Earlier this week, Pope Benedict XVI called on the United States to do “everything possible to fight…all forms of violence so that immigrants may lead dignified lives.” Today, Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO) blasted the pope’s pro-immigrant position:
I would like to know what part of our lax immigration policy is considered violent. I fail to see how accepting more refugees than any other nation — and providing free health care, education, housing and social service benefits to millions of illegal aliens is in any way “violent” or “degrading.”
Tancredo “was raised Catholic but left the church.” Yesterday, as the pope arrived in the United States to meet with President Bush, the Bush administration carried out massive immigration raids in five states.
Shorter Tommy Tancredo: “Look! Over there! Scary brown people!”
April 17th, 2008 at 7:32 pmthe catholic establishment, as usual, will keep thier mouth shut..why…becaus the sanctity of thier precious embryos is more important than real children being killed, starved, and deprived of medicine…
are they really so worried about the dignity of human life, or are they simply trying to keep thier power structure intact by trying to keep women under control by controlling thier sexuality and keeping them barefoot and pregnant.
im with sinead o’ connor on this one..
April 17th, 2008 at 7:32 pmSomeone should tape Tancredo when he goes to Evanjingoland:
“Hack! Snort! Furriners! National Security Castrations!”
April 17th, 2008 at 7:40 pmCatholics love children, until they are born. After that, let the priests take care of them. My diocese in San Diego went bankrupt rather than pay out the awards granted by the courts. That was a great way to avoid accontability. No wonder the Popester and W like each other. “Who could have anticipated…..”.
April 17th, 2008 at 7:41 pmWe are a nation of immigrants, but it seems that people forget their immigrant roots very easily and resent the next wave , blaming them for evrynill of the society they have helped to shape. Watch the old Bogart film, “The Black Legion“!
April 17th, 2008 at 7:54 pmDid Tom take a break from building his fence?
April 17th, 2008 at 7:59 pmTommy’s a washed-up, one-trick pony. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
April 17th, 2008 at 8:02 pmTwo-Bit Tommy must have had too much hooch the night before or his IQ has actually fallen BELOW ZERO…Same result…
April 17th, 2008 at 8:03 pmThe fence that everyone climbs over, under and around? YES!
Tom doesn’t think the Pope is tough enough. But goats’ blood in a pentagram with some screaming illegal immigrant 13 year old virgins on the alter on the half moon is just nifty for him. And that’s on nights when the hooded suicide bomber from the mall isn’t terrorizing the girls in the cages.
April 17th, 2008 at 8:07 pmSome of us draw a distinction between legal and illegal immigration. You should too.

And something makes me think you hate them both, all those scary brown people?
April 17th, 2008 at 8:22 pmEver notice that the people who are so concerned about the legal status of the people who pick our lettuce and tomatoes are not at all concerned about the lawbreaking of the Executive branch of the U.S. government?
April 17th, 2008 at 8:33 pmOh, I forgot, IOIYAR.
What a clown.
April 17th, 2008 at 9:42 pmCome on now, Benito and Adolph, you can get along, shake hands now, okay? You can divide Europe and kill all the jews together. We got the church and we got switzerland, how can we lose?
April 17th, 2008 at 10:21 pmGlad that lunatic is out as the Presidential candidate. Tancrazy still has the lovefest hate for immigration.
April 17th, 2008 at 10:49 pmBelieve it or not Tom, they ARE people too. Don’t let your fear toward people who want a better life and are willing to die to come to this country scare you. Keep building that fence. What a jackass.
April 17th, 2008 at 11:31 pmWho’s gonna mow your lawn, bus your dishes, cook and assemble your fatburger, moron?
April 17th, 2008 at 11:57 pmIn your face is the Bush style on issue after issue. Why would anybody expect anything different just because it is the Pope that Bush is showing off his in your face style. Perhaps this is payback for the Pope saying the Iraq War is not morally justified. We all know how petty Bush can be.
April 18th, 2008 at 12:24 amI like it when dunderheads like this keep exposing themselves for what they are. It’s easier to keep an eye on them that way.
April 18th, 2008 at 12:37 amBlue State Bob:
Try to stay reasonable. In my case, were I to hate both, I would hate my wife, my son’s wife, and my best friend’s wife, as examples closes to me, and I would hate all those fellow soldiers who have foreign born spouses that came to the US legally, and the several co-workers that I have had in my business life. Now let me really set you off: I believe in assimilation of immigrants.
I also believe in a reasonable solution to illegal immigrants, one that might offer legal status.
Why do you and your types always think it is a racial thing to stand for legal immigration?
April 18th, 2008 at 6:47 amI would like to know what part of our lax immigration policy is considered violent. I fail to see how accepting more refugees than any other nation — and providing free health care, education, housing and social service benefits to millions of illegal aliens is in any way “violent” or “degrading.”
First, I doubt the USA accepts more refugees than the UE. If you want to compare, compare countries or associations of countries of the same size.
Second, free health care, education, housing and social service benefits to millions of illegal aliens? As if they’re not working miserable jobs under regular wage to provide you with cheap products. You’re as freeloader as them, far more than them, I fear.
April 18th, 2008 at 7:18 amEvil Spaniard: We meet again to battle the windmills of immigration, will you be my Sancho Panza?
And by “accepts” what do you mean? Like Spain “accepts” the Romanian? Or Germany the Turks? Three generations there have been born, without citizenship. Albanians in Italy? Morrocans in Spain, again? Algerians in France?
Better example would be the Serbs and muslim in Sweden, as I hear, not that I have been there.
I might add that the Mexicans have not rioted in America, as the muslims/Algerians have in France. They might have low paying jobs, but they have jobs.
My opinion: Keep immigration controlled and legal for all regardless of country. Countries have the obligation to their citizens to do that. They also have the right to expect that the new comer will make a best effort to acculturate and learn the new language.
April 18th, 2008 at 11:27 amI cannot fathom the ignorance of those who absolutely refuse to admit that illegal aliens are committing a crime. Why should they be rewarded for this? They are a drain on our resources, and allowing them to stay is a direct slap in the face to every citizen who went through the process legally.
April 18th, 2008 at 12:15 pmMy ancestors came over here legally, and I cannot imagine doing it any other way.
The bleeding hearts are ignorant to the negative impact the illegals have on the society. I guess the newly-retired peopeI refuse to fall into the warped mind-set that to be prosperous and law-abiding is a fatal flaw. I have no guilt for what I have worked for, and I have no sympathy for the weenies who do have guilt.
Illegal immigration is destroying this country, and the golden goose can only give so much before it dies. Thank you Tom Tancredo. The USA embraces those who choose to come here legally. No disrespect to his holiness, but Pope Benedict should have added the word “illegal” to his sentence.
Let me correct my post. The newly-retired people who have found that their ss# has been used by another (thus putting a glitch in their plans for retirement) don’t even make the headlines. That is no surprise to me.

Better check those statistics again, “moron”. That is a stereotype that the media uses to make you feel sorry for them. They aren’t just doing those menial jobs anymore. They are also in high-paying jobs where they probably make more than you do.
April 18th, 2008 at 12:32 pmHow much do you think they were earning at Pilgrim’s Pride? Did you hear that the company itself asked for the ICE sweep?

So you want to be the madman fighting aganinst windmills? Fine. I’ll keep the role of the commoner with the common sense.
By using “accept” I was using the same term the original poster I cite was using. Curiously, he has been banned since.
But we also can consider “accept” as “full legalization”. Here, have an official link (in Spanish, but with easily understandable statistics and graphs) of the last massive regulation done in Spain in 2005 (there also some stats from other countries). You can see easily that the rate of migrants fully legalized is far higher than the one of the USA, who preffers having a great bag of illegal people all around, trying to not aknowledge the reality.
April 18th, 2008 at 12:53 pmThere are aproximately six billion people on the planet. At least three billion live in proverty and in third world countries. I don’t understand why we can’t seek them out and bring them to the U. S. so they can take advantage of our schools, hospitals and welfare programs. I think it is racist of us to limit our compassion only to our friends South of the border. Surely, we can handle three billion more desperate people.

How about you come to California where the illegal immigrant is the backbone of the menial labor industry. They do the jobs slothful Caucasians, African Americans and Asians won’t touch for over $10 an hour with pay for overtime. Plus if you need work done around the house or cheap day laborers, you can always drive around at 7 a.m. and find a group ready and willing to work…able bodies to select from.
And if you’re looking for a parallel, it’s not that much different than people being out of work during the Great Depression. But these “illegals” will work hard and wear themselves to the bone because of the hours they’ll work. I have worked with one in the past and Armando was a better worker than I because he worked faster, harder and tried his damndest to work through the language barrier in-front of him. He was a guy with a great deal of passion and when the store manager watched over our crew via security camera and told our crew boss over the phone that he needed to move faster, he did what I should have done…he walked out and ditched the place for singling him out for the last time.
These people have pride and the anecdote above illustrates that we do treat them at a sub-human level and that the Pope is right. And if any of you truly know how your ancestors came over here “legally”, you’d truly shut it on the stuff like that these Hispanics cause a “drain” on the system. If you don’t think this wasn’t the same in the 19th Century, open a history book!
