Heartland VP: ‘Yankee taxes’ on global warming will lead to ‘another Civil War.’
Last Friday, Alexandra Liddy Bourne, Vice President for Policy and Strategy at the global warming denier group Heartland Institute, spoke to the Heritage Foundation. She warned that state-led climate legislation unfairly burdened the South and would lead to “another Civil War here in a short period of time”:
So yet again, the South has to pay on its back the cost of using coal in this country to the northern states. We’re going to have another Civil War here in a short period of time, because the cost is going to go up. So the Southeast has not bought into this because they understand that they’re going to have to pay a very high price. Maryland has decided to sort of stay out of it because they have coal, as is Pennsylvania. They don’t necessarily want to pay Yankee taxes, right?

I am in favor of using up all of the worlds oil supply as fast as possible. I have no problem paying 6 to 8 dollars for gas. Then there will be a world depression and we will start over from there.
We, as a country got along without oil for over one hundred years. When Diesel (who designed the engine) he used peanut oil which did just fine. We need to get back to basics.
I am not sure whether global warming is a natural cycle or caused by pollution but it is warming and soon all of the major port cities in the world will be under about 40 feet of sea water. That will cause a world depression anyway.
Believe it or not. We are doomed and will have to start over.

National Geographic did a piece on the West Antartic Ice shelf which is resting on a slope and is rapidly sliding toward the ocean. The scientist said that when it slips into the ocean in a few years, probably less than 20, the seas around the world will rise approximately 20 ft.
The scientists have GPS location receivers on the largest glacier tracking the speed it moves. It is accelerating every day. When it slips into the ocean it will cause seas to rise around 20 ft. also.

What do you think is causing the oceans to rise in the last 10 years? Melting glaciers from small to large all over the world. The rushing water under the glacier in Greenland can be seen as a torrent. This was unknown to happen before and is increasing yearly. Under the West Antarctic ice shelf, which is accessable thru a shaft bored down to the dirt a steady increase of water flowing under the ice is causing a greasing effect. As soon as it is slippery the whole shelf will slip into the ocean. I hope this will clarify everything.

Right now, the South (courtesy of all the offshore Gulf of Mexico oil rigs) that's producing a good chunk of US oil and natural gas. I'm also a bit confused since most "climate legislation" tends to focus on renewable energy resources.
"Pennsylvania"? Huh? When did Pennsylvania get transferred to being a part of the South? Or is this woman somehow suggesting that Pennsylvania won't supply coal to Southern states? (The Maryland thing completely eludes me since that state's coal reserves are pretty negligible.)
Does this woman not realize that ENERGY RESOURCES had very little to do with the Civil War? Petroleum had been discovered in the United States just a few years before the Civil War and certainly didn't make that much of an impact on the war's overall outcome. People relied much more heavily on (get ready for it) RENEWABLE ENERGY RESOURCES, such as hydro power (both from rivers and steam power) and wind power as well as human and animal labor (note that the human labor does NOT simply mean "slavery").
No, instead of focusing on this woman's outrageously bizarre "comments", far too many people have turned this thread into a "bash the South" forum. But, that's soooo much easier to do. (Note folks, the reference to the South is purely a work of fiction from what passes for her brain but it didn't stop a group of "progressives" from thinking that "the South" was supporting her.)

Pathogens do not concern me. I have probably breathed more lead paint dust and asbestos (thanks to the US Navy) than the average american. Played with mercury too as a child. I have been very lucky I am not dead yet. Concerning pathogens in the air there are very few places in this country that are dangerous. Those places are usually around refinerys, coal fired plants and they are usuall populated by minorities.
