McCain defiant on vote against 1990 civil rights bill.

In 1990, President George H.W. Bush vetoed a civil rights bill requiring employers to show a “business necessity” to screening out women or minority applicants, arguing that it would impose quotas for hiring minorities. Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) voted to sustain Bush’s veto — a veto that survived by only one vote in the Senate. Last weekend, McCain was unapologetic for his vote, calling the issue “more complicated in the 90s” and repeating the false argument that it would have led to quotas. Seven years earlier, McCain had also voted against the creation of a holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., though he now calls that vote a “mistake.” (HT: Huffington Post)

The McMaverick is no maverick at all - he's a lock-step Righty who lies really well to cover for it.

Civil rights issues seem to be biting "Johm" McCain in the old keester lately.

Hey, what's the big deal? He just grew up that way.
Better be quiet, or you'll piss the old coot off.

"More complicated" in the 90's? Whenever I hear somebody dismiss an issue with the word "complicated", it's generally condescendingly said with an implication of that "you are too (stupid, dim, uneducated, naive, etc.) to understand."

And what it REALLY means is either "I have no clue/explanation" -- or "I voted that way to please a certain constituency at the time, and now I'm trying to please a different one, so I can't afford to embarrass myself by giving a straight answer."

McCain clearly is a racist. This only should disqualify him from being President.

    .

    What McSpeak meant was:
"I'm not a racist when I need the minority's vote."

Just another old white-men-only elitist. the right is rotten with them.

It's HARD to prioritize his racist, homophobic and misogynistic agendas.

    pete,
Agreed, this KKK Trash McCain should be put in a straightjacket, locked up and the key thrown away. He's trash! Or more humanely, make him a Musuem item of what America used to be like. In the new America, there will be no room for racists like McInsane.

  11. Shayne Says:

Too bad he's "not conservative enough" for the righties. I guess they prefer their leaders to wear their KKK robes all the time.

Which s precisely why they are still so dangerous. Their dreams are shattered and they face total extinction. Very dangerous.

    pete,
I'm being accused of being a troll on another thread. Did I write anything that offended you? It seems we agree on things so I don't know why Republic of Stupidity is accusing me.

Let me know what I did wrong Pete, please.

Why beat around the bush, McCain is a racist. The voters don't know it yet, but they'll find out soon enough. If you think the last 8 years were bad, McCain brings the bad news of more war, and a greater divide between the haves, and the have nots.

I've no idea Frank. Though, with some of the recent "troll fests", and "sock puppet sprees" I think that sensitivities are... well, sensitive. I wouldn't let it bother me. Say what you feel and fight the good fight.

Nobody ever lost an election by overestimating the guilty fear most whites harbor (either explicitly, or tacitly) over their roles in the hideous injuries inflicted by 'racial relations' in Murka.

  17. paleolib Says:

McNutzi has enough functioning brain cells left to know that his immigration stance puts him too close to the line for the hard core racists in the Republican base. He has to scream "quota" to keep them off his back. The press is too lazy to fact check this one so he won't lose too much over the lie.

  18. pete Says:

About as close as "the librul media" has come to calling McCain on anything was to berate him for "correcting his misstatements" about AQ in Iran. As long as he professes anything close to the Reichwing party line, he could call the sky red and they won't challenge him. However, if he should slip and promote anything "librul" they'll fall over each other condemning him. I don't like him, but, I don't envy his position of being beholden to all that's worst in the Republicriminal party.

  19. kassandrasduplex Says:

But here's a real irony about quotas and affirmative action: after time, some of those who benefit from these liberal, progressive programs semm to turn around and become conservative right wingers. It's as if they reject being identified as having benefitted from a perceived "handout".
