Gordon Brown will skip Olympic opening ceremony in Beijing.

Earlier this week, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown “ruled out a boycott of the Beijing Olympics” saying that “the Dalai Lama himself has said that he does not want to see a boycott.” But the BBC is reporting today that now Brown has said will not attend the opening ceremony but is “not boycotting the Olympics and planned to attend the closing ceremony.” Just last month, German Chancellor Angela Merkel “became the first world leader to decide not to attend the Olympics in Beijing.” While President Bush has said definitively that he will attend the games, White House press secretary Dana Perino yesterday left the door open to the possibility that he will also skip the opening ceremony.

UpdateA spokeswoman for the Prime Minister has said Brown "never planned to attend" the opening ceremony. "There is absolutely no change in our position."

Bush is no doubt waiting to see what other heads of state plan to do. Sort of like waiting to see who else is attending a party before sending in your RSVP. True leadership in action.

Yep, the horse's ass doesn't wanna go stag.

If they had a huge photo of Bush displayed at opening day he would show up.

GDumbya will skip the opening ceremony. All things being equal, he would much prefer to drink himself into a stupor in his hotel room. Hope the Secret Service puts out a bowl of pretzels to go with his Jack Daniels . . . and then takes the night off.

The Chimperor dare not upset the country that has gobbled up the majority of U.S. debt. He'll attend, like the good Chinese (and Saudi) lapdog that he is.

  6. GeeDubs Says:

Bush may want to leave early, though...and China is a big country...kind of big like Brazil and Russia.

  7. RUCerious Says:

Bush should DEFINITELY attend the Olympic Dart throwing contest, as his picture will be prominently displayed.

Personally, I would still rather see GDumbya compete in the javelin-catching event. He's a shoe-in for the gold medal -- to be awarded posthumously, of course.

Good for Gordon Brown, he's only half a hypocrite.

Boycotting the whole Olympics only hurts the athletes that have trained so hard and so long. There are so many other ways to get your point across that you don't agree with China's treatment of it's citizens. Sure Boycott the opening ceremony, I agree. They treat their citizens badly, and always have.

Put heavy tariffs on their products that are shipped to our country. Start buying more products from other countries and less from China.

Another one to boycott is Victoria Secret:

Victoria Secret and slave labor practices with workers in Jordan. They gave them 3 minutes to make a bikini bottom that they were on paid 4 cents and Victoria Secret charges $14.00 to the public. Made them toil 14 to 15 hour days. Imprisoned some of the workers, beat them amd screamed at them daily. Workers went on strike. Workers paid $1,500 to $3,000 for work visas to work in Jordan. So the owner was going to forcibly deport them, leaving them no way to ever pay back the debt of their work visas. During deportation the owner said he was going to cut off food and water to the ones being deported. ( They are basically slave labor)The article ran in the Huffington Post and many other major newspapers.

This is why I don't buy from Victoria Secret.. You have a choice whenever you spend money, consumers can make a difference. As much as I can I buy FAIR TRADE, it helps everyone. (Not to mention all the USA products) I know they are not slaves, not mistreated, not children, and are being paid a fair wage.

What will get any Countries attention is hit them in the wallet were it hurts the most.

And it all procedes with a cheeky grin and a sickening smugness that is as arrogant as it is insultingBedava mp3 indir.
