Despite his claim that he is “a consistent supporter of educational benefits for the men and women of the military,” Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) indicated yesterday that he will not support the bipartisan 21st Century GI Bill, stating that he is working on his own proposal. McCain has been largely absent on the issue, even though Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA) — the bill’s chief sponsor — had been urging McCain “to get on the bill.” Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America has now taken out a full-page ad in a South Carolina newspaper pressuring Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) to support the legislation.

Another troop hating reich-winger….no big surprise.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:28 amI was for the military… until I was against it
April 15th, 2008 at 11:28 amSome call it metamporphosis.
Some call it changing one’s mind.
I call it FLIP FLOPPING!
McWarmonger, for a man your age, you do a back-flip quite well.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:29 amAnother AWOL coward Bush-sukcing TRAITOR to the USA.
That’s “Bomb Bomb Iran” McSAME!!
April 15th, 2008 at 11:30 amCan someone explain to me why he does not support this bill? This man is a lunatic!
April 15th, 2008 at 11:31 amLike Bush, McCain hopes folks will believe only the words he says and not the facts. Unfortunately, it’s worked pretty well so far.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:32 amIt’s painfully obvious that torture is not a good thing. Better had he just been KIA.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:33 amMemo to Clinton and Obama campaigns.
Here is something you should run, er sprint with. Instead of sniping at each other…
April 15th, 2008 at 11:34 amOT:
In the last year, wheat (think flour) has risen by 130%, rice by 74%, soya by 87%, and corn by 31%, while there are now only eight to 12 weeks of cereal stocks left globally.
My point?
McWarmonger says it’s ‘all in our heads’.
The NYT ran a story this morning about the plethora of retail outlets going under as a result of consumers forced to decide if gas, groceries or other staples come before clothes, sundries, etc.
Guess what? They do.
We cannot fix America’s economic issues until we end this damn war! McWarmonger, we don’t have a 100 years. In fact, we don’t have 2 years.
Out of Iraq.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:35 amOut with McCain & Bush.
On with America!

He’s a Republican ; end of story.
That whole “support the troops” nonsense is simply another slogan like their “party of personal responsibility” and “family values” bogus platforms………….
April 15th, 2008 at 11:36 amLet me guess what HIS version will look like…
You get one credit for college for each year you spend in combat.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:36 amHow many ways can John McFlipFlop shoot himself in the foot?
April 15th, 2008 at 11:36 amAt this point, he doesn’t have a stable, authentic “leg to stand on”….not to mention what he’s come to be known to “stand for”…..torture, violation of the laws of this country, pro-violation of Common Article 3, Geneva Conventions on Torture, flagrant abuse by lobbyists, trysts with galpal whom he took on his private jet….what was her name? She disappeared from the radar quite conveniently, didn’t she? Maybe her “sudden exile” needs to be thoroughly investigated soon? Swiftboat #345 for JohnMcCrazyInsane.
And, worst of all, I forgot the one which impacts all of us and which is a flagrant violation of the laws of this country - illegal wiretapping of american citizens.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:37 amUnfortunately, Johnny McSameBombIran uses the same empty buzzwords like “support the troops” as though screwing them all is somehow “supporting them”.
When Bush leaves office, the OrwellianNeoCon JibberJabber will be gone with them and we will be left wondering how we permitted this group of neonazis ever to confuse us to such an extent.
They’ve stolen the English language and the moraes we’ve come to regard highly as our own and changed all accepted definitions in the process.
The one thing they haven’t changed, however, is the american’s ability to discern good from evil. This gang of thugs is the epitome of everything evil, wrong, and dastardly.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:40 amYears from now we will be shaking our heads in sheer disbelief when we come to know the full extent of the Bush chicanery and the evil deeds they’re purpetrated on this democracy.

I guess the Kook-Aid Locksteppers have their “third string” out these days….guess everyone’s feeling the financial crunch?
April 15th, 2008 at 11:43 amIn 1967, I was sent to Vietnam, I never once asked or received a single benefit from our Government. Until just recently, I never told a soul that I was in the service. How McCain could turn his back on returning veterans is beyond Me.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:45 amWhat’s incredibly frightening is to really observe Johnny BeBad in his “act” on the stump….yikes…..jebesus….he reminds me of the old geysers you see sitting around at nursing homes…with that “out to luch” vacant look in their eyes and their minds rambling all over the place.
Without McSame’s super teleprompter, he couldn’t find his way out of a paper bag with one way signs on it.
Yikes! Crazy lunatic on the stump!
Wonder if the group that did this first ad will focus on his physical health in their next one. You know the scene where his cancer doc tells him that his advanced invasive melanoma won’t net him 4 years in the white house?????
April 15th, 2008 at 11:46 amwell no shlt… he is a republican, unless he can use them for political advantage, then fu*k the troops… they mean nothing to republicans, other than political tools.
Fu*k u mcBUSH
April 15th, 2008 at 11:47 amMcCrazy’s bill will have a provision that in order to get the education benefits they will need to sign up for 100 years of war service and vote republican forever, which is that same as supporting 100 years of war.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:48 amWhat’s even more telling is that BeBad hasn’t done as promised which was to “out” the details of his cancer and it’s progress. There’s no cure for invasive melanoma of the type McCrazy has. Maybe it’s already metastisized to his brain which accounts for his loss of ability to focus and complete a logical thought without being prompted totally?
He was supposed to reveal this info to the people weeks ago and has not. One has to wonder if he even has 4 years left at this point? I think not. Their silence on this issue is speaking volumes. The fact is that he will not be around to fulfill the terms of a 4 year office.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:48 amI wonder how Johnny likes being treated for cancer by the VA?
April 15th, 2008 at 11:49 amThe Neo-cons have captured Grampa McCain and are torturing him until he says these hideous unpatriotic things.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:49 amAnd if McSame is not able to fulfill his term of office, the job falls to his veep. This makes his selection for Veep even more critical to our future.

Won’t happen. McSAME has NOTHING to run on except for WAR, and embraces AWOL cowards like TRAITOR Bush.
HAPPY!
“I guess YOUR right Doc”.
Typical PITIFUL moron who votes for troglodyte candidates like Bush and McSAME.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:51 amFirst the troops are used by the GOP as cannon fodder in an illegal, immoral war of choice and now Mccain wants to use them as political fodder. Shame on shame.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:52 amLumpy phony. McAin’t.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:52 amQ. Why does a vet hate the troops?
A. He’s a NVA ace(he downed 5 US aircraft).

_____________________________________________
The reason for not supporting the bill is McCain thinks (as do other warmongers) that soldiers will be less likely to re-up if they have something to go home to — like getting a college education.
Because forces are stretched to the breaking point, the logic here is to keep people from leaving as much as possible. If all a soldier has to return to is unemployment and a bad economy, they are more likely to stay in.
Which is a pity. This new G.I. Bill would increase recruitment, allowing our military to replace worn tired soldiers with fresh new ones. We could even wind up with a better army than we have now. Furthermore, adding education to the skills and competence our soldiers have acquired during their service will only improve our workforce overall — much like the G.I. Bill did for our soldiers after WWII.
April 15th, 2008 at 12:13 pm.
Why should McTORTURE suuport the New GI bill… He’s already use his.
.
April 15th, 2008 at 12:16 pmTroops should only be used as backdrops for political speeches.
April 15th, 2008 at 12:16 pm“Support the troops” = “Clean Skies Initiative” = “Healthy Forest” leglislation = “Protect America Act” = More rethuglican lies.
Shoeless, exactly… also see Buckie at #24…
April 15th, 2008 at 12:20 pmMcClumsy doesn’t need a GI bill, he’s bucking for a draft for his many, many more wars.
April 15th, 2008 at 12:21 pmis it just me, or have the flags and ratings disappeared for all?
April 15th, 2008 at 12:25 pmNo flags for now. TP posted yesterday that they are working on the problem.
April 15th, 2008 at 12:27 pmSen. John McCain he will not support the bipartisan 21st Century GI Bill, stating that he is working on his own proposal.
That is a scary thought. He has had a year to decide about this bill and now he is not going to support it. So that means it will take him at least two years to come up with his own bill!! Nice to know that he has our troops best interest in mind at all times.. I didn’t think it was possible to be more lame than he already is..
His whole Biography Tour around the US is about his Military Career and the Military. What it did for him and how it helped him. There is no moral argument he can give to justify his decision. The White House released a statement about the GI Bill “We can’t make things to good for our soldiers or vets”. Keith Olbermann was horrified that they even said it.
They call themselves Patroitic; it’s a crime for them to even say that word. They don’t want to pass the GI Bill because these soldiers would come home and go to school. Instead they want them to keep reenlisting until they are dead. Because under the McCain regime we will go to war with Iran. If this doesn’t wake up the McCain voters I don’t know what will. McCain is a traitor to all the soldiers and vets.
April 15th, 2008 at 12:50 pmHow does McSame stand upright without a spine?
April 15th, 2008 at 12:54 pmDespite his claim that he is “a consistent supporter of educational benefits for the men and women of the military,” in reality, he isn’t.
If veterans received a nickel every time St. John McSame flip-flopped on an issue, then they wouldn’t need this bill: they’d all be independently wealthy and could afford to pay for higher education our of their own pockets.
April 15th, 2008 at 12:58 pmI’m writing letters to every chapter of the VFW and American Legion in Washington State, asking them to inform their membership of this stance by McCain. You want to see a shitload of geezers get riled up? Watch out McShame.
April 15th, 2008 at 1:02 pmOf course he won’t - he’s a shiftless Righty, who will do whatever his Defense Industry Lobbyist taskmasters tell him to do, and they don’t want to share “their” money with any soldiers.
April 15th, 2008 at 1:05 pmMcCain believes it is more important to get credit for supporting the troops than it is to actually support the troops.
April 15th, 2008 at 1:08 pmLet’s not forget Webb’s (Macaca jr.) cowardly behavior. McCain is an insane old kook, but Webb is a liar par excellence. Voted for the FISA screwing, voted with Lieberman for the MoveOn resolution, voted against Feingold’s redeployment bill and voted to give the telecoms immunity. Webb is a full of pus DINO.
Webb’s bill just gives benefits to the people who manage to survive Webb’s own cave-in votes for funding bush’s war. Webb never met a war funding bill he didn’t like.
April 15th, 2008 at 1:14 pmDidn’t McCain recently say that we’d never need a draft because as long as we can keep an oppressed population, there will aways be volunteers that will want the opportunity rise above that by joining? So, McCain was for military incentives before he was against them?
April 15th, 2008 at 1:33 pmJohn McCain is a creature of myth. There are many facts about him that the majority of the American people know nothing about, and do date, mainstream media has not sought in anyway to refresh people’s memories. Here is one example of McCain’s “support of the troops” behavior.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFM1xqqTX_g
April 15th, 2008 at 2:04 pmMcCain won’t support it because he needs to have a signature issue of his own, hence he’s working on his own version of a bill. That’s right, McRighty - re-invent the wheel on this one, call it a bright new shiny object, and the legislators will all fall over themselves to sign it. Egomaniac is what Old Stumpy is.
April 15th, 2008 at 3:08 pmAs a veteran who put himself through college on the GI bill, all I can say is
Fu*k you, Johnny!
April 15th, 2008 at 3:16 pmwhere is Fox News Now? Where is the support for the troops? Just like there are no vetrians under bridges in this country the lies put forward by the greedest BASTARDS in this country. How dare this ex soldier deny any soldier a way to a better life after serving the nation.
get the full picture http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com you will see why the government does what it does. We need a change before its to late. I have never seen such a country so rich deny it’s citizens a better life after serving the country.
April 15th, 2008 at 4:02 pmwhile i think the “machine” vs “the people” match up between McSame and Obama will be a toss up, taking all the factors in account, in any case, im getting a huge kick out of watching McSame trying to appeal to the right wing nutjobs who will turn on him like rabid dogs if he dares have anything to do with any thing, idea, bill, or concept involving democrats.
