Here’s the part that I simply do not understand: I’m a busy person. I work 50-60 hours a week, I spend time maintaining my home and other property, I invest time to relate to my wife and children, I keep up my golf game, and I have no problem in understanding and maintaining the distinction between religious sects in general. That is, I also invest time to understand what’s going on by examining different sources and forming (and maintaining) my own opinion. Specifically, I completely get the origin and the history of the Sunni/Shi’ite divide.

How is it that politicians can’t get this? I’ll allow a little slack–say, five years since 9/11/2001–to cover any paradigm problems. It’s been more than 7.5 years, and it’s not just McCain that doesn’t get it.

I conclude that there exists a deliberate and intentional effort to obscure the understanding and internalization of this vital distinction, e.g., terms like islamofascism.
