Let’s see if I got this straight. First Jonah Goldberg told us that Socialists are fascists. Now, David Horowitz tells us that Islamists are fascists. So, that must mean Socialists turn toward Mecca to pray, and Islamists are proponants of National Heath Care.

Now, shoeless, let’s not fall into the trap of false syllogisms.

What the tighty-righties are trying to tell us is simply that everything bad is fascist.

Those old, specific definitions of “fascism” that delineate characteristic points of fascism (many of which, coincidentally, line up quite well with right-wing ideology), those are out. They’re outdated. Pre-9/11 thinking, you might say.

Nope, if we’re going to defeat this new type of enemy, we have to be able to label it. How can we whip up support for jingoism if we can’t slap wicked labels on those we disagree with?

In the face of these propagandistic needs, “fascism” demands to be redefined.

The Militia Movement

The militia movement is a relatively new right-wing extremist movement consisting of armed paramilitary groups, both formal and informal, with an anti-government, conspiracy-oriented ideology. Militia groups began to form not long after the deadly standoff at Waco, Texas, in 1993; by the spring of 1995, they had spread to almost every state. Many members of militia groups have been arrested since then, usually on weapons, explosives and conspiracy charges. Although the militia movement has declined in strength from its peak in early 1996, it remains an active movement, especially in the Midwest, and continues to cause a number of problems for law enforcement and the communities in which militia groups are active.

The Republican Party comes to mind. Destruction of the Constitution, Bill of Rights, the economy, 4,000+ military members. Oh and then there was the total destruction of the system of checks and balances.

Correct. And David Whorowitz is out there doing their work. Drumming up the fervor against other sectors of society. These people thrive on scapegoating. They are the soul of Middle Eastern religious hate groups. They ARE the extremists among the American populace.
