Matalin: ‘This Brilliant Man’ — Dick Cheney — ‘Has Changed The Nature Of’ The Vice Presidency»

In the span of 30 seconds on this morning’s Meet the Press, former Cheney adviser Mary Matalin offered a series of bewildering, eye-opening statements in defense of the Bush administration.

Asked who John McCain should pick as Vice President, Matalin offered that the candidate must have “good cred on having experience across the board.” She argued:

Dick Cheney has changed the nature of that office. This brilliant man has made that office completely relevant.

Indeed, Cheney — who has argued that his office is not “an entity within the executive branch” — has changed the nature of the office in many destructive ways, operating in secrecy and callously disregarding the views of the American public.

Host Tim Russert then asked whether Condoleezza Rice would make a suitable Vice President. Matalin said:

You know, people don’t know about Dr. Rice is that she weighed in on every domestic issue before the President.

Recall, Rice was the National Security Adviser to Bush in his first term before becoming Secretary of State. Despite having a very thin record on domestic policy issues, she was apparently one of Bush’s key domestic policy advisers, too.

When Russert noted that the selection of Rice would signify a “third Bush term,” Matalin responded, “People are sick of this Bush-bashing stuff.” In fact, as a recent Gallup poll shows, people are simply sick of Bush. Watch Matalin’s comments:

My favorite moment in any one of these broadcasts is the point at which some elitist monster like Matalin says “People are . . .” as though her own personal viewpoint is validated by the vast majority of “people” — none of whom she’s ever met, much less polled. What Matalin really means (just like every other pundit or politico) is “my friends and I”. And by “my friends”, she means those people she’s gone out of her way to surround herself with so that her moronic opinions aren’t challenged.

And, yes, she’s married to Carville, who does exactly the same thing but with different opinions and, no doubt, different friends.

Matalin: “You know, people don’t know about Dr. Rice is that she weighed in on every domestic issue before the President.”

    So…. it’s all Condi’s fault?

  3. Badmoodman Says:

Shouldn’t Matalin be in her coffin while the sun is up?

I am curious to find out what board she’s talking about.

The one used to stretch the prisoners on? The one used during a prisoner’s foot roasting? The waterboard? Which one?

Dick Cheney, Vice-President of the United States of Torture.

“People are sick of this Bush-bashing stuff”
    ~Mary Ritalin

And by that she means, of course, she is sick of hearing his authoritarian father figure being criticised, because in her teeny little mind any criticism amounts to “bashing” -regardless of how rightful these criticisms are, whether they are earned, and/or their validity.

You say that as if it were a BAD thing? Why do you hate Murka?

  14. Gregor Samsa Says:

This brilliant man has made that office completely relevant.

Translation: Cheney has ignored international law, the constitution of the US, the wishes of the American people, has made torture a matter of official American policy, and I am ok with all of the above.

  15. tom Says:

Matalin is giving Coulter a run for her money in “the most outlandish statement” department. She like to sit next to her husband on Sunday news programs and talk trash like this, though. It spices up their love-life.

Oops. Sorry. I just thought of Matalin and Carville makin’ bacon . . . and threw up a little in my mouth.

  16. Badmoodman Says:

  23. JMOHR Says:

One does not expect or anticipate much push back from the Russerts of this world. We once again see a media that has misled this nation into war, accepted the establishment of a fascist government and will undermine the next elections to support the corporatist government that their masters desire. Matlin should have been treated with derision and her nose rubbed into each misstatement. Instead, we see that the media will offer scant opposition to the deception and lies of the elitist Republicans.

  24. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

Why do they bother asking Mary Matalin or James Carville what they think? Neither of them has a clue what the average American thinks. And frankly, they are both miscreants.

One thing is for sure — they are both riding losing nags in the horse race. Of course, Carville is used to that. He rides a losing nag every time he mounts his wife.

America just loves its arrogant megalomaniacal bloodthirsty demagogues. Of course the polls say differently, but the proof is found where the money and power are concentrated, and the public can complain all it wants, but it is the public that has allowed this to happen.

if you havent realized that the news media doesnt give a flying fart about “what the average American thinks”, you havent been paying attention.

Pumpkinhead *knows* that Cheney *OWNS* us, & so all that matters is what his spokeshag has to say.

  31. Jackie Says:

Connie Rice signed the torture policy and knew of the attack before 9/11. We have proof that Connie Rice will be charged with War Crimes and she allowed thief and rapes of American woman. Now what would that look like a VP sworn in then the UN charges the VP with War Crimes. I guess Americans do support the lies and corruption of the Bush Team.

As for Dick well he hasn’t worked for the American people for 7 years and really could care less what anyone says. If that’s what Americans accept of the US Vice President then Dick is the leader. Our current President doesn’t know what happening in the US nor is he told what bills he is to sign.

  32. pluege Says:

Matlin is seriously demented - has been for a very, very long time. She ought to be under the care of a professional psychiatrist.

Kinda Sleazy brought nothing before “The Brilliant Man”

    Huh?

Matalin and Carville represent the permanent ruling party that brings you the illusion of a two party system.

    Take off the blinders.

  42. BloggerRadio.com Says:

I watched that whole episode this morning. I hated every second but, it was like trying not to look while passing a car wreck. Besides, it was all-infomercials-all-the-time elsewhere, and it was too early for Tiger’s tee time.

That show was like a walk down the midway at a carnival or watching a freak-show at the circus.

I also learned something new from visiting and reading here … PLEASE say it ain’t so … Carville & Matalin are married??? C’mon, you’re joking, right? If that is factual, at least tell me no children were harmed in the making of that horror movie, wowzers! So, it’s really true that there is someone out there for each of us after all.

Matalin & Carville married and former employees of Cheney & Clinton (& Monica) talk about a bad gene-pool from all the in-breeding! Nasty, just nasty.

Yeah, and ya just gotta love when these pundits and politicos even TRY to TELL ‘WE-THE-PEOPLE‘ what we’re thinking and feeling, or HOW we’re supposed to think / feel … especially that collection of mutants!

  43. Bilbo Hussein Baggins Says:

For the life of me I can’t understand what Carville sees in this B!tch. But, then, Carville isn’t much of a catch either. Maybe they deserve each other.

  44. fossilhippie Says:

It’s pretty obvious that Matalin’s flying monkey Carville, is working for the Repugnicans to poison the election well for the Dems for this year so Hillary gets another shot in ‘12.

Matalin and Carville represent the permanent ruling party that brings you the illusion of a two party system.

You have reminded me of a quote from Kurt Vonnegut, though I paraphrase:

“America has two parties, the powerful and the powerless. The powerful are split into two factions, the Democrats and the Republicans.”

  47. cerberus Says:

Yes, Mary, drink a little more tainted Kool-Aid! Yes, Cheney has changed the OVP in very profound ways - none of which have been democratic, legal, OR desired by those who pay his salary - the People of this country. He goes down in history along with his puppet as being two of the most vilified, evil government officials EVER in the history of the US.

  48. cerberus Says:

Matalin & Carville have been America’s #1 “sideshow” (replete with the freak moniker) for a long time. No one’s sorry to see them leave Washington. As the saying goes….don’t let the door….baldie & LadyGoth Vadar!

  49. cerberus Says:

Carville’s been a “double agent” for a long time. The people caught onto his little gig years ago which is why the ratings on the show drop every time he’s on a panel.

  50. nochickenhawk Says:

He is so brilliant that he was called incompetent as Ford’s chief of staff. Oh well, suppose it is all relative when you are surrounded by people like the Village Idiot in Chief, someone who doesn’t know Tibet from Nepal, another one who doesn’t know the Bay of Pigs from the Cuban Missile Crisis….. You too can appear to be brilliant around these dummkopfs. It also helps to have a whole lot of money (however questionably obtained). That way you can push people around without suffering any consequences and they gladly prostrate themselves and start calling you “brilliant”.

  51. abarts Says:

Its April 1945, we are in Berlin near a bunker. the country is going under and the fools like Matalin still offer support for the crazed neo-cons within that bunker.

  54. MCMetal Says:

Mary Joe Matalin (born August 19, 1953) is an American political strategist and consultant. She is known for her work with the Republican Party. She was an assistant to President George W. Bush and counselor to Vice President Dick Cheney until 2003.

What a shock ; an empty-headed shill for Chimpy and Dickhead , who used to work for them ……………..Why are these lying , useless vermin even allowed to speak ?

  55. MCMetal Says:

When Russert noted that the selection of Rice would signify a “third Bush term,” Matalin responded, “People are sick of this Bush-bashing stuff.”

  57. KayInMaine Says:

Mary Matalin is always using her Cheney-shaped dildo. This is why she never smiles….she’s beyond daily Cheney-orgasms from her Cheney-dildo and has now lulled herself in Cheney-ecstasy. See? She’s a good Brownshirt.

  58. sacopenapa Says:

In fact, if I were to subject myself to such weekly punishment, I would have to start drinking heavily to numb the stupidity as soon as my feet hit the floor on Sunday morning. By noon I would be passed out. Not a good thing.

  64. Keith H. Says:

  70. Ditch Mitch KY Says:

Based on Mary’s marriage to James Carville, her comments on men should be ignored. She thinks Dick is a “great man.” Oh, yeah.

  71. Keith Says:

“You know, people don’t know about Dr. Rice is that she weighed in on every domestic issue before the President.”

But since the American people disagree with every domestic decision made by this administration—that is not a good thing.

Do you really think the racist and sexist Republican voters are going to put a black woman one McCain heart beat away from the presidency? NOT!

  72. republicanSScareme Says:

I never cease to be amazed at the pathetic stupidity of these right-wing s***bags. They say whatever they feel like, no matter how ludicrous it is. There’s a real psychotic element to their personalities.

Pray that we all survive these nut-jobs.

  73. Freedom Rebel Says:

You know, people don’t know about Dr. Rice is that she weighed in on every domestic issue before the President.

My interpretation: The President never had an original thought. Mary we already knew that one.

It was impossible to watch her without thinking of Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty. And then there was her manner, which was so incredibly nasty.

That is the way Arianna Huffington describes Mary on a previous occasion, while defending Dick. I couldn’t agree more, another comment was Dick needs to invite her to his bunker and hide her there, Priceless.

  74. Uncle Ho Says:
