate Says:

Unreported to my knowledge, but perhaps part of the problem might involve renters as well as homeowners.
After all people have been known to buy a second property using equity loans to rent out at rates that would fully support their own mortgages AND pay for the secondary rental property–either garnering a direct profit or improving their equity and credit standing.

I wonder how many of these ‘amateur landlords’ might now be facing a crunch and are thus obliged to raise their rents to adjust to the higher expenses? How many renters then might be forced to relocate? nd how much in increased rent can such landlords charge new tenants forced to go from homeownership to renting?

We learned this from Hurricane Katrina didn’t we? Poor is the “New Black” in America. It doesn’t matter if you’re white, or old, or hispanic anymore. If you’re poor it’s your own fault and you need to go! Now everybody, GRAB YOUR WHITE SHEET!

Economic concerns from overspending. I’m thinkin’ the overspending wouldn’t be an issue if you stopped giving George Bush a blank check to fund the war. Gee, problem solved. How hard was that. You guys accounting skills are learned in High School. You can’t spend more than your bringing in. This is simply Accounting 101…
