Lieberman: It’s ‘a good question’ to ask if Obama is ‘a Marxist.’»

obamalieberman.jpgIn his New York Times column today, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol claimed that Sen. Barack Obama’s (D-IL) now-infamous “bitter” remarks sound like Karl Marx’s “famous statement about religion.” On the Brian and the Judge radio show today, Fox News’ senior judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano asked Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) if Obama is “a Marxist as Bill Kristol says might be the case?”

“I must say that’s a good question,” replied Lieberman, before stepping back to say that he would “hesitate to say he’s a Marxist”:

NAPOLITANO: Hey Sen. Lieberman, you know Barack Obama, is he a Marxist as Bill Kristol says might be the case in today’s New York Times? Is he an elitist like your colleague Hillary Clinton says he is?

LIEBERMAN: Well, you know, I must say that’s a good question. I know him now for a little more than three years since he came into the Senate and he’s obviously very smart and he’s a good guy. I will tell ya that during this campaign, I’ve learned some things about him, about the kind of environment from which he came ideologically. And I wouldn’t…I’d hesitate to say he’s a Marxist, but he’s got some positions that are far to the left of me and I think mainstream America.

    Please support the:

“Responsible Plan to End the War in Iraq” — a comprehensive strategy endorsed by 50 congressional candidates, two generals, a former Assistant Secretary of Defense, and netroots activists across the progressive blogosphere (led by our friends at Open Left). And, as the plan gains momentum, it is provoking a predictable reaction from the right-wing, pro-war crowd and their sympathetic stenographers in the traditional media.

Give this crap a rest! They’re so hot to smear Obama that they’re getting desperate.

I’d like to see the actual numbers of registered Repukes in the state of Penna. who changed their party affiliation to Democrat JUST to vote for Hillary since there’s no race there for them at this point. They’re salivating for Hillary to become the “candidate” because they know she’s not electable. She’s got more skeletons in her closet than your nearest graveyard and they know that she will go down before the contest even gets heated against McBush due to her lying about “sniper fire” and her own dirty deeds.

Of course, this group of sick Reptards in Penna. will stop at nothing to not lose control of the White House - even hold their nose and vote for Hillary JUST TO ATTEMPT TO THWART OBAMA.

CAN SOMEONE AT TP GET US THE NUMBERS FROM THE PA. STATE SUP. OF ELECTIONS ON THE NUMBERS OF REPUBLICANS WHO HAVE CHANGED THEIR PARTY AFFILIATION FOR THIS PRIMARY?

  37. 2MillionLightYearsToAndromeda Says:

Obama rallies state Democrats, throws support behind Lieberman
    from March 2006

HARTFORD, Conn. –U.S. Sen. Barack Obama rallied Connecticut Democrats at their annual dinner Thursday night, throwing his support behind mentor and Senate colleague Joe Lieberman

…”The fact of the matter is, I know some in the party have differences with Joe. I’m going to go ahead and say it,” Obama told the 1,700-plus party members who gathered in a ballroom at the Connecticut Convention Center for the $175-per-head fundraiser.

“I am absolutely certain Connecticut is going to have the good sense to send Joe Lieberman back to the U.S. Senate so he can continue to serve on our behalf,” he said.

…Lieberman became Obama’s mentor when Obama was sworn into the Senate in 2005. They stayed close at Thursday night’s event, too, entering the room together and working the crowd in tandem.

    2million,

That was before Lamont’s campaign got going. When it came down to it, Obama supported Lamont: http://www.washingtonpost.com/ wp-dyn/ content/ article/ 2006/ 10/ 26/ AR2006102601187.html

HARTFORD, Conn. — Democratic Sen. Barack Obama, a vocal defender of Sen. Joe Lieberman earlier this year, is urging Connecticut voters to rally behind his rival, Ned Lamont.

The Illinois senator and potential 2008 presidential candidate sent an e-mail message Thursday praising Lamont.

“Ned Lamont has waged an impressive grass-roots campaign to give the people of Connecticut a choice in the November Senate election,” Obama wrote. “Please join me in supporting Ned Lamont with your hard work on-the-ground in these closing weeks of the campaign.”

The Lamont campaign said Obama’s e-mail went to about 5,000 Connecticut residents.

That’s not saying much. Mainstream America IS far to the left of Joe Lieberman.

Lieberman has gone so far to the right that he could not get reelected as a Democrat in Connecticut.

He’s this year’s Zel Miller: an ex-Democrat with no honor, integrity or credibility, who sold his soul in a vain attempt to extend his 15 minutes of fame.

  42. 2MillionLightYearsToAndromeda Says:

    #38 DB…

I appreciate you bringing the information in the WaPo article to my attention.

I’d have to investigate more fully to understand exactly what happened. I notice the article was from Oct., 2006. Weeks before the election.

I wonder if Obama was simply covering all bases? Did he ever officially say that he’s throwing his support to Lamont? The article is not clear on this point.

  43. lthuedk Says:

Lieberman represents the Likud socialists, and as such he is derivative of Marx, Lenin, and Strauss-all totalitarians.

Their tactic is to characterize anyone who disagrees with their extremism exactly what they themselves are. That’s standard operating procedure from Pravda to Fox.

Lieberman is out of touch with most Israelis, who want peace and a two-state Palestinian solution, and vigorously oppose the Final Solution common to totalitarians. The Likud is the violent, preemptive faction that has shown itself to be one of the Earth’s most extreme ideologies today.

Kristol, a leading Neo Con socialist who has done nothing but attack our Republic, is only acting out his Marxist-Straussian programming.

The Taliban was never armed by Reagan. That’s a lie. The Taliban wasn’t around till 93/94. Bill Clinton initiallty supported the Taliban’s rise. As for Al-Qaeda that was the ISI from Pakisatn. The CIA backed what would become the Northern Alliance.

    April 14th, 2008 at 7:31 pm

    Yeah

From the same jackass who claimed the Shah of Iran “stepped down” ; guess you call it that when you’re OVERTHROWN during a revolution…….

Though there is no evidence that the CIA directly supported the Taliban or Al Qaeda, some basis for military support of the Taliban was provided when, in the early 1980s, the CIA and the ISI (Pakistan’s Interservices Intelligence Agency) provided arms to Afghans resisting the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, and the ISI assisted the process of gathering radical Muslims from around the world to fight against the Soviets. Osama Bin Laden was one of the key players in organizing training camps for the foreign Muslim volunteers. The U.S. poured funds and arms into Afghanistan and “by 1987 65,000 tons of U.S.-made weapons and ammunition a year were entering the war”.

    1994 , eh chuckles ?

What the hell are you talking about ?

HE WAS OVERTHROWN , YOU CLOWN.

Various controversial policies were enacted, including the banning of the Tudeh Party and the oppression of dissent by Iran’s intelligence agency, SAVAK; Amnesty International reported that Iran had as many as 2,200 political prisoners in 1978. By 1979, the political unrest had transformed into a revolution which, on January 16, forced the Shah to leave Iran after 37 years of rule. Soon thereafter, the revolutionary forces transformed the government into an Islamic republic.

The above sure doesn’t say anything about Carter nor of the Shah “resigning”…….

I read up on all this controversy about what Obama said about people being better and I was shocked what I found. Apparently someone named Mayhill Fowler, who writes for Huffington Post (that surprised me). She brought a mp3 recorder into the “no press allowed” private fundraiser and that’s where this whole thing started. It turns out that this woman’s husband has given $25,000 to Clinton while Ms. Fowler is claiming to be an Obama supporter (even after her hit job). Then there is the timing. She had that tape recording for a week, but didn’t write her column until Friday, right in the middle of all the publicity about Bill’s shady dealings in his tax returns and the resurgence of the Bosnia flat. And, amazingly enough, Hillary showed up with “I’m not bitter” bumper stickers the very next day. How convenient.

How this site can support a woman who is doing her best to split the Democratic party and to possibly give the election to John McCain is beyond me. Sometimes it makes me so mad I want to just walk away from TP and never come back.

Groups of taliban (”religious students”) were loosely organized on a regional basis during the occupation and civil war. Although they represented a potentially huge force, they didn’t emerge as a united entity until the taliban of Kandahar made their move in 1994. In late 1994, a group of well-trained taliban were chosen by Pakistan to protect a convoy trying to open a trade route from Pakistan to Central Asia. They proved an able force, fighting off rival mujahideen and warlords. The taliban then went on to take the city of Kandahar, beginning a surprising advance that ended with their capture of Kabul in September 1996.

    1. Obama advocated the communal ownership of land and the forced confiscation of privately controlled land, as part of a forced “development plan”, an important element of his attack on the government’s advocacy of private ownership, land titles, and property registration. (p. 29)

    2. Obama advocated the nationalization of “European” and “Asian” owned enterprises, including hotels, with the control of these operations handed over to the “indigenous” black population. (pp. 32 -33)

    3. Obama advocated dramatically increasing taxation on “the rich” even up to the 100% level, arguing that, “there is no limit to taxation if the benefits derived from public services by society measure up to the cost in taxation which they have to pay” (p. 30) and that, “Theoretically, there is nothing that can stop the government from taxing 100% of income so long as the people get benefits from the government commensurate with their income which is taxed.” (p. 31)

    4. Obama contrasts the ill-defined and weak-tea notion of “African Socialism” negatively with the well-defined ideology of “scientific socialism”, i.e. communism. Obama views “African Socialism” pioneers like Nkrumah, Nyerere, and Toure as having diverted only “a little” from the capitalist system. (p. 26)

    5. Obama advocates an “active” rather than a “passive” program to achieve a classless society through the removal of economic disparities between black Africans and Asian and Europeans. (p. 28) “While we welcome the idea of a prevention [of class problems], we should try to cure what has slipped in .. we .. need to eliminate power structures that have been built through excessive accumulation so that not only a few individuals shall control a vast magnitude of resources as is the case now .. so long as we maintain free enterprise one cannot deny that some will accumulate more than others .. ” (pp. 29-30)

    6. Obama advocates price controls on hotels and the tourist industry, so that the middle class and not only the rich can afford to come to Kenya as tourists. (p. 33)

    7. Obama advocates government owned and operated “model farms” as a means of teaching modern farming techniques to farmers. (p. 33)

    8. Obama strongly supports the governments assertion of a “non-aligned” status in the contest between Western nations and communist nations aligned with the Soviet Union and China. (p. 26)”

Here are some other problems Obama has with his family:

“Soetoro-Ng describes her mother as being an agnostic, who gave the kids “all the good books,” and mentions the Bible, and Hindu and Buddhist scripture. Solomon jumps on that, wondering why she didn’t mention the Koran, since Indonesia is the most populous Muslim nation. Soetoro-Ng replies, “I should have mentioned the Koran. Mom didn’t really emphasize the Koran, but we read little parts of it. We did listen to morning prayers in Indonesia.”

“Barack Obama’s cousin Raila Odinga is charged with ethnic cleansing by Kenyan officials.

Barack Obama’s cousin and Kenyan Opposition Leader Raila Odinga (BBC)
    The BBC reported:

President Mwai Kibaki was declared the winner of the 27 December poll, but the results were rejected by the opposition and called into question by international observers.

More than 600 people have died in unrest since, and another quarter of a million have been driven from their homes.

In an interview last week with the BBC’s HARDtalk programme, Ms Karua said the government had suspected that Mr Raila Odinga’s ODM party was “planning mayhem if they lost”.

But she said they had not expected “the magnitude [of the violence] and for it to be ethnic cleansing”.

I like Obama but he has no chance of being elected with all this baggage, even if it is just used in an exaggerated way to swiftboat him. Fox news will have this on 24 hours a day and there is enough of it to keep on continuously through the election. They have enough to describe him, rightly or wrongly, as a former Muslim, a Marxist (from his father’s influence), hating white people (from his book), pretending to not be angry at whites (from his book), hating the white blood in his veins (from his book), having a cousin who is a mass murderer, a sister who is a devout Muslim, an elitist, prefers orange juice to coffee (they will find a way to spin even this), etc.

A lot of this is no doubt unfair, but this is far more than what beat Kerry and Gore. The only reason they haven’t swiftboated him already is they are waiting for Hillary to have no chance to getting the nomination either.

Unless the Obama supporters wake up to what is coming McCain has this in the bag.

When someone suggests that a need for religion is driven by the failure of the state, it sure sounds like at least a hint of Marxism, no? ….

Pfui. When someone says that a need for religion is driven by the failure of the state, someone is pandering to magical thinking for political purposes.

As was ever thus. It’s just that in modern politics, aside from fundy theocrats, magical thinking is a non-factor.

Modern politicians, aside from the Huckabee-Robertson-Mullah dingdongs, recognize that Divine Right won’t wash. In Western Democra
