Just a thought.
The importance of this election cannot be overstated IMO.
The country is and has been slowly trending Republican in the last few presidential elections.
The Independent voter is the swing vote. They vote for things like gut feelings integrity and strength. They are definately turned off by partisan politics.
McCain is well situated in having the public and press believing he too is independent and with President Bush's #s so low,a candidate who will stand up to Bush. ie not creating a "third Bush Term" no matter how much the left screams it.
Republicans and Democrats have stayed roughly the same over the last few election cycles even during the Republican Revolution, and the current Democratic retaking of the House. Those numbers are between 34 + 40% It is the independents that determine the election. The more independent McCain looks and is for that matter the better. The more partisan the less chance he has IMO. Libs are Libs and conservatives are conservatives few will change. The Independents vote for the man not the party and McCain with the independent tag and war record + experiance stands in good stead.

aqua21885 Says:
The problem is, will anyone really listen to this very critical fact? Or has McCain already got the media and a large portion of the general public so tightly wrapped around his little finger that it won’t make any difference?

Just wait until the Democratic party starts running advertisements introducing the public to the real John McCain. There's not a lot the media or the Republican party can do to stop that. I just hope they start soon because the longer they wait the more entrenched the skewed view of McCain will be.

The Capitol Dome Says:
Neither Clinton nor Obama support the legalization of same-sex marriage. Rather than show leadership in this area of civil rights, they follow popular opinion because they know they can only lose on the issue (sadly). Whoever’s elected– be it Clinton, Obama, or McCain– there still won’t be equal protection of marriage laws.

You don't know this for sure. Obama and Clinton are having to moderate their views to keep from offending a very large part of the population who, for some strange reason, don't vote in their own best interests, instead voting for gays, abortion and guns. Once Obama takes office, I'm fairly sure we are going to see his opinions become a lot more liberal on a lot of subjects. I hate it that he can't tell the world his true positions for fear of being rejected. Take the health care industry and his plan. He has frequently said if he could start over, he would go for a single-payer, nationalized health care plan. I think he recognizes that most people would find going straight to that would be too great a leap. So, I believe he is going to work in that direction rather than taking the giant leap all at once. But who knows, maybe by that time the American corporations will be clamoring for single payer health because they are going broke trying to keep up with employee health insurance payments.

Why is it that they are just noticing these things? We've been noticing them for a long time now. Boy, the press sure is slow to catch up, or....they are intentionally not reporting on how conservative McCain is because they know that's going to hurt him with the American people.

Frank White Says:
Actually on the Gun Issue I agree with McCain. We need guns to prevent tyranny. Many Progressives are Pro-Gun.

Although I agree that guns are not the problem and that the murder rate by guns in America is the highest in the world is more a reflection of our society than the result of gun ownership, I still see no reason for everyone to feel free to carry a handgun everywhere they go or the need for individuals to have fully automatic assult weapons in their homes.

Fully automatic Thompson Sub-machine guns have been illegal since the 30's

There has to be some sense applied to this problem. Everyone cannot be allowed to own anything they want just to justify defense against tyranny. Besides why don't you vote the tyrants out.

The sad part about this is that it is actually news. Our news media are distorting the Republican candidate's views - AGAIN - to make him seem less conservative than he actually is.

Remember 2000 and how Bush was a "Compassionate Conservative" who supported global warming action? They're doing it all over again!

Of course, the current Corporate-Controlled Media will try to portray McBush as a "regular" guy. Just like they did with Bush. An image was carefully concocted back in 1999/2000. Bush was portrayed in the media as a "brush cutting" regular kind of guy. Nothing could have been further from the truth. He is a blueblood from Connecticut.

McBomb had a barbeque recently for the Press. Not only is McLame feeding the press hotdogs but a lot of baloney on who he really is. The Complicit Media has to stop giving McSenile a free pass and start asking the tough questions, not just do you want hot mustard with that.

I hope the public can see through the smoke and mirrors this time. Otherwise, we get what we deserve.

An image was carefully concocted back in 1999/2000. Bush was portrayed in the media as a “brush cutting” regular kind of guy.

Otherwise, we get what we deserve.

aqua21885 Says:
The problem is, will anyone really listen to this very critical fact? Or has McCain already got the media and a large portion of the general public so tightly wrapped around his little finger that it won’t make any difference?

That is exactly why blogs like this are so important. The facts to counter the lies told by the main stream medial can be found here with supporting information.

The truth is the true enemy of the right and we have it on our side.

We just have to make sure that everyone we hear supporting the right wing policies get hammered with the true facts of what they are saying. Otherwise the ditto heads get to re-write the facts.....something they must do to win.

No surprise in the content, we all knew he is a warmonger reactionary. But MSM actually pointing this out? WTF. Something is terribly wrong.

Let's not forget, if memory serves, that McCain voted, along with Bob Dole against giving away the digital broadcast spectrum for free. But how on earth could he stomach his party after the "illegitimate black child"push poll they used against him?!

I read this article on another newspage and came away with the feeling that it was pro-conservative propaganda for McCain. This article allows the fence-sitting cons out there to feel good about supporting him. The gist ties in nicely with the theme of McCain Reagan, McCain Bush, McCain America...

That which makes Conservatives have an issue with McCain isn't his conservative record, but his stance on Immigration, Campaign Finance, and his thumbing his nose at the GOP on various occasions.
