Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week comes early this year.
Last October, conservatives, led by David Horowitz, held Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week “to educate students and other Americans about the ‘cadre of Islamic terrorists‘ who ‘have declared Holy War on the U.S.’” The week of events was widely mocked, but that hasn’t stopped it from making an early return. As Josh Marshall notes today, “October’s IAW was such a good fundraising tool” that Horowitz has “decided to make this week Islamofascism Awareness Week too.”

I agree. Most Israelis are not warmongering Likudniks. According to recent surveys, a majority of Israelis want dialogue with Hamas. Those old, specific definitions of “fascism” that delineate characteristic points of fascism (many of which, coincidentally, line up quite well with right-wing ideology), those are out. They’re outdated. Pre-9/11 thinking, you might say.
Nope, if we’re going to defeat this new type of enemy, we have to be able to label it. How can we whip up support for jingoism if we can’t slap wicked labels on those we disagree with?
